What did Taylor Lewan do?
First off this was one of the most frustrating games I've ever watched in my 24 "cotten picking years." We had every chance to put this game away and for whatever reason we stalled. However- we got a Big ten win on the road with a defense that we should not expect much from. I knew it would come down to how the coaches managed the shootout. Props to RichRod for keeping the Team together in an otherwise demoralizing performance from our D and at times an offense that didn't take advantage of what they were given. Hell we could have scored 60 on these guys. I'm also happy that after Lewan made a freshman* mistake richrod ran out to take control of the situation. I'm curious to know what happened? Any clue?

I'd like to know the same...the EspnU coverage was HORRIBLE
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
They didn't show either of the roughing the passer penalties on Michigan. After seeing too many weak roughing penalties, I'm naturally skeptical of those calls, so I wanted to see if they were legitimate penalties. But no, they wouldn't show either one.

52-51 was worse, this was a WIN

It was 54-51. I was there.

just went back to check my "frustrated feelings" and remembered. We could not stop a spread attack if all our guys had shot guns

You mean you don't want to watch highlights from MSU-Wisconsin, or Denard's first-half runs instead of the actual FUCKING game?

^^^ you dropped this back there
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:26 PM ^
Oh, I thought it was tachometer. And it attacked so hard the apostrophe fell to the back end of the word.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:22 PM ^
Sure couldn't tell on TV. Best guess is Lewan saw someone hit someone and retaliated, because Lewan's body language was angry and fired-up, not sheepish. He looked pissed off about something still.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:22 PM ^
Not sure, but I'm surprised he wouldn't pull out his mustache tatoo in a moment like that. That would have made everyone calm down.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:23 PM ^
while i hate that he did what he did, it was nice to see the rest of the team (including RR) take control of the situation and yell at him about it. koger was giving him a mouthful, as apposed to most teams, where other players might escalate the incedent.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
What do you hate that he did? Details please.

trying to break one of their legs....
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:24 PM ^
The coverage was terrible so I guess the only people who might know are the ones at the game.
I hope it is nothing that can be reviewed by the NCAA.
October 2nd, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
the game was televised on ESPN ewuuuuuuuuu!!
October 3rd, 2010 at 3:00 PM ^
the NCAA has the power to reprimand and punish athletes for in-game actions. And even if they did, there doesn't seem to be any video evidence of what Lewan did.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:24 PM ^
Lewan is an aggressive young player and wants to take anyones head off that HE sees do wrong by him. He had many penalties as a HS player and has had many head ons with his own team mates. This may be what has and will continue to keep him off the field. Keeping that aggression in check is what it sounds like he needs to learn and channel at this point. That will come in time and in coaching, both on and off the field. The sky is the limit for this kid though.....
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:05 PM ^
at 5am before class will cure most things. Love the intensity - maturity will follow.
October 3rd, 2010 at 10:59 AM ^
That's excessive mandatory practice time... Can't do that!
October 3rd, 2010 at 3:01 PM ^
most certainly learn while he is ON the field displaying his potential NFL talent. Lewan may yet us some more yards with penalties. he, however will definitely gain us more yards with his talent then he will cost! this kid will not sit again while he is at michigan. i am sure the coaches are aware of his mean streak and will coach him accordingly! GO BLUE!
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:27 PM ^
I know Lewan took two Indiana defenders out on that TD run. I'm sure he was letting them know about it.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:43 PM ^
...he got up and put his finger stache to his upper lip and said to the player, "Seriously, I just want to pancake you over and over again." The ref saw/heard it and didn't approve.
And if you see the replay, Lewan could been called for holding as he was seriously tugging on the guy from behind.
October 2nd, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
could've been called a couple times on the last drive for holding.
Having said that, given how fired up he was after the penalty, I have to believe someone did something pretty bad to him to start the whole thing off. He had 5 UM players in his face and he still wasn't settling down.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:29 PM ^
He got thrown into Robinson's legs at the end of the play before the long pass to Hemingway. It was late and on the sideline. Pretty sure he was getting some payback.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:39 PM ^
I definitely cringed when I saw Lewan fall into Denard's legs. I thought for sure Denard was going to be seriously hurt.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:30 PM ^
I am certain I saw a "stomping" motion made as the player stepped over Lewan. I think the MGoVideoGurus will find indisputable video evidence that the player stomped on Lewan's calf.
Result:
Coachable moment for the staff
Opportunity for senior leadership
Lewan does not have his agressive edge dampened by the coaches. He might not have a pleasant week of practice, but it will take more than a coach or two to dampen his enthusiasm.
Now, if I am right, it will be interesting to see the coverage.

October 2nd, 2010 at 7:36 PM ^
he pancaked a guy at the goal line just as denard crossed it. lewan was laying on the guy. then espn cut away.
i'm guessing the dguy was fed up and starting kicking to get lewan off of him. then retaliation probably started and so on.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:43 PM ^
but @ the OP this the most important part of your post.
"However- we got a Big ten win on the road" This was a great win. On the road against for SOME a lightly regarded opponent, on their home field for a revenge game, with what has amounted to their best offensive team. I'll celegrate the W and hope like hell the coaches can coach these young'uns up.

I loved it. We need 5 more like him. This is football and it has to be played with passion and fire. His teammates got in there and RR got in there and handled it. I'm not saying we should fight on the field, but I do love his tenacity.

on the D LINE to help Martin and Co. with the five man pass rush.
October 2nd, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
Aftr the spring game it was obvious it was jut a matter of time, he is an absolute beast out there. I said he would take a few PF's but the upside is just to great and he will start until he goes to the next level. To have Hugye free as backup makes us much better as he can play 4 positions. They will reign Lewan in we have lots of leadership on the o-line.
October 2nd, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
After the sideline incident, it looked like Lewan was coming back to talk with Denard before each play the rest of the drive, I'm guessing saying something like, "I'm about to fuck this dude up in front of me so be prepared to take advantage."

pushed us back 15 yards on the kickoff and I was expecting them to pooch kick it which would have given IU good field position for the hail Mary. Instead, they kicked it deep and trusted the cover team.
