......was actually given to me. A football with Anthony Carter's autograph on it.

What is the best piece of Michigan football history you have in
I have 4 Drink coasters made out of Michigan Stadium Astroturf that we use on our Michigan Bar/Room at the Lake.
I have a lot of old newspapers, The Wolverine magazines, autographed Big Ten preview mag (Avant, can't remember who else), autographed M hat by Chris Perry.
I carry my Michigan treasures in my heart.
*sniffle*
Maybe one day I've have some special M memorabilia, but the memories of PSU '05, Wiscy '08 and ND '09 (to name a few) will last forever.
and nobody can take those away..........unless you are an organ donor and someone ends up taking your heart - then you're pretty much screwed.
Proudly framed in the 'Big House' frame my parents got me, hanging in the study.:)
Football autographed by most of the 97 defense sitting in my families safety deposit box in bank of Ann arbor
should be sitting on your mantel for everyone to see
No way I'm letting anything happen to that ball. If I could it would get the same type of climate/pressure/environment controls NASA gives a moon rock.
Tyrone Wheatley's torn hamstring.
No, but seriously, my Charles Woodson autographed football. Unfortunately, it's a Raiders silver and black football, but still it was free and it's Charles Woodson.
I teach at a HS in Toledo and he came on a recruiting trip while working with Eastern. I was walking to the office one day when I noticed a huge dude walking around aimlessly. Long story short, I pointed him in the right direction while stating that he looked familiar, which he denied. When I persisted, he claimed "I played a little college football." We talked about random UM related topics and he gave me an autograph with #6 and Go Blue! on it. Plus I stole the school's visitor login sheet with his name on it. Good day at work.
!!! Quite possibly the greatest story I've heard today (Well it is 12:10 am now, but counting yesterday too). Very envious.
Even though the freep is now made up of no talent ass clowns, I have the paper from them after Michigan won the 1998 Rose Bowl with the headline Hail, Yes! and a picture of Woodson on the front page. I also have the Detroit News paper from that game as well.
I have the same, With woodson's autograph. Only piece of wall art that has followed me since college
And the SI.
from the first day it was printed after the '98 Rose Bowl. I actually snagged a bunch of them. I still have about a dozen packed away, full newspaper, complete with crossword. I might be able to be persuaded to get rid of them.
There were two newspapers I saved. The 1969 M-OSU game, and "Man Walks on Moon." Relatively equivalent events.
But my favorite would have to be a game Issued 2005 Braylon Edwards Rose Bowl signed on the back number.
My brother snagged some artificial turf from M Stadium when they converted to grass before converting back to turf. He gave me a square inch for Christmas.
I have an autographed program with Bo's autograph on it, plus several players and Ron Kramer.
I was at Bo's first Rose Bowl win. I don't have any souvenir's from that, only memories.
My Dad has a game program collection. He has something like 25 years worth of game programs, home and away. Every game, we'd buy two programs and he'd wrap them up in black plastic garbage bags just in case it rained. He kept one for himself, and donated a set to some auction every year.
He also collected all of his ticket stubs with the idea of one day putting them all up on the wall. He hasn't got to that yet, but I always thought that was a cool idea.
I have coasters made from the astroturf that was in the Big House '82-90.
From the OSU game in 1997 when everyone rushed the field, I found a small Jack Daniels bottle and filled it up.
from when it was replaced in the mid-late 80s.
I have a Michigan hat that was signed on the bill be Rick Leach.
Unfortunately, I don't have much else
Championship parade in Ann Arbor.
Some idiot engraved "TP" on the inside....weird!
from Forest Evashevski's personal scrapbook. My history teacher in HS was his daughter. She knew what a fan I was and asked him for a memento. He took an original picture out of his own scrapbook and signed it personally to me. It's an incredible treasure to me.
I didn't know who that was. Looked it up...That's really cool. Thanks for leading me to a little more knowledge about our wolverines.
That's so cool that he got the picture out of his own scrap book.
Evashevski in action; blocking for Harmon. In this iconic photo, that's Evy #69 on the ground, having sprung Harmon around end once again.
