What is Your Favorite Michigan Bowl Game?

All of us here have seen some pretty spectacular bowl games that Michigan has played in and either won or come close only to fall by just a few. For me I have seen (in my teen years) the Wolverines play in quite a few Rose Bowls sadly to fall to both USC and Texas in 2005 which in my opinion is one of the greatest Rose Bowl games I've ever seen despite the loss. I was only 8 in 1997 but so my memories of the Rose Bowl game between Michigan and Wash St is still embeded in my brain and always will be. I consider that game to be part of my childhood but for me the greatest bowl win in my memory was the 2000 Orange Bowl vs Alabama. I was only 11 years old at the time but I remembered watching that game with my dad and how close it was at the end. Tom Brady blew us away in that game and seeing Anthony Thomas in his final game was also special. I loved the A Train. My first Michigan jersey was a blue #32. Beating OSU then going on to win against Bama. I went nuts when they missed the PTA as Michigan won in OT. One of the greatest games in Michigan history and my favorite bowl game.

The 2003 Outback Bowl, 2005 Rose Bowl and 2008 Capital One Bowl and of course the 2012 Sugar Bowl are in my top 5.

We hate Michigan State. We don't like Penn State too. We don't care for Minnesota, Wisconsin or Notre Dame but we all hate O-S-U.

that is the game I had on my mind immediately after reading your thread title. Others I would consider would include the 93 & 98 Rose Bowls.

The Browns drafted a QB in the 6th round in 2000. I was hoping it would be Tom Brady, but they opted for Spergeon Wynn instead. Probably better for Tom in the long run. But I often wonder if maybe he would have been able to make the Browns respectable.

here on some post or another long ago that Bo claimed he heard the officials gloating about throwing the game (on purpose). Disturbing they can get away with it if true.

The 2008 Capital One Bowl has to be my favorite recent one.  Just with the circumstances surronding Lloyd and the three seniors and how they were 0-3 against Ohio and in bowl games.  Not to mention that nobody gave us a chance in that game.

And I am pretty sure that when people say 1997 Rose Bowl, they mean the 1998 Rose Bowl...

1) January 1st,1998 - Rose Bowl win over Washington State - awesome cap to an awesome season and a great excuse to be late to the first day of Winter Semester that January.

2) January 1st, 2000 - Orange Bowl win over Alabama. Coming back  from 14 down twice, as I recall, with Tom Brady leading the way. Great, great comeback win.

3) January 3rd, 2012 - Sugar Bowl win over Virginia Tech - did not end up going (I was at the first two that I listed), but it was a great end to Hoke's first season and I still managed to function the next day at work.

For me, it's the 2012 Sugar Bowl.  Yes, it has as much to do with New Orleans, and all that entailed.  But it also has to do with it being such a surprise that Michigan had a solid season in 2011, and seeming so far-fetched afer a just horrible '08, a disappointing '09, and a mediocre '10 that ended in the most humiliating Michigan game ever.  I felt a lot of that weight lifted just by getting to the Sugar Bowl.  There were more thrilling bowl games, and more meaningful ones (I was at the '98 Rose Bowl and rushed the field afterward), but the Sugar Bowl is my favorite.

Has to be the 2012 Sugar Bowl, as it's the only Michigan bowl game I've attended, and I took my oldest son. My older brother lives in New Orleans and he treated us to some excellent food.

Other favorites -

1981 Rose Bowl. Bo finally broke through with a victory.

1986 Fiesta Bowl. Beat Nebraska.

1998 Rose Bowl. National Championship.

Least favorite was the 1979 Rose Bowl where we got hosed big-time on Charles White's phantom touchdown.

1.) 1981 -- Bo's first Rose Bowl win, and M's first since 1965. thank God almighty, free at at last.

2.) 1986 Fiesta -- the championship game that should have happened in 1997/8.

I would add the 1988 Hall-of-Fame Bowl win over Alabama because, although both teams were not the most successful that year, it was M's first encounter with Bama and it ended with a win to offset the loss to Auburn in the 1984 Sugar Bowl.

And of course, the '08 Cap One Bowl. Revenge for Meyer's victory in the whine wars of '06, and a satisfactory matchup with the Heismann Trophy winner.

Michigan was hosed more than once in the Rose Bowl. On balance, I would have been happier with no Rose Bowl. I never understood the B10's strange marriage with the Pac8, which was a very unhappy one for us from 1970-92.

1) For me, the 1/1/98 Rose Bowl has to be the standard.

2) Beating #5 USC in the 1/1/89 Rose Bowl has to be right up there. A great Bo team, lost to the #1 and #2 teams that year by less than 5 points total, and we were ranked #11 going into the game. That team was so close to a national championship season, they certainly had the talent.

3) 1/1/2000 Orange Bowl. That game was unbelievably epic despite the strange ending.

4) 1/1/2008 Capital One Bowl. At the time we desperately needed that win after the way that season started, as a good end to LC's career, and to shut up the SEC homers again.
