What is the over/under on cheap shots at the QB this week.

I really don't put this past Dantonio and Sparty. If Tate plays I am positive there are going to roughing the passer calls early on. My guess is on 3 in the first quarter.

I noticed them taking some spearing shots at Tate that he managed to duck under on a few plays. I don't know if it's me, but I never really noticed it (the spearing/headshot tackle attempts) before this year, and this year I've seen it in every game.

I was going to say five, you sort of beat me to it. I think five is the over-under number on "cheap shots" on the Michigan QB. And since Michigan's Second (I refuse to call him Number Two, or second-string) QB is Denard, I am taking the Over on "Cheap Shots on Michigan QB's" this weekend. Even if Tate does not play, the QB cheap shots will abound during Sparty week. Ask Dennis Franklin. Ask Rick Leach. Ask John Wangler.

I would never think a coach would condone something like this. But Dantonio keeps doing stuff that I would never think a coach would do. Off the top of my head - 1 - Engages in verbal spit-spat w/ opposing player and ridicules player's height. 2 - Calls for a moment of silence after another team loses. 3 - Roots for a result that would bar the team he coaches from winning the conference. 4 - Calls another team's record embarrassing. Maybe my memory is failing me here, but I think all this happened. So pathetic. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I could see a wink and a nod to his DL to lay some questionable late hits on Tate. If Tate is healthy, I definitely see us winning this game.

the play calling and over commit in the pass rush early and often. My fervent hope is that we can catch them with their proverbial pants down with some sweet screens and be up by a few TD's early so the Coner can roll in and lay the verbal smack down on em while all the important guys can be on the sidelines pointing and laughing at the crowd.

None. Stupid thread. I don't know how you could expect Dantonio to go out and tell his guys to do this, nor do I think they'd go out and do it on their own. Come on. Now, over/under on generally stupid penalties when their team can't afford stupid penalties? Then you'd have a point. That's a Sparty calling card, and has been for years. You can bank on a pass interference, offsides, illegal shift, hold, etc. down the stretch if this game is close.

...dirty team. I expect as many cheap shots as they can get in before the refs start kicking them out of the game. Dantonio is a disciple of Tressel, who had to cheap-shot Miami's starting QB and TB to win their NC game. Dantonio is preaching hatred to his team, and those who preach hatred are usually great at rationalizing why criminal behavior is appropriate against the "enemy." Since he already does have a documented violent criminal on his team, I can't imagine him resisting the temptation to take as many cheap shots as they can physically take. I am guessing they take cheap shots at the end of every play. Give me FORTY on that over/under, of which less than five will be whistled by the refs.

It is certainly true that mobile quarterbacks get hit more, but they also rarely get hit squarely. As long as we keep the pocket moving and utilize roll outs that should minimize the opportunities for big hits even if late. Unless of course they are 3-4 seconds late...which I hope noone on either team is ignorant enough to do.

Several years ago I was on a kick to read books about Michigan's football past. I learned many cool things. A major section in a lot of old books was that for many years in the 1930s and 40s MSU (MAC as it was known then) was the last or second to the last team played each year because their main goal was to cripple Michigan players and Michigan got sick of it. If they couldn't beat Michigan they would make sure someone else could.