On another occasion, Evashevski shocked both his coach and teammates by lighting a victory cigar on the sidelines with thirty seconds to play in a 1939 win over Ohio State
Bad Ass.
at Michigan Stadium any more? This man deserves to be in the pantheon of Michigan Men BIG TIME.
Best one on here yet...
Forest Evashevski's personal scrapbook. My history teacher in HS was his daughter.
A Community High grad?

That's great!
Was trying to edit that so everyone could see it. That ship has sailed, unfortunately.
actual snow from a past Michigan game? That is amazing!
While I was a student, I ran in to Desmond Howard in a Taco Bell and got his autograph.
That's terrible, the arrogance to think you shouldn't just use all the coaches that were already there. Who would do such a thing?
Next you're going to tell me that Bo forced players to do things his way, instead of adapting to what their skills were and doing what they were used to.
Of course, Bo may have needed to adopt a different strategy had there been only 85 scholarship players per team. 1969 was still the good ol' days of unlimited roster sizes.
A few weeks ago I was looking for some stuff in my parent's attic; found a box of dishes, wrapped in the front page of the press the day after Michigan beat tOSU in '97. The one with Sir Charles with the rose in his teeth. I nearly wept.
I do have some pictures from taking a tour of Schembechler Hall after the Illinois game; the weight room, practice fields, film theater, lounge and locker room, etc. Including one of a friend's son in front of Denard's locker with his practice helmet on. Did anyone else know that the QB's under RR wore helmet cameras to see where they were looking when making reads? Kinda cool. While we were there, someone had left a helmet on one of the med tables that had what looked like signatures from every player. I'm not a thief, but if I thought I could've gotten away with it I would've robbed it. Shame almost everyone was gone, but we did meet Ray Vinopal. Nice kid. Small little dude, but nice.
Other than that, I've got tickets and "Beat USC" towels from the '07 Rose Bowl, (makes panda sad) but my favorite is a mini football signed by Denard and Roy Roundtree. Not that I would sell it, but that was another reason I was nervous about Robinson transferring.
With Bo, Mo, Lloyd, Cam Cameron, Les Miles...among others.
I kept grass that I "borrowed" from the field after the 1997 OSU victory. I held onto it for years until I eventually got rid of it.
I think michgoblue still has some in his fridge if I'm not mistaken.
I still have a piece of the 40 yard line in a sandwich bag.
Yup piece of turf from 97 OSU game.
My wife's friend pulled out some of the benches they tore out when they did the rennovation a while back when they were lowering the field.
I DO have a "Student Section" sign I found in storage at the back of Savage Hall from Toledo's Glass Bowl, which had broken and somebody had tossed into the dumpster back there, but having never gone to M, I was never able to accumulate stuff like that.
Until after the brave heroes like you took one for the team...I can remember watching the misfortune of the first few students to jump on the field...
My granddad attended UM from 1901 to 1905, and he got to witness the first four seasons of Yost's tenure. One of the photos in his photo album (taken by a commerical photographer, not my granddad) from the time is a shot taken from the sidelines of the November 1904 game with Chicago in Ann Arbor. Many of the players are blurry, but Germany Schulz clearly stands out.
That sounds amazing, I love all that historical, black and white stuff.
A real football helmet with some small red paint marks (from contact?), a photograph with me and Denard, a baseball cap with a bunch of players signatures from last year (Tate, Denard, Kev Koger, Troy Woolfolk, etc..), my Michigan sweatshirt that I wore to the 1987 Rose Bowl, plus my original 1985 Bball Big Ten Championship t-shirt.
Bo Schembechler passed away. I bought a copy of the Free Press with Bo's beautiful face gracing the cover and put it under my mattress in Alice Lloyd Hall. I like to think that it is still there - protecting whoever is sleeping in that gross, uncomfortable bed.
I have one of his books with his autograph, the Freep from Jan 2 after Bo won his first Rose Bowl in 1982, and a pictures of my son standing next to Lloyd Brady after the Illinois win this year.
Bo's autograph, AC's autography, and Ricky Leach's autograph all in one little book.
Also, pretty much the entire 86 Big Ten Champion hoops team signed on one basketball. Tarpley, Glen Rice, Butch Wade, Gary Grant, Garde Thompson, need I go on?
