What happened to helmet visors for M players?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Something that just popped into my mind watching an old game. What happened to players on Michigan wearing helmet visors (or eye shields as some like to call them)?

Does Hoke not like them? I can't remember one player wearing one while Hoke has been coaching.

Roy Roundtree in 2010-

Gardner in 2010-

J.T. Floyd in 2010-

I would think that clear visors have the potential to obscure vision because of glare. On a sunny day or a night game, I certainly wouldn't want the QB, receivers, or DBs wearing them.

Tinted visors mess with your depth perception. Not terribly, but they do. I know some D1 tennis players who are told to not wear sunglasses when playing outside for this reason. Not sure how baseball fielders get away with it, but than you never see them wearing sunglasses to hit.

Maybe. I just feel like if it has to do with anything in the accessory/memorabilia category there is a strong chance you are bringing it forward to the board. I, for one, find it intriguing.

I remember a few months back I was reading a coversation between Gardner and Roundtree on Twitter, and they were talking about Roundtree playing in the Raycom College Football All-Star game. Roundtree mentioned something about finally being able to wear his visor again because coach wouldn't let him... It was something along those lines. Wish I could find the convo again.

Yes. How can he be a guage of another person's level of comfort? Could his assumption be wrong? Players aren't asking to change the uniforms. It could hurt someone's level of play or increase someone else's.  It should be addressed on a case by case basis instead of an all out ban. If it's too hard to adminster, then leave the decision up to the player. No one's going to sacrifice PT just to look cool.
