Whatever happened to this big house tradition...

Submitted by Trimalico on
So I was lying in bed last night and a Rocky and Bulwinkle commercial came on. This reminded me of a time when the U of M band used to play the theme song. Whatever happened to this? Apparently its been replaced with stadium RAWK.

That damn little dog did his thing in the first UM game I attended as a raw freshman in '71. It was hilarious. I think the crowd would go nuts if a new Whiskey was brought in. Especially if he/she took a dump on the visitor's sideline.

Rocky and Bullwinkle was largely killed by the previous band director, simply because he didn't like it. The full band hadn't played it in a long time, as I recall, as it had been relegated to a Fanfare Band song (the subset of the band made up of the top chairs from every section, they do smaller paid gigs and play around the Stadium in the 3rd quarter), and was usually only performed at Band-O-Rama or Crisler Concert during the Fanfare Band portion of the concert. The Stadium bands haven't played it for a long, long time. Hopefully it comes back. It's a fan favorite, and could be a nice way to combat the canned music.

I'm liking the RAWK a lot, but I still love the band. Especially, I love when the band breaks up and puts small groups throughout the stadium gates and wonders into each section. That can't be replaced.