I have dirt and yellow grass from the "M" in the end zone where Woodson scored his TD vs Ohio St. in 1997.
Game ticket from PSU 2005, my freshman year.
It's in a briefcase. Jon Travolta and Samuel Jackson are holding it for me.
What?
I know that. Hence the, "What?"
English Mother F***er, do you speak it!
Say "What" one more time
What ain't no country I ever heard of.
Do they speak English in What?
It's in a briefcase. Jon Travolta and Samuel Jackson are holding it for me.
and no you cannot date my daughter! Ever
A piece of the goal post which we students tore down after Michigan clinched the 1979 Big Ten title with a victory over Purdue. We had to drag it halfway across campus before we found someone with a hack saw.
That was Rick Leach's last season not counting the Rose Bowl.o
You may be right. I couldn't decide whether it was 78 or 79, but I know we beat Purdue for the title.
Pouring out of my Maize and Blue soul right now. See, this is the stuff my generation will probably never ever get to experience. There is no way in hell that UM security, event staff or AA police will let students just haul around a goalpost looking for a hacksaw nowadays. <sigh> Those were (or rather, must have been) the days.
You can't pull them down, anyway - they're buried deep in concrete now.
Is bring a hacksaw to the games?
Yes, we routinely did things as "college fun" that are now considered criminal acts. I don't mean anything violent or harmful, of course. I will say that A2 police beat us up pretty badly while we were pulling it down. I got smashed across the ribs while hanging from the crossbar. Luckily, I was well medicated. Once it was down, they let us (a mob of about 100) make off with it. Sorry for the hyper-litigious society we've become.
signed by the 2006 football team
is the 1965 University of Missouri yearbook, with Lloyd Carr in a couple of action shots at QB as well as the team photo. I got Lloyd to sign it during the 2004 car wash for Mott Hospital, and Mike Hart, Andy Moeller, and Jim Herrmann signed it as well.
You win... for the rarity alone
It was Ron Johnson's 347-yard day versus Wisconsin. It always surprises me that it didn't get soaked that day.
My HD capture of the basketball win vs Duke
It's my dad's jersey and they were really sweater like back then. I also have the program from the first game I attended (I was two weeks old so I don't remember the game so the program helps).
Every ticket stub to every game I've been to. Starting with the 1989 game against Wisconsin (my fr year of H.S.), every home game during my 4 years at UM, and as recent as the Illinois 3ot game this year.
My Uncle took me to the MSU game in 1972, I was 9 years old! The year before I became a big Michigan fan. It was better than Christmas Eve, I couldn't sleep the night before the game. I remember it was a very low scoring defensive struggle and we won 10 to 3 ? or 10 to zip!
I have a small maize and blue foam football signed by Ricky Powers, Desmond Howard, Elivis Grbac and a few others I don't recall.
Avatar fraud is a serious offense...
Weird that this thread was posted today... I was just cleaning out my basement and found a laminated newspaper coverpage of the Detroit News (?) from January 2nd, 1998 with a picture of Charles Woodson and the headline is "Perfect Season."
I have a puck signed by Red. Also have programs and tickets from last couple of years (including ND from last year and Illinois from this year...both really memorable games for me).
Two 1970 "Goody Goody Bo Beat Woody" bumper stickers from Ann Arbor Bank.
You had two choices -- $25.00 or $50.00 dispensed in little cash envelopes.
Tom Harmon and Gerald Ford autographs.
I have the game ticket of the last time we beat OSU in 2003 (AHHHH), along with the last time we won a bowl game against touchdown Timmy on Jan 1, 2008 framed and on my desk.
From the south end zone. We used to stay after games when I was young and the security wasn't as tight to run around and throw on the field. One time they accidentally left 1 pylon in the south end zone. It sits next to the tv for games.
He signed my copy of his book. It was cool as he actually made it out to me with a personalized note vs. just scribbling his name...
I have a 2 seat section of the benches in place when the Big House was originally dedicated. Definitely one of the best presents I have ever received.
not so much Michigan stuff.
I have an original "In Memorium" document (dunno what the official name for those is) from Bo's funeral.
And an old-skool "nun puncher" kinda toy that's a Michigan-helmet guy instead of a nun, dunno what those are called.
