What is the "main thing" for a Michigan Football HC?
1. Is the characterization of Michigan accurate in your view?
2. Which coaches (other than the Harbaughs) do you think fit best?

Which characterization of Michigan are you referring to? The SB Nation article is a rehash of what we have been reading for months.
The main thing is to win, but win the "right way". No short cuts, no cutting corners, no cheating, recruit quality kids as well as quality athletes. Understand how special Michigan is as a school. Represent.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:06 AM ^
because it wouldn't have turned out as well. I'll just pos you and add a 'This'.
November 19th, 2014 at 12:54 PM ^
The "this" response is amazingly stupid.
November 19th, 2014 at 2:32 PM ^
The "main thing" for a Michigan HC is winning games legally.
Other considerations are lower priorities.
December 13th, 2014 at 10:18 AM ^
everything is important but the main thing is to win and win a lot.
At the end of the day, you must beat sparty. Dumbtonio needs to be fired ... and i think he's 3 years away from that when Jim H comes home. Sparty is going to take a big step back next year ... they lose almost everyone and they come to the Big House! We win that one by 3 TDs ... then everyone sees them for who they are ... 6-6, 5-7, and then 4-8 and Dumbtonio "retires" ....
Then we talk suckeys ... they're 2nd on my list.
December 13th, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
Not sure your post is serious, but Sparty is not losing a lot off that team and most think they have a chance to take a step forward not backwards next season. They will almost certainly be a preseason top 10 team next season. As much as it pains me, Dantonio and his team are not going away. Hear it from my Sparty coworkers, they are returning most of that team even if Waynes and Calhoun go pro.
We're not going to be able to sit back and wait for other teams to come back to the pack, we need to get in the game and bring it up to their level and beyond. Really is a bad year for us to play them at home because they will be heavy favorites.
December 13th, 2014 at 4:00 PM ^
Oh, and one last fact. sparty is crazy, and I mean crazy over-rated. Oregon and Suckeyes beat them like a drum.
December 13th, 2014 at 3:57 PM ^
what?? actually, they lose a ton. Best 3 players on offense ... best 3 on defense. Assuming calhoun and cook leave which is nearly a given since they're both are 1st rounders ... worse case, they stay and they have 1/2 their starters on both sides the ball.
Do you think our OL will be better? QB play? Coaching? DBs? Running back position? Are we playing at home? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and YES!
We are MICHIGAN!

The thing that has hurt UM the worse is preocupation with Sparty.
Here's the issue, Ohio State and Urban are ahead of MSU and as long as UM and MSU remain in a bitch fight, OSU prospers.
Also Ohio State is in the East, there will be some years when we may need Sparty to knock off Ohio St to win the East.
Bad move by Brandon is to insist that OSU stay inthe East so they play them once.
I would rather forget the November game and play them in the BT Championship game or have them as a permanent crossover.
But Sparty is not the problem, getting the right coach and getting Urban to retire would be far more effective. Because as long as Urban is in the league UM and probably MSU sit home for every Big Ten Championship game.

Michigan is still a good job. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't understand coaches mindsets. A coach always feels when they come things will change. I want to confident badass mofo to be out next coach. One who doesn't apologize to dantonio and stands up to urban Meyers bs. So Harbaugh.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:19 AM ^
For me, Harbaugh is the #1 guy because he is the one coach that I think OSU and MSU don't want to see at Michigan.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:22 AM ^
And everyone else who hates michigan. The rest of the big ten.
December 13th, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
yep ... it's happening brother! Jim comes HOME!
November 19th, 2014 at 10:57 AM ^
The Main Thing: Don't take coaching advice from SB Nation articles.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:01 AM ^
"You play to win the game." Find a cranky badass who can do that with good kids and everyone is happy.

Winning

The main thing is that his name be Jim Harbaugh :-)

Is that Schlitz, Pfeiffer, Blatz, Goebel's, Schaefer, or Hamm's you're drinking there?

Based on the comments about beer (regionally) she's made before, I'm going with Coronado Golden

My personal preference is for Citrusy, West Coast IPAs. Alpine, Societe and Mother Earth make my favorites. The good thing for all of you, is that Alpine (small/very limited distribution) was just bought by/partnered with Green Flash. So, if they don't screw up the recipe, many more people can enjoy the awesomeness that are the IPAs from Alpine Beer Co.
The closest thing to these beers (IMO) that are widely distributed is Stone's "Enjoy By". Still not the same, but much closer than the others.

The Program, the Program, the Program: someone who is a top-to-bottom architect of success on and off the field. I feel that Michigan in its last two searches didn't assess (or poorly assessed) someone who knew how to lay down a foundation, commit to a vision for BOTH sides of the ball and develop players that fit it.
We got the hotshot offensive mind and then the lower division prospect whose kids love him but can only kinda coach without properly vetting their individual ability to construct the whole of a program. That means a formula that recruits great student atheletes who fit what you do and can play with and exploit weaknesses in your conference. I also want a unicorn.

• His wife allows him to move the family out of the Bay area.
• He stops wearing Dad pants
• He wears a headset at all times, even when taking a shit or getting busy with wifey
• He says, "No, what's your deal?" to Mark Dantonio
• He makes Urban Meyer sit sadly and alone on a golf cart eating cold loser's pizza

"Off the charts" expectations and being able to make tough decisions to achieve them.
With players on the field, in the classroom, and with their personal behavior.
With his coaching staff.
With compliance on all rules and regulations.
With the team's on field record.

The main thing I want is whomever the next MICH coach is, he needs to be available to come over to my house at least once per week in the offseason and eat chicken wings, drink beer and play video games and or discuss new movies.

but the TrumpCard is No Good with a Loss H-Mry. A BowlGame WIN is needed too.
I spose-- to answer The Question-- its about . . .

You are the reverse knowledge.
November 19th, 2014 at 2:46 PM ^
It's about getting fired up for the home game vs. Maryland. Don't you ever tell Bo not to get fired up about a Michigan football game... well, except for the RichRod years.
(not sure if this makes sense, and I'm not a fan of the RichRod bashing, but if it helps this dude sleep at night, whatever.)
November 20th, 2014 at 12:46 AM ^
um, you're only supposed to send out ONE ransom note, dude...
November 19th, 2014 at 2:45 PM ^
In contrast to the Capital One Bowl, you have the RichRod bowl game vs. Mississippi State (2011 Gator Bowl). Uhh, this is VERY VERY Clear (lol).
The RichRod bowl was what it was.
(not sure what the point is here, I guess that RichRod didn't "DELIVER")
November 19th, 2014 at 2:43 PM ^
For example: The Capital One Bowl game vs. Florida, the Lloyd Carr game, was an absolutely heroic effort on behalf of players and coaching, especially coaching. (RE: "DELIVER")
