I would sell my soul to the devil for Derrick Green to go all Tim Biakabutuka in this game
What's all this lying around ____??
There's no getting past a bad OL. Even with good play calling. Convince me somehow that the OL on those teams was as bad as the OL on this 2013 team, and then I might buy some of what you are selling.
I don't disagree with you, was just trying to live in fairy tale land for a moment where Green might have a day like that stats wise. That's a world I want to live in.
Starting OL in 1995 was Runyan, Adami, Payne, Marinaro and Jansen. Watching the clips of Biakabatuka again you see how many runs he had where a defender didn't touch him until 7-8-10 yards downfield.
Dude, running the ball is not going to be a big part of their gameplan at all. They are going to use the MSU gameplan and try to carve up that 81st ranked pass defense (yes, I know the stats are skewed because so many teams play from behind).
LOL Wut? Our OL problems do not start and stop on run plays. If you hadn't noticed, they also tend to not offer any pass protection (along with whoever else is blocking). Just ask Devin, unless he is busy cleaning turf and grass out of his teeth.
Not me! I'm not taking this!
Miller! He's a dead man!
Thanks - made me truly laugh out load
But the Germans didn't bomb Pearl Harbor!
I do think I am on this site too much. I actually had a dream I was watching the game last night. And to show I'm not pretending it is a premonition, right before the game, they announced the guest coach for UM and Gary Moeller came strolling out.
Thank god for the NFL tomorrow otherwise I don't think I could make it til Saturday. Despite the doom and gloom, I am really excited about the game. Go ahead and make fun, but I cant wait for it to come. Both my parents are from the Toledo area, and the trash talk has flowed aplenty, I'm not scared! Stupid maybe, but not scared!!
Go Blue!!! Shut the smug, arrogant buckeyes up, and send Urban home complaining of chest pains!
Seriously, maybe we need a poll. Just how many people are there out there who haven't seen Animal House and/or somehow have managed to go through life never hearing anything quoted from it?
The number must be much larger than I would have thought based on the many times someone "corrects" the Germans/Pearl Harbor thing.
I was dreaming about The Game too. I only got through the first quarter before I woke up, but we were up 14-0 on two short field TDs. Might as well stop when you're happy, I guess.
Now this is a HYPE post, well done.
The hell it will.
It would greatly surpass that '69 upset. By the OSU game in 1969, Michigan was on a roll and playing at a fever pitch emotionally and physically, and beat the shit out of their final four opponents before the OSU game.
This team barely beat Akron and UConn and has continued to step on its dick during the entire season, so the magnitude of upsetting OSU is gigantically larger than any of our victories over OSU over the last 40 years.
Exactly. That '69 team was ranked 12th, and had just won their last 4 games with a combined score of 178-22. Their closest game was 35-7.
If we manage to beat OSU Saturday, I'll say it, it will be the biggest upset in this rivalry
Yep. This would be the biggest upset in Michigan history by a long shot. Heck, if we keep this within 14 points we should fete our team.
That Michigan has won, of course.
MN, WI, IA and IL were very weak teams. It did not take much for a team like MIchigan to whip them. They did it in '68 as well but got blown out by OSU. The '69 OSU team was much better than the '68 OSU team.
OSU is no juggernaut! They really haven't played a good team yet and probably will not until their bowl game. Michigan is not a good team yet but an upset is not impossible. I don't think it would be as historic as the '69 upset.
I'm still thinking a OSU 38, UM 13 will be the most likely outcome.
The problem is, after this week they still won't have played a good team. OSU is definitely beatable, just not by us. Top to bottom from a personnel standpoint they're a slightly better team but the coaching isn't anywhere close. It's going to get ugly on Saturday, really really ugly.
....if we could allow Urban Meyer the opportunity to leave Ann Arbor saying, "I hate those guys..."
Football is sensuous.
Where are they ? Is someone waiting until Friday, or is it pointless? My money is on pointless.
Frustration = Expectation / Reality
Sane: f = e/R
Insane: F = E/r
I can tell you that no I can't remember any of these happening. Born in 1991 so was pretty young.
I would create thousands of John Cooper faces on a stick to hand out at the game Saturday. He may no longer be OSU's coach, but just his physical likeness being present is bound to make Bucknut fans uneasy and provide Wolverine fans with some comfortable karma.
I guarantee they would not care. Why? Because the last time Cooper coached was in 2000 and since 2001, the buckeyes have completely owned Michigan. They also won't care because they know their team will win on Saturday and their future is incredibly bright with one of the best coaches in the country and excellent recruiting. Our recruiting is excellent, but Hoke's long-term future as the head coach of Michigan is still in question. I'm fine with giving him at least two more years, but if he keeps under achieving with the talent they're recruiting, then clearly he will need to be replaced.
...with 28 yards of total offense and no first downs.
...in the 'shoe in '96, and I am far less confident about this one.
Bottom line is we're going to have to play nearly mistake-free for the first time all year, not only with respect to penalties and TOs (which we've largely corralled--knock on wood), but especially with respect to MAs. We simply cannot miss assignments on Saturday. If we can play completely out of character, we have a chance b/c we're on their talent level.
Michigan was coming off a solid win streak and had improved over the course of the season. It was nearly the exact opposite situation of this year.
A better comparison would be the Capital One Bowl against Florida (Lloyd Carr's last game). All year, Michigan's offense had underperformed due to DeBord, injuries to Henne, and an inconsistent offensive line (mostly the interior). Against a Florida team with a powerful spread offense quarterbacked by Heisman winner Tim Tebow and coached by some guy named Urban Meyer, Michigan finally opened up the playbook, riding the prodigious talents of Henne, Manningham, Arrington, and Hart to an offensive explosion. The defense struggled to get off the field (and had a tough time containing Percy Harvin), but for the most part contained Tim Tebow (averaged less than 4 yards per carry, threw for under 200 yards).
Could the same thing happen this year? Is Al Borges ripe for a Debordian epiphany? I doubt it. Michigan had 4 weeks to prepare for the bowl. This allowed them co completely revamp their game plan and just as importantly provided valuable time for Henne and Hart to get healthy (Devin Gardner will still be banged up on Saturday). There is no Percy Harvin on Ohio State, but Braxton Miller is more elusive than Tebow was and they also have Carlos Hyde (Florida was notorious for never having good running backs under Urban Meyer).
But if an upset is going to happen, it will look more like that game then 1969.
Borges can call a great game. He doesn't seem to make adjustments well, but when things go right for him, the offense can consistently move the ball for an entire game.
What makes me pessimistic about this game is how gutted this team seems. The offensive line was still swapping guys out last week, Devin seems to be more beat up and in a bad mental state than ever, and the defense looks to be getting creakier every week now.
This season hasn't just been a struggle, it has been a grind.
And the hits just keep on coming, our backup plan to Hand just committed to Notre Dame. I just want this season to be over.
Seriously guys, the 3-9 season was easier to be a Michigan fan during. This is just a total collapse of the program.
Man up, ball up and get ready for the biggest rivalry in college football. I swear some of you are going to be in the fetal position all morning becuase you are pussies.
You get an A for effort, anyway.