Bo's autograph in Michigan memories. A 1930 Michigan pin (old school font) with maize and blue ribbons, it was my great uncles. The entire 1997, The Wolverine series with my South Carolina address ( I miss living in Charleston). The 1998 first edition Wolverines Championship magazine that came with a M Rose bowl hat. The Wolverine magazine with one Tom Brady on the front.
I've got some structural drawings from the Stadium Expansion, infill seating, and light supports.
A Bob Ufer autographed "Uger of Michigan" record album.
A 2 inch squared piece of the old Tartan Turf cut by me in 1992.
Doing this from an iPhone
from the Northwestern game in '97
That was the day the Stanley Cup was brought to Michigan Stadium, so that was cool
of ticket stubs plus photos from games / tailgating, etc., but actual "memorabelia" includes a Michigan pennant signed by Marlin Jackson & a Michigan baseball bat.
The bat is from 1962 - 1965 (can't remember the exact year... remember Bill Freehan?). I was in elementary school and after school in the spring I would walk to the baseball diamond to watch the games. I loved baseball back then & after being there so often, the team actually asked me to be their bat boy .... it was soooooo cool !!! In one game a bat was splintered (piece came off the barrel). I took the bat and piece home and using whatever nails I could find, I re-attached the splintered piece. Now nearly 50 years later I still have that bat .... a Mickey Mantle signature with University of Michigan branded into the barrel. Though its technically worthless ... I will always treasure it !!!!
Go Blue !
Is that an authentic, Lloyd-issued pickax from that season?
Which is probably one illustration why I get so pissy when every problem in the free (and not so free) world is heaped at Lloyd's feet...
Gets my vote for the best memorabilia on this post. I am so impressed by that. I thought they were just things of legend.
I like a lot of the ones that some of you have and am a little jealous on a few of them. I have a ton of autographed pics on the walls (Carter, Harmon, Brady, Kramer, Leach, etc..) and I am attempting to obtain a ticket stub from every year since 1900 (which is crazy hard and expensive) but I would have to say my favorite things are probably the 1916 ticket stub book with only 1 game missing and a record with the recording of Bo's upset win against OSU.
Number one would be a Charles Woodson signed helmet. I got to meet him his rookie year in the NFL at a charity function. Number 2 would be a picture that Bo sighed for me of him and his defensive lineman. Last but not least is a shoe that Desmond Howard wore and signed his Heisman season. I have many more but those are the three most prized possesions from my collection.
Got a UM mini helmet signed by Charles Woodson and my ticket stub to the 98 Rose Bowl.
I have all my ticket stubs saved from the last 10 years. 04-MSU and 05-PSU are always in the front.
My "Tales from Michigan Stadium" book signed by Jim Brandstatter. I have a 1997 National Championship football with all scores listed on it but it's not signed by anybody.
I have Bo's autograph framed even though it's not to me. My mom ran in to him in the waiting room of a Lansing hospital in 1987. Bo was there for a checkup and he was in the waiting room reading a magazine. My mom went up to him and asked for his autograph and he couldn't have been nicer. Unfortunately, the only color pen my mom had on her was Buckeye red. So Bo wrote to my dad, "To Rich, best wishes and go blue! (not red!)"
Even though it was signed to my dad, I stole it several years ago.
Do you even keep the ones from games we lose? I always pitch those.
Yeah, I pitch the stubs from losses. This is a recent development.
I used to have an 18-0 record at the Big House. Then I went to the App State game in 2007. And my record is 2-4 since.
The Horror was the first time I saw them lose too. Awful memory
Got a sweet photograph of my Dad goin' 'round end (a la Ron Kramer) from his stint on the '56 freshman squad. I'm not quite advanced enough to be able to post it. No autograph yet, I'll get it tomorrow.
Or I can ask him to sign his two All-American awards from his second sport - hockey.
Yes, I live vicariously through my Dad.
My favorite item I have is a Jake Long signed mini-helmet.
132 Ticket stubs spanning 3 decades.
Not too much - just some old game programs (and Michigan Football Guides - I miss those) and ticket stubs. Also, I have a couple replica posters of game programs - including from the 1927 OSU game (dedication of the stadium).
My Bo autographed Michigan helmet is a very close second.
