What was our most complete game this year? O and D, 1st half and 2nd

Submitted by Yessir on

Which game did we play our most complete game on both sides of the ball?

Maryland, Purdue, Minni or Florida?  No game stands out for me.

Best is yet to come vs Wisky and Ohio?

And I don't really think it's close.  Doubled their yardage, controlled the clock and the score, easily their worst loss of the year.

The rest of the games all had their issues.

I think the Maryland game had significant contributions from offense, defense and special teams.  Peters had 2 TD passes, took some tough licks and didn't turn the ball over.  Backs ran hard.  OL seemed to block reasonably well (3Q exception).

Punting was solid.  Blocked a punt.  Only knock was missed FG.

Defense had 2 interceptions and multiple TFLs.  Only gave up 10 points.

Only negative were the injuries:  Higdon, L. Hill, Long, McCray and Gary.

and Minnesota was also pretty positive. I like the fact that we are still progressing in spite of youth and a quarterback development challenge, whether the Gophers and Terrapins are top flight opponents or not. The glass remains half full. Agree about the injuries - hope everyone recovers soon.

Because Michigan has not beaten a single team of any consequence, and none that are still ranked. And none of their past opponents whom they've defeated are above .500.

At this point Michigan's only win that can be even remotely categorized as "average" was vs. Minnesota which is a 5-5 team right now largely because Nebraska sucks and the Gophers had the most body-bagged non-conf. schedule in the conference. Gophers are still going to finish 5-7.

Michigan's offense is averaging an anemic 28 points per game.  Defense is giving up 16 pts per game.

Michigan's softness on offense all year has been the reason - sub-par QB depth and production, and an offensive line that cannot pass block to save it's life.

The only reason Michigan is 8-2 is their defense, which now is suffering injuries and likely depth issues.

Michigan's rushing performance took a huge dip this week against a horrible defense with 160 yards on 38 attempts for 4.2 YPC.

Versus Maryland Michigan offense averaged 5.4 yards per play - on par with performances against Purdue and Indiana.

This is not a team experienced and dominant enough to beat Wisconsin on the road and stout enough to stop Ohio State from scoring 40 pts or more.

Wow. Do you complain after sex also? We won 8 games and are nicely positioned to end the season. There has been a lot of growth from young guys this year. This team could have have up but didnt.

Only 25 FBS teams, including Michigan, have at least eight wins this season, but the combined record of the eight teams Michigan has beaten is 34-54, and Minnesota is the only one of Michigan’s opponents that is not below .500.

As a team, Michigan ranks first among Big Ten teams in only three categories: pass defense, opponents' first downs and opponents' third-down conversion percentage.  Chase Winovich (average sacks per game) and Khaleke Hudson (average tackles for loss per game) are the only Michigan players who lead the Big Ten is any statistical categories. LINK

If the All-Conference teams were chosen today, which Michigan players other than Higdon, Winovich, Mo Hurst, Devin Bush and possibly Hudson, Lavert Hill and Chris Evans would receive votes for any one of the three All-Big-Ten teams?

Granted, this Michigan team is young and relatively inexperienced, but for a team that's considered to have great talent and coaching, has there been any full game this season when Michigan has looked like a great team?

Every game had its phase where things got a bit uncomfortable and it's our offense that caused it.

Like nobody would have even given a crap about the couple good drives Maryland had today in the 2nd half if the offense had scored another TD to end the 1st half and then early in the 2nd. No-one cares if you win 42-0 or 42-10, but at 28-10 the other team smells the *possibility* of coming back so the game is 'live' when it really should be dead.

We haven't had an 'A' game from start to finish all year. All 8 wins have had periods of massive frustration. The Minnesota game would have been given an 'A' if Peters had any time whatsoever to set up a pass but he had a defender pressuring him immediately through the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. I was REALLY hoping the Rutgers, Minnesota and Maryland games would have allowed us to work on the passing game, get Peters more comfortable. It just hasn't happened.

No one thought that Iowa had a shot in hell of beating OSU and look what happened! It can be done, OSU is mortal!

Ohio State ismortal.

OK. How many times has that happened against Michigan this year or last year?

Exactly.

When they're not throwing INTs like that they are scoring 44 pts per game and giving up only 20. Compare that to Michigan's O avging 28 and giving up 16.

BTW OHio State is going to probably hang 70 on Illinois next week.

Ohio State players were eating up the press accolades and then got blasted by Ferentz in Kinnick.

There's a zero percent chance Ohio State doesn't come into Michigan game seething for the division title.
