What can fans expect over the next 4 weeks?

Submitted by MGoLiteral on

I must say, I am thrilled that Michigan will be going to a bowl game. However, it's been so long I have forgotten what normally happens during the 4 week break. 4 weeks is a long time without football. Does the athletic department normally do anything during that time to wet the appetites of michigan fans?

Can we expect any of the following here in AA?

Bowl practices/scrimmages open to the public?

Mgoblue.com 30 day countdown of bowl practices, like they did during summer camp?

"Fan Day" before the team travels to the bowl location?

Other events for fans?

I know this will all be announced in the near future, but I am wondering if there are events that have occured in the past that we might expect again this year.

"MGoBlog readers are already working day and night at the arduous task of whittling down 81 purely hypothetical candidates into a more focused list of 8-10 coaches* that they know nothing about; this abridged list of candidates makes it easier for the truly delusional fan to track their flights on the internet."

The discussions of who will be on the search committee for the hypothetical new coach. I'll get the list started:

Mary Sue Coleman and Dave Brandon: Goes without saying.

Mike Hart: Evaluates coaches' potential for treating Red Ass Syndrome.

Santa Claus: In charge of gifting only the highest profile candidates into the job.

Jesus Christ: Because only candidates who can walk on water will satisfy both the M fans and the local sports media.

But it would be nice to see us make a pleasant transition from disappointing loss to hopeful anticipation for our first bowl game since 2007 and a (once?) promising recruiting class.

Had us going to Tempe and playing OKST... I must say that bowl games are all about match-ups.  Having 3 11-1 Big Ten teams means two BCS teams, which means everyone gets shifted to a higher bowl.  This is not necessarily a good thing as it can mean that match-ups might not be favorable.  OKST is probably not a great match-up for us...

It'll probably be the Insight or Gator to face Ok St, Nebraska, A&M or Oklahoma depending on the Big 12 title matchup and results or something like South Carolina or LSU in the Gator.

<br>The SEC teams seem like better matchups, personally.

The teams you listed are far and away better than anyone Michigan will face (I hope).  We would be double digit underdogs to any of these teams.

Better lower that expectation  -  we were 7th in the B10 !!!   You think we'd play the Big 12 title game loser ???   Whoa ... I think your Iphone must have typed this by itself.

Start looking at the middle of the pack teams in the PAC10 and SEC conferences ... this would include Arizona, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi State.  I personally believe it will be an SEC team.

The Insight Bowl will host the #4 team in the Big 12.  One of the above teams is going to finish fourth in the conference.  And if Michigan is taken after Iowa and Penn State as many people think, they will match up against one of those teams in the Insight Bowl.  It has nothing to do with high expectations, it is fact

Answer  -  anyway "they" want it.

If you look at the Bowl Predictions out today, more predictions have Michigan play Missouri than any other.  One I saw (looked at 6 predictions) had A&M and one had Florida.  We are B10 #7 (with Northwestern).  PSU, Iowa and Illinois get higher "seeds" than us.

Go Blue !

* Calm, rational thouht and a lot of patience from our fanbase.

* A real focus by our fans on the outcome of our bowl game, and ignoring distractions like coaching issues

* continued great hair days for GERG

Go ahead and Neg bomb away, get mad at me for being the messenger, but this is what I have heard from someone in the AD's office....

Michigan IS NOT "searching" for a new coach.

Brandon WILL meet with Harbaugh this week.

????? You say....

That was my reaction as well.  The explanation I recieved....

Given the current talent on the team and situation in the program and outside pressures, Brandon believes that either Harbaugh or RR is the best man for the job for the near and distant future.

IE....If Brandon is blown away by Harbaugh will RR may be replaced, but don't expect a public firing/ coach search.

Frankly, the last one bothers me more than the others.  The past is where all the tradition and wins came from.  The present on the other hand...

There will be 15 practices and a lot of questions and many wondering who DB has had conversations with and when he has them.

The question is, will the fanbase be more disappointed to hear the current staff is retained or if they are let go.

...I've already had my first text message about a "special press conference" for Monday.  Which I do *NOT* believe yet mind you, just before you Negbang me.

I expect at least 4 more of these type of "This is coming" rumor before the bowl game.

30 comments and none of them even attempt to answer the question.

I don't remember hearing about open practices or a fan day. I would guess that practices would be closed so that they can work on specific plays they will run against whomever they are playing their bowl game.

and see Mario Manningham make a catch, his twisty route complemented highly by the commentator.

Oh, sorry.  What was the question again?

Practice.  Lots of NCAA-approved practice.

is a secondary topic.  The speculation about Rod's future will infect every discussion, from the current players to recruiting.  Let's end the speculation as soon as possible.