I have an authentic Michigan helmet signed Charles Woodson Heisman 97. Also a number five signed by Lamarr woodley. A Charles Woodson signed 8x10 on the punt return against that school in Ohio. Several programs and the tickets from Denard Robinsons record breaking game against Wisc. I treasure them all.
Bo's autograph on the top of my army helmet.
I vote this the winner of this thread. Can you tell us the story behind this helmet and what inspired you to paint it?
that's pretty cool.
A 7-foot length of Michigan Stadium bleacher acquired out of a dumpster during renovations about five years ago. Ever tried walking in the snow back to the dorm carrying a 7-foot length of bleacher?
Also have, in jars, clumps of turf from Michigan Stadium in '97, Spartan Stadium in '05, Notre Dame Stadium in '06, the '07 Rose Bowl, and the '08 Capital One Bowl.
Does it naturally grow its own coating of feces, or do you have to do it yourself?
I have the Hail Yes picture framed and signed, with all of my ticket stubs from all the games around it. I have a Michigan Football and Helmet and a dresser full of Michigan gear.
A Wheatley jersey. It's one he didn't wear, but it is the real deal. I also have a game worn one from Jeff Potts (backup tackle) in '98.
My second favorite would be a postcard of Michigan Stadium from 1927. The lady who originally sent it wrote "what a great plave to watch a game" in the margin under the picture. It's not worth much, but still rings true 84 years later.
Just some National Championship goodies. Beer stien and a sweatshirt. The wife decided the shirt would be good for painting in.
A brick from Yost, personally stolen by me after a part of the facede near the roof collapsed due to snow buildup two years ago. I got a good scare walking back with it when an AAPD car turned its lights and siren on as it pulled up near me, but he was pulling a car over. Nearly crapped my pants.
a lot of fucking good memories....
Michigan Memories book signed by Bo and Jamie Morris. And the next best thing after that is a ticket stub from the Anthony Carter game.
Michigan Memories book signed by Bo and Jamie Morris. And the next best thing after that is a ticket stub from the Anthony Carter game.
I have a copy of 'Man In Motion', the autobiography written by Bo with Joe Falls in the early 1970s. Like in Year 5 or 6 or Bo's tenure. I'd have to look up the year.
It's my grandfather's book. And he had it signed by both authors during what must have been some sort of Christmas signing, gathering
Bo wrote: "To Mac, Have A Go Blue Christmas"
Falls wrote: "And Boo On The Bucks"
good grief, i wrote a book report on this when i was in the 7th grade in 1984. lol
#1 hardcover Michigan Memories signed by Bo.
Just about every program from 98 to now and if it was a big win, I keep the ticket stub in the program.
Go Blue!
I have a news paper from after the first game Henne and Hart played in. I also have a pair of michigan slippers that I wear all the time. Sometimes to the store when I dont feel like putting on shoes. I also have the fantastic memory of marquis walker doing the leap to tip the ball over double coverage to finally catch it in the air.
...that the Michigan Marching Band spelled out my name on the field. Purdue game, 1994. And a framed, personally inscribed photo of Lloyd Carr.
pray, do tell. how did this come to happen?
I like your photo with Ernie Harwell.
Commemorative Wheaties box with Michigan Wolverines on it after the NCAA 1997 Football Championship.
Commemorative issue of Sports Illustrated after 1997 Football Championship.
FYI,
One of the guys at my office once attended a garage sale at Bo's house. Unfortunately, I found out about it after the fact. From what I heard the coolest thing there was a wolverine pelt for sale for $250. Since wolverines are endangered species you had to have a special permit to have such an item. My coworker bought some glasses, how boring.
I have a lot of stuff that's been listed here. But two of the more unusual items I have is a Michigan Marching Band Feather Plume I found outside the parking lot in Markley and my copy of Bo's Lasting Lessons signed by John Bacon. He wrote "To a True Blue Michigan Man and Leader!" There is nothing like listening to John Bacon tell stories about Bo for an hour and getting your "Michigan Man" endorsement from the man himself.
Is the program when Michigan played Oklahoma in the 76 Orange Bowl. It is the only time the two teams ever met. OU had the Selmon brothers. Michigan was led by Leach and had Les Miles on that team.
