What Will It Take For You To Get Back On Board?

Submitted by Darker Blue on

Serious question. If Michigan wins out, would you be okay with Brady Hoke coming back next year. I mean Beilein says he's behind Hoke, and believes in Hoke, how the hell can you argue with Beilein?

I think this team is improving, even though the defense took a step back this past weekend.

So after rereading this, this is a poorly worded OP but I'm too lazy to change it. I'll neg myself and move on. Hopefully you understand what I was trying to say.

I want DB gone no matter what.

I want Hoke gone, too, but if he somehow literally wins the rest of his games, I'll change my mind.  That would be an unbelievably good coaching job, considering the levels of discontent and turmoil right now and the two tough rivalry road games ahead.  That's almost certainly not going to happen, so it's not really relevant, but there's still a scenario in which I'd like to see him return.  I'm done with DB.

if Hoke wins out, he keeps his job, that would mean overcoming all this crap and pulling his team together...I would get back on board.   Thats what propells coaches to that next level.  Obviously probably not happening.

I think Hoke has had plenty of chances to show us he is a good coach and its just not there.  We all agree he is a good guy, and everyone likes his personality but that aint getting it done.

Didn't we just pose this question yesterday? Are we as a board showing propensity to change our minds on a day-to-day basis? I think we need McGary on the sideline holding up "win the game" signs. It was enough for the bball team, right?

Blow out MSU and OSU each by 30.

Fire Funk

Fire Fred Jackson

Firm handshake to Greg Mattison

Move Montgomery to recruiting coord role

Hire an actual special teams coord

Have an asst coach trained on "game theory" type stuff Hoke is just not smart enough to learn

Man Darker Blue I dont know if this is a Feelingspost, a What If post or a blend of the two.  It sorta straddles both lines and is awfully similar to the "What if we win out" thread just down a few slots.

I just know this is NOT going to happen so why we are spending 30 seconds wondering about it amazes me.  Better to "wonder" what if Bo came back to life and brought with him the fountain of youth and two years of bonus NCAA elegibilty.  Would you rather he gave the extra years and youth to Ricky Leach or Tom Brady and who would his Offense Coordinator be?

I am not sure you understand the concept of "serious question." I think you need to seriously question your grip on reality.

The fact that people keep raising these "serious questions" is further evidence that fandom is a religion, not a rational endeavor.

If Brandon apologizes for being an egotistical asshole and actually commits to changing his behavior. Hoke takes more blame for the Shane situation by way of public apology to Shane and his family, and donates a good chunk of change to a head trauma/concussion resarch institution. And then we win out.

Then I will forgive.

sorry.  It's just not happening for me anymore.  The wins it would take to salvage the season (kind of) are a pipe dream, so it's over AFAIC.

It will take bringing in a coach who doesn't act smug and shit all over the fans.

Seriously.  We're all depressed.  Hoke is tanking the program.  Would it kill him to give us a sliver of hope?  "Jabrill is hurt a little bit, but he's on board and will be back in a few weeks" would even go a long way.

If Michigan does what K State did last year and finished 7-5 after a 2-4 start, you could build a case to retain Hoke under a new AD and with some staff changes.

Nightmare scenario. Almost rather miss a bowl than go to the Pinstripe bowl. In this case if you're going to suck, it's best to really suck.

VintageBlue

October 7th, 2014 at 12:02 PM ^

The nightmare scenario only happens if Brandon stays on.  You would think that even if 7-5 happens a new AD would at least pick up the phone to inquire about one of the home run hires.

Fortunately (and unfortunately) there's little chance we'll have to worry about the 7-5 part.

RichRod era all i wanted to see was progress and as long as there was that i was fine with him getting another year/chance, but then the PSU game in 2010 happened... after a bye week the D looked no different and we let a walkon QB shread us... at that point I officially done with him and a change needed to happen...

if hoke and co. can show that this team is making progress and getting better all around and somehow pulls out a winning seasn i might be able to get back on board... but if they continue to lose to bad teams he has to go...

Simply I will support the team. As much it pains me I thought Rich deserved 5 years. As much as I wouldn't mind Brady being shown the door, I feel he deserves 5 years. Bo once said you do not know what kind of coach you have till they have been given 5 years. Sorry if that's not word for word but I don't have time to search for the exact quote.

I think I've seen too many problems and too little progress to be supportive of Hoke as head coach anymore.

At this point there's really nothing he can do.

Yet, somewhere, deep in the unimaginative bowels of the posters here, another way to ask this question? We already have two of them on the front page. Let's fill the entire message board with this question!!

Some suggestions:

HOW can Michigan possibly win out?

HOW MANY wins will it take for Hoke to save his fat ass?

WHO would be the leader of the team if they win out?

If Hoke beats MSU and OSU, but loses the rest, does he stay?

If Hoke ONLY loses to MSU the rest of the way, does he stay?

If Hoke only BEATS OSU the rest of the way, does he stay?

If Hoke wins every OTHER game the rest of the way, does he stay?

If Hoke gets to 6-6, then wins the bowl game, DOES HE STAY?

