What Will It Take For You To Get Back On Board?

Submitted by Darker Blue on

Serious question. If Michigan wins out, would you be okay with Brady Hoke coming back next year. I mean Beilein says he's behind Hoke, and believes in Hoke, how the hell can you argue with Beilein?

I think this team is improving, even though the defense took a step back this past weekend.

So after rereading this, this is a poorly worded OP but I'm too lazy to change it. I'll neg myself and move on. Hopefully you understand what I was trying to say.

I just can't.  I have given him chance after chance and defended him when I knew I shouldn't.  He has made me look like an idiot to my friends too many times.

He has to go.

I like Hoke and supported him up until this year.  The fact that Michigan is full of talent leads one to believe that Hoke is not a great coach.  He needs to go the day after the Ohio State game.  There's no way we should have already lost to Utah, Minny, and Rutgers with our talent.

This staff has proven that they cannot win big games, road games, rivalry games, or manage the basics. Like, 11 men on the field, clock management, player development, player safety, in-game adjustmnents. Hell, players can't even find their own helmets. They didn't have Gardner ready when Denard got hurt at Nebraska. Running the same 2 point conversion against OSU last year after a time out. No, nothing but a change at this point will get me back onboard.

Not to pick a scab, but also running a much, much better 2-point conversion play against KSU (Smith rollout to run or throw a halfback pass) that didn't matter in the slightest, in context with the two-pointer they ran vs OSU.

You've gotta be fucking kidding. Beilein has to say positive things about Hoke. It doesn't mean he actually thinks it. If pigs fly, the Cubs win the World Series, the Browns win the Super Bowl and this team wins out that, even though they've proven they can't beat anyone in the Power 5. Sure give Hoke another year! You think this team is improving? Unbelievable. Hey the team is improving but last week the defense was putrid and we still don't look competent on special teams.

Did you expect Beilein not to support him? Hutch and Red also supported him. None of it helped us win against Rutgers. In the end, he's record on the field is what will get him fired. Remember those "red-letter games"? If we lose to MSU and OSU, he will be on a five game losing streak in those, with ZERO road wins in four years.

If we won out I'd be back on board, because we would be beating two great coaches and teams in MSU and OSU and that would mean Brady (improbably) coached at least as well as they did, which would give me confidence in him. As well as beating 4 other mediocre Big Ten teams which we are at this point.

The probability this happens though is somewhat akin to a comet hitting the earth tomorrow.

Hoke and Brandon pick up my bar tab for any drinking bout that falls within 7 days of a Michigan loss.

Also, they get me a job with an organization staffed entirely with Michigan fans, in a city resided in solely by Michigan fans.

The losses will barely even matter anymore!

If Hoke wins out it would mean we beat a top 10 MSU team and likely a top 15 OSU team.  If we did that he would deserve a chance at the bowl game.  Win the Bowl Game and I'd be "Back On Board".

It is fun to dream though.

if they won out - or even played tough and close against MSU and beat Ohio State - showing improvement for the remainder of the season until they appear to be a big boy by Ohio State, then maybe there is a reason to believe enough to get back on board (a bowl game win would help).

The players, and Mattison say we should believe. If they show it consistently against teams other than App State, Miami (NTM) and Rutgers - then maybe.

I still think Brandon needs to go, because of the disingenuous, contemptuous PR, the profit maximization, and we need someone who can objectively evaluate football performance in a contemporary context.

beating OSU is not going to be any huge feat this year, so that is not a major factor either way.

Beating MSU (sooo unlikely) would be some weird fluke that is not going be a good indicator of future performance, so basing a major decision on that would be a very bad idea as compared to looking at the whole body of work.

That would mean we beat PSU, MSU and OSU, go 6-2 in the Big Ten, possibly win the division, win the championship game.  Sure, I'll be back on board if that happens.  Now, is there anyone in his right mind who thinks there is any chance whatsoever of that actually happening?????

Do you mean onboard with Hoke specifically?  As a head coach, there's nothing that will ever give me any sort of faith in him.  I didn't like him when he stepped foot in the door and outside starting out with an incredible string of sheer dumb luck, he's done nothing to change my mind.  He's proven his serious incompetencies as the head coach of a major program and that it's not where he belongs.

The only way I'm ever going to be back on good terms with Hoke as a member of the football team is if he's willing to take a demotion to dline coach while someone who actually knows how to run a real program takes the reins.

We all understand how it feels to root for a team that is losing.  Sure, I felt sick at 1030 on this past saturday.  But it will likely not be the last game we lose this season.  At the end of the day, I don't care who the players/coach/AD are, I've grown up loving Michigan football and I will continue to love it.

If you are trying to figure out when the fair weather fans will jump back on the bandwagon, I suppose its simple: when we start winning again.

I think Brandon has proven too divisive and must go ASAP. I'm willing to give Hoke a chance to turn it around under competent leadership, but they need to fix the AD leadership now so that the turn around can begin this season. I think it'll be hard to justify giving Hoke another year under new leadership next year if we haven't seen signs of improvement with Brandon already gone towards the end of this season.

Brandon gone.  It's the only thing for me at this point.  I don't think the program can really be righted with Brandon as AD.  I don't trust him to make the best decisions for continued success into the future.

It would take Dave Brandon to be fired and Michigan to win the Big Ten this year.  That is the stated goal of the program.  Hard to do being 0-2 in conference play.  If not, well that's four years of failure which is not acceptable.  This is Michigan fer Godsakes!

I would have to believe that he is the very best person for the job and is capable of leading us to national prominence, Big Ten titles, and competing in the playoffs.  I have absolutely zero confidence that he is the person to do so, and short of a miracle, I cannot see anything that would make me change my mind.

For some reason I just keep singing this to myself...

"Hoke! huh yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, oh hoh, oh
Hoke! huh yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, say it again y'all
Hoke! huh good God
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, listen to me"