Best thing was sitting in the endzone where AC scored the game winning td against Indiana, was only 14 then, but that was the best experience ever.
I have a lot of possessions, but the two that mean the most to me are pictures of my son at the Big House. One during spring fan day at the age of probably 4, in full UM football gear, after playing football on the field for a while, I got a great pic of him in the endzone celebrating a touchdown. The other pic is at about age 7, just before we left the country. He's on the top row of the stadium, smiling ear to ear with Nixonesque double peace sign, with the massive stadium behind him.
These two pictures hold great memories for me, and my son and I like to look at them and remember home.
...and Mr. Woodson which is on his bedroom wall:

Go Blue.
I don't have a lot of memorabilia, but I do still have a six pack of Pepsi issued for the '97 MNC, still has sweet victorious Pepsi inside.
years ago (and I'm talking maybe 1980 when I was a teenager), I literally walked into what is now Schembechler Hall and made it all the way to Bo's secretary. I told her I was a fan and asked if Coach was around because I wanted to say hi. That's the only reason I gave - I wanted to say hi (the idiocy of this now, in retrospect, is overwhelming). Sadly Bo wasn't in but I asked if I could see the office and she said yes. Unbelievable. So I got to poke around Bo's office for a few minutes which was totally f*****g cool. It was an awesome enough experience that I probably could have somehow parlayed it into getting laid. Didn't happen but I'm working on a revisionist history of my life (now that I'm a sad, married, middle-aged cog in the machine who still doesn't get laid) in which I bang all manner of chicks back at the dorm after regaling them with my tall tales of adventure. Ahh, to be young again....
autographed by Bo. One of my employees stood in line three hours to get it.
My GF's dog chewed on the corner. UURRgghhhhh!!!!!!!!!
To the 1979 Indiana game.....you know...Wagler to Carter with 6 seconds left.
We beat OSU and that was on the front page. Plus, Anwar Sadat became the first because the first Arab leader to visit Israel, seeking a peace settlement. There was a little snippet about ABC cutting away for his plane landing, setting off tons of phone calls into the radio station.
Plus, when we beat OSU in '97 I took some sod and saved it in a plastic bag.
But I'd have to it would be my Mike Hart autographed helmet that has the plaque on the display case "MIKE HART #20 ALL-TIME LEADING RUSHER AT MICHIGAN"
Also my Tom Brady autographed plaque too. I'm going to fan day in august so I'll have to make more room..
Mine is Denard Robinson's Autograph from Fan Day.
also signed by Sam Mele(Boston Red Sox scout-also coached Billy Martin as a player). Sat next to Sam for the Big Ten Tournament. Sam bitched for two days about this kid(Barry Larkin) wanting $350,000 to sign out of college.
I have quite a few items. Desmond signed jersey, a few photos signed by Charles Woodson, Tom Harmon and Gerald Ford signed index cards. My favorite football item has to be this signed lithograph of Bo Schembecher of the celebration after the 1969 OSU win. I still have to get it framed. I don't have a pic of mine, but here is one on ebay. I only have Bo's autograph on mine. I'm not sure if I should add guys on it, or leave it with just Bo.
Not football, but I also have signed 8x10's of each member of the Fab Five. Webber's autograph is not pretty.
A signed letter from Fritz Crisler thanking my great-grandfather, and enclosing two tickets for him for the Army game, for moving the granite block at Michigan Stadium upon which sits the eagle at at the entrance near Stadium and Main.
my photo with Chris Webber in New Orleans 1993 hours before he called the fateful time out. Now we've lost those banners, um, not so much.
Also, from the old scoreboards, I have the 'OHIO STATE' that they would slide into the board (it's like 15 feet long).
Interesting enough, they're double-sided and the other side says 'SOUTH CAROLINA' (who last visited Ann Arbor in 1985)
I have:
1) The Michigan Daily - November 24, 1997: "The Victors!" including commemorative wrap-around section "Fight To The Finish".
2) Detroit Free Press - January 2, 1998: "Hail Yes!"
3) Detroit Free Press - January 5, 1998: "Perfect!"
I'm willing to sell them all to a loving home, btw ;) e-mail me if interested. [email protected]