If Hoke gets to 6-6, and beats both OSU and MSU, and then wins the bowl game, will you lick his butt?

IF Hoke gets to 8-4 then gets CLOBBERED in the bowl game, DOES HE STAY?

If Hoke wears a headset, does he stay?

You feel free to add some of your own!

Yeah, what a bunch of terrible fans around here for wanting a bad coach fired. They must really not be true fans because they expect better from their football program than a potential/likely winless record in the Big Ten.

You are such a better person and a better fan for supporting a crappy product no matter what. I just wish I was as great a fan as you, but I guess I actually have expectations from the teams I root for and don't want a terrible coach running my favorite football team.

Keep showing up, keep calling us all fair weather fans, but if you were really a true fan you would root for a team like Illinois or Purdue. Its really easy to be a fan of the winningest program in college football history but those Illinois and Purdue fans are way better fans than you for supporting a terrible program no matter what.

and after a competent AD is chosen, then a quality non MAC level Head coach with a solid track record is hired.  AND the S & C staff as well as position coaches all gone

Here are my conditions with generous estimates for percentages:

1) We win out. Put it at 1% probability. High, I know

2) Brady wears a headset and/or actually knows what the fuck is happening in the game. 5%

3) Brandon admits his flaws and embraces the student body (sounds gross) .001%

4) Solid recruiting class rounds out 40%

5) I still love Michigan and will support the program no matter what. 100%

That leaves a .00000002% chance.

Not bad!

Sign me up for Brady/Brandon 2015 woohoo!

Never. We have almost 3.5 years of information on which to make a decision. The first year was very good, although I think anyone looking at it objectively would say that the team got lucky on several occasions. Years two and three got worse, and this year is a downright disaster. When you look at every year, there is a consistent thread - Hoke does not have a handle on the job, demands dinosaur style of play, and the team gets progressively worse.

Everyone here thinks Hoke is a goner. With DB at the helm, I just have a deep-seeded fear that Hoke will still be the coach next year. If that happens, I don't know what I'll do.

Of course Beilein will say that. He won't publicly say he doesn't support any M coach.

While I want a new AD and coach, I never got off board. I will always watch M football.

With Brandon...nothing. Like he says, his personality is to the best of his ability, and he has to change that. Unfortunately, you can't just change that. He could literally drop ticket prices 30% and I'd still want him gone...he so wrongly personifies the worst stereotype of "Michigan arrogance", and has such disdain for any and all criticism that it makes me sick.

WIth Hoke? There's many mitigating factors, but at a bare minimum he has to make a bowl game (win that game) and win one of @MSU and @OSU, and then survive the objective evaluation from the new AD. And no more bad losses. So...he basically has to win out. Two losses, it's extremely difficult to see him not get fired...one more loss, and it's still leaning towards firing him but it depends on how the team looks in the other games and how bad of a loss it is. I'd give him about a 1% chance to remain as Michigan's head coach next year.

Perkis-Size Me

I genuinely believe Beilein is behind Hoke and supporting him, but even if he wasn't, do you think he'd ever dare say that to the media? His job is as secure as it gets right now; why would he do anything to jeopardize that.

For me to get back on board, only one thing has to happen. Its quite simple, but I know it won't happen.

Win out. Don't necessarily need a Big Ten title since that's largely out of his hands right now, but Hoke needs to win out. That means going on the road to MSU and OSU and winning both of them. I don't care if he loses and is competitive; if he loses, he's out. If we're blown out by MSU, consider giving Hoke his walking papers by Monday morning.

Time to start holding Hoke accountable to his own standards. He preaches nonstop about getting to a 43rd Big Ten title, and we're not even close to sniffing Indianapolis.

CompleteLunacy

October 7th, 2014 at 12:07 PM ^

There is at least a nonzero chance of getting to the Big Ten Championship. It would be necessary for PSU, OSU, and MSU to each have two losses....hypothetically, that would mean the winner of the MSU-OSU game would have to lose one more time against another opponent, as well as PSU losing once more. The latter seems like a good chance...the former seems much less likely. Of course, this is all predicated on a scenario in which Michigan wins out, which is the most unlikely of them all.

So...I guess I'm saying there's a chance.

I have and will always be on board with this team, and the university. However, I am NOT on board with Hoke or Brandon. There is a difference. Even if this team were to win out, win the B1G, and the bowl game, I think it would be despite Hoke, not because of him.

Mittelstadt

wears a head set and has a lifetime win loss record above 65 to 70%

Our kids deserve the leaders and best in both these jobs.

The winning will come when this is done.

Winning out wouldn't change my mind. Hokes teams have had so many blatant problems that its no longer opinion, it's a fact. He's not the coach we want him to be. Having an OK offensive showing against Rutgers has people here excited. That's how bad it is right now. Hoke winning out would be the biggest fluke in sports history. I would love to win out, but Hoke needs to go either way.

I'm on board with michigan football forever. I hope they win every game and in order to do that we need a new coaching staff. In order to get a coaching staff that will win we need a new athletic director. We can start by relieving the current AD of his position and take it from there.
