What Would Your Out Of Conference Schedule Be?

Submitted by Enjoy Life on

Lots of e-pinions about the wisdom of scheduling that game. Some erroneous conclusions that anyone that thought this game was a mistake also only wanted to schedule baby seals. That simply is not true. One major problem for this caliber of opponent is that it was the first game.

So,  IF THERE WERE NO (REPEAT NO) FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS what would be your OOC (Out of Conference) Schedule that would be preferred for Michigan?

B = Baby Seal = Non FBS Opponent

C = Cupcake = MAC Opponent, etc.

M = Major Opponent = Traditionally Strong FBS Opponent

Just list the number and the order they should be played in. If you want fewer OOC games and more conference games that will be obvious by the number listed.

Here is mine:

1. C

2. C

3. M

let's just do it in November!  Let's see how they handle some cold or sleet or rain.

Actually, we should always open with a tomato can, then a MAC school, then ND once in a while and years we don't play ND, play an elite, just when they come here let's move it to a time when it gives us an advantage.

How 'bout we play ND every other year and when we don't we play an elite in one OOC game?  UNtil we have great recruiting classeses as Juniors and seniors I'd leave the Bamas and LSUs off the schedule.  We get nothing good out of what happened last night. (nationally speaking)  We knew the measuring stick was a lot taller then we are before the game.

I'd like to see all the non-BCS schools dropped out of division 1, and see all scheduling restricted to division 1 only.  Then I'd like to see us play a top team, and three middling to bottom-dwelling teams.  I'd much rather see us play the Arizonas, Vanderbilts, and Dukes of the world then to watch us play UMASS and directional schools.

My non-conference schedule would be just what it had been for most of the last twenty years: 3 tomato cans and one "tough" game like ND.  It wasn't "broken," but somebody with a massive ego decided to leave his mark by "fixing it."

So, the end result is a second-year staff, trying to install the WCO without a WCO QB, having to play an NFL farm team and a rivalry game against Notre Dame while other teams are playing directional teams.

Do not mistake my comments about the WCO.  I prefer the spread, but David Brandon wanted Brady Hoke and he wanted to get away from the spread.   It certainly isn't the fault of Hoke or Borges that they are doing exactly what they were hired to do, and they deserve any Michigan fan's full support.

Also, as much as I would like a hybrid, it makes no sense for Borges to do anything but install his own offense.  I'll use the same argument I did for RR: you are going to lose some games somewhere, so you might as well just install your own system and let the chips fall where they may.  It sucked this weekend, but the Wolverines can still have a great year, and the real benefits will kick in during year four or five.

At least we know that Brady Hoke will get a year four and a year five.
