Actually, this thread appears every year as a light-hearted knock on various MGoThings and it usually goes reasonably well. Most folks don't cross any boundaries whereby they would be ridiculing religion - most people, I said. There is always one person whose snark initiates a 30-40 post sidebar because they could not help themselves. Typically, that will get deleted after other users let the "problem" have it.

When Brian banned a bunch of people last year, he made a comment about one way to survive is to not have an avatar. I never really appreciated that comment until fauxmichbro came along. Every time I see that stupid LA laker fanboy, I want to downvote his comment. I usually don't care what people say. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, it's just 99% of the time I disagree with his.

I like how for a lot of people, News Years resolutions tend to fizzle out around this time, and Lent is there like, "Hey buddy, are you SURE you don't want to stop eating Taco Bell six times a week? I offer another chance to kick the habit." Yes Lent, I am sure. Mind your own business.

What fairness and consistency do you see a problem with? Nobody is pushing religion or politics and there are open threads for just about any holiday someone can name; none get taken down unless the comments go off the rails, which hasn't happened here.
