What single player needs to come up big for Michigan Saturday?

Submitted by Trimalico on
Who needs to play well for Michigan to ensure a win Saturday? Obviously one of our 3 Quarterbacks. I feel Stevie Brown will need to play well in his new position. The more pressure we put on Hiller, the better.

I might be wrong here, but I don't think Stevie's new position has him rushing the QB much. Or are your sentences unrelated/separate thoughts and I'm reading them incorrectly?

Van Bergen. Martin and of course Graham will get a ton of attention from the o-line...if Van Bergen can beat whoever he is going against in a 1-on-1 match-up...takes all the pressure off the inexperienced secondary.

We need to have big days from the D-Line. If they can keep Hiller on his back and guessing as to what they are going to do then I have enough confidence in our offense to out-score them.

This should be pretty obvious - whoever is returning punts and kicks. I can't take another season of that. It will kill me.

Great call. I was saying to myself, "hmm..." while reading these other comments, and then I came to yours and said to myself, "bingo- he's got it." If they can hold onto the ball, and we can bust one big and consistently perform in the return game, it will make a very big difference and would likely put us in a position to win the game, assuming nothing more than competence from the other areas of the team.

We need to see that there really is a noticeable difference between this year and last. From what I've been able to garner, WMU is replacing much of their defense this year. We should be able to move the ball and score, as well as control the clock. One thing I'd like to see (and I know it may be too soon) is for UM to show that teams like WMU don't belong on the same football field as them.

what's with his ankle? can this guy ever catch a break? i know we have plenty of other options but i was thinking he was due for a break out year at the super-back position.

Running game! Minor or more likely Brown, or whoever who can stay injury free and pound the rock... Why?? - To ease the nerves of our QB(s) - Sustain drives to keep our D off the field so much - Force WMU's DB's to cheat up and open up the passing lanes for scores from the slot ninjas, and running TD's from our QB's (Forcier/Robinson) when they have the zone read and break free...

because a) it fits the question of what one guy b) as was mentioned above, the turnovers at this position killed us and there is too much to lose if things get screwed up at this position. From a unit standpoint it's a tie: The D-line, who has to get pressure on Hiller; and the secondary, who can't give up the big plays like they did last year.

In my opinion, Troy Woolfolk would be the guy. We have a young secondary and a new defense. The offense will work itself out - we have a good OL, a stable of running backs, and quarterbacks who are at least good enough to manage the game. But we need a guy at safety to eliminate big plays in the passing game.

If you had said "single guy" the clear answer to me is GERG Robinson. But since you said "player" i think you absolutely have to go with Forcier. I think the Defense is more important on Saturday, but no "one player" can dictate the success of the entire defense (unless that guy is named Woodson and wears #2).

Minor is the key. He can sustain drives for long periods of time and will help to take the pressure off of Tate (yes, I'm predicting Tate will start). If Minor is injured, then Carlos Brown will need to step up.

The reason I didn't say Forcier is that if he doesn't do well, there are viable options behind him who could still lead us to victory. They're obviously not AS good as he is or he wouldn't start (at least according to my projection). The reason Woolfolk needs to do well is that there really isn't any depth at safety. If he sucks . . . he's still got the job. So he has to be good.
