What do you want to see the Michigan offense do against Purdue?

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on

In part to move on from talking about Saturday's awfulness, I ask this:

What do you want to see Michigan's offense do against Purdue?  Let's take for granted that "score a lot" is the obvious answer.

I'd like to see the following:

1. Short passes to help Denard's confidence, especially in the first quarter;

2. Multiple attempts to play manball - maybe Cox or Rawls get some carries;

3. Screens if Purdue is constantly blitzing - I'll take any kind of screen.

Thoughts?

Show some damn imagination instead of the same things.  Also, adjust to what the defense is doing instead of letting Denard run down all day in his own backfield.  Give him some screens or quick slants to alleviate the pressure.

Everyone wants to see Michigan run the ball down Purdue's throat, and so do I. But that wont happen unless we win the battle in the trenches. So, I want to see a dominate Oline who manhandles the LOS. I dont want to see a negative run play, or any sacks. Also, I want to see Denard set his fucking feet. Im sick of all these off balanced throws. I know some of that is the olines fault and him being pressured, but he's been the starting qb now for a year and a half and he needs to start improving his technique. I know that is wishful thinking since we are past the halfwaypoint in the season, but you never know.

I feel like there is so much potential to create confusion in this set.  I understand that there's a greater chance for either QB to get hurt, but I think if they practiced this in game situations, got good at it, and worked out the kinks, this is the most productive set we can throw out there.

I'd like to see the plays designed so one of (at least) 4 things can happen: DG runs, DG passes, Denard runs, Denard passes.  THEN once you've got these things down, you can throw in RB runs as appropriate (or hell, have Vince throw a pass too, why not).

Defenses have no freakin' clue how to defend this.  It's a gold mine of offensive yardage.

No Cox, that's a bad idea.  Sorry, but he career is all but over at RB for us, let him go make a tackle on kick off or something.  If we're throwing in RBs not named Fitz or Smith, then I hope it's Rawls since he's the future.

I want to see DROB hit some short and long passes. I want to see Fritz, Cox and Rawls get some big runs. I want to see the team score 40 + points!!!!

I want the defensive line to me more aggressive and get some sacks or catch their RB behind the line of scrimmage.

I want to see this team playing harder. They should be angry about last weeks loss with another week to stew about it. I want to see this team in a total rage and take everything out on Purdue in a 49-0 win!!!!  That's what I would like to see.

MANBALL!!!!!!! Some runs runs up the middle for Rawls and short outside passes for denard and tackling with proper form clubbing and wraping up on defense and us to stuff some kick off return men

60 minutes of focused offensive football (time of posession dominance here, say maybe 38 minutes of posession time)) stressing and utilizing proper technique and proper blocking assignments by the offensive line to prepare us for Iowa and OSU's defensive lines.

This is so simple.

1) Start Gardner, rest DRob for IOWA.

2) When averaging 5.2 yds/ carry, KEEP RUNNING THE BALL.

3) If DRob takes another snap from under center this year, Borgess should be FIRED! Remember criticizing RR for square peg, round holes? Well, this is round peg, square hole.  KNOCK IT OFF ALREADY! He is not a pocket passer.

Watch Tom Brady NOT run the read option this Sunday.  GET A CLUE BORGESS!

Score more than enough to win and dominate, but have Denard throw just enough off-kilter passes so that people on the liveblog will start calling for Devin to take over by midway through the 2nd quarter, at which Devin comes in, plays well but not great, then people start complaining that Denard should be playing instead.

In reality, practice more screen passes but also re-establish the RBs and minimize the number of designed runs for Denard.  I don't want to see him take a beating unnecessarily when everyone knows the RBs need to get more invovled in the offense.  I'm not as impressed by the backfield as some are (Smith is a nice receiver and blocker, and Fitz is fast enough, but neither are all-down backs), but they need to be more involved in the offense, especially against teams like OSU, Nebraska, and Illinois with active fronts.
