What Michigan related things are you not all that thankful for?

Submitted by willywill9 on

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I've noticed friends discussing/listing out things they're thankful for.  I consider myself to be a positive, often naive homer, and am thankful for many things.

However, that shouldn't stop us from being realistic.  Sometimes life as a Michigan fan can be tough.  As such, I wanted to start a thread in which we all can throw all of the things we're not all that thankful for.  (NOTE: Please keep it respectful to our Athletes, Coaches etc.  There's no need to throw anyone under the bus, this should be all in good fun.)

Mods, strike this if this is inappropriate, I just figured it'd be cathartic to list out crap that makes us a bunch of sad pandas.

  1. The official who blew the whistle prematurely on the Lynch goal, essentially costing Michigan the game against  Miami (YTM-Hockey) and consequently, ending the team's amazing run.

  2. Pam Ward (I'll spare you a photo)
  3. Pam Ward's leather jacket (See #2)
  4. Donovan Warren's decision to leave early :(
  5. Ohio State using The Game as publicity for their tacky throwback tendencies (Photo courtesy of user Dnak438)
  6. Troy Woolfolk's ankle injury
  7. I didn't attend a home game this year (I did attend the ND game...Yay!)
  8. The banning of the HE16MAN (and other tshirts on MGoBlog)
  9. MSU's Big Ten Football Schedule (Not playing OSU)
  10. Any Michigan fan who boo's.  We're better than that.

What are you not thankful for?

I realize that you write that you are a positive guy, but I don't see how a post like this won't eventually turn into something negative. The off-season is so long I prefer to spend my time during the season looking at things as opportunites for happy emotion rather than trying to figure out what makes me unhappy. Especially this week. Right now we have every chance to win this game as they do. Sunday that will not be the case.

So say that, instead of posting snide comments.

As for the timing, I figured it was ironic/satirical with it being Thanksgiving week.  Everyone on this board is thankful for 99.9% of anything Michigan has to offer, period, otherwise they wouldn't be on here.  The majority of the items on my list were mostly gag thoughts anyway.

I've always considered it a positive sign of how deeply invested I am in this institution, but really... I wish I could chill the eff out every now and then.

I don't know, Detroit has a pretty wicked passing game. Then again, they have  a pretty terrible rushing defense. You know what? That'd actually probably be a pretty exciting game. I take it back, I hope Michigan's bowl game is against the Lions while I'm back home for the holidays.

1. Michigan DB hating god. I know he is a false diety thus can curse him

2. Whatever repelant is causing good big men to not want to call Crisler Arena home.

3. The fact Red Berenson is not exempt from the aging process.

  • Michigan fan memes that won't die, no matter how much evidence you present to the contrary.
  • MGoBlog memes that create an inside baseball clubbishness that is difficult to penetrate.
  • The Michigan fan civil war
  • The asymmetrical nature of fan warfare between Michigan and Ohio State fans that means even when we try to win, we lose.

but I am not really thankful for the crowd yelling "You Suck" when our opponents are punting.  I think it's a little tacky when the games are close, but downright embarrassing when we are losing by double digits.

Funny though, when a goatender's mother calls Yost during a game, I have no problem with informing him what she said.

I guess that makes me thankful that I don't need to be consistent with what I find to be acceptable behavior.

Not being able to attend a game this year,  I live about 45 minutes south of Nashville,TN so it would be a heck of a drive.  I definitely want to come to a game next year.  Also not going to school in Ann Arbor.  I love the school so much I wish I could graduate from there like my father, but I have established my family down here.
