Whatever Became of Isaiah Bell?

Submitted by Robbie Moore on

Given the poor play and limited depth of our linebacking corps why aren't we hearing anything about Bell?

I've wondered about Hawthorne, too.  Bell is a RS freshman, so I'm not too worried that he hasn't seen meaningful action yet (even with the crappy LB play).  I can't remember how much eligibility Hawthorne has remaining.

To all of you MGoBlog elderly, has there ever been a post correcting a previous post that was correcting a previous post that was correcting a previous post (three times removed)?  I'm looking to start an MGoRecordbook . . .

P.S.  jtmc33 - The Class of '97 rocked.  We got to see some of the greatest players in Michigan football history!  Woodson, Wheatley, Biakabatuka, Brady, Griese, Toomer, etc.

he probably sucks. but on a side note, fan expectations of our young players are out of control. it was only a few years ago that we expected the main contributors on our team to almost certainly be 5th years, true seniors and juniors because, well, they were the only contributors but now we cling onto the freshmen and sophomores to perform wonders immediately (hello rivals/scout).

Just speculation, but methinks that a significant portion of this weight is Gittleson-whole-pizza-at-2AM weight as opposed to Barwis-wolf-man-death-machine weight.  I mean, sometimes players who haven't yet gone through a real strength program can experience outrageous gains once they actually do, but i mean come on... 205 to 245 after two summers?  That sounds crazy to me.  Even if that weight is legit, he is still a RSF and I think you're grasping for straws wondering why he isn't playing.  He probably just isn't good enough yet.

I think we should just blitz the house 1 out of every three plays. Get crazy. Try something to get them playing downhill, instead of just letting the other team dictate what is going on. We can't cover anyone and we can't stop the run. It seems like they should just either blitz like hell, or play a 4-3 cover 2 man and run up and make tackles. This 3-3-5 crap is giving me a headache...

Bell bulked up very quickly.  He was moving from FS (in high school) to MIKE (in a 4-3 defense) to MIKE (in a 3-3-5 defense).  He's only a redshirt freshman, and the guys ahead of him are a redshirt junior, a redshirt sophomore, and a true junior.  Nothing happened to him.  He's just not good enough to play yet.

One of these guys (Bell, Demens, etc) has got to be more aggressive in attacking the rush/blockers than Ezeh right??  Most of the time Ezeh just stands there until he is being blocked.  If nobody can beat out Ezeh right now, our future at this position is not lookin so hot unless a freshman or recruit (Ryan, Jones) is gonna be a beast.
