What are you drinking for Opening Night?
So, it is opening night. We're all going to watch South Carolina despite nobody giving a crap about South Carolina. This is supposed to involve BOOZE!, which I have selected as a user tag. What will be yoru BOOZE! of choice?
They had Dogfish Head Midas Touch on sale for $9.99 at the local store, which is actually a shockingly good price for the nectar that is Midas Touch. So good. Also, it packs a punch if your lucnh was an orange. WHOO!

PBR, cheap college student here. I can't wait to see some football.
August 30th, 2012 at 8:17 PM ^
love your choice, as I for one am a broke college student as well!
August 30th, 2012 at 5:24 PM ^
I'm not that into Vandy-SC, but I can't wait to watch Leach's concoction at 10:15pm.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:25 PM ^
But... BOOZE!
August 30th, 2012 at 6:21 PM ^
HELL YES BOOZE
August 30th, 2012 at 5:24 PM ^
I think I might open up a bottle of 18-year Laphroaig that one of my best friends gave me for my wedding.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:26 PM ^
And I love me some 10 year Laphroaig. If I want smokey single malt, my go-to is now Ardmore, so long as I can find it.
August 30th, 2012 at 8:27 PM ^
I have always wanted to try that but haven't gotten around to it. If I do go with scotch this weekend it'll likely be a ten year old Glenmorangie, likely as a victory dram. For watching football I will be celebrating the arrival of Fat Tire to Michigan.
August 30th, 2012 at 9:01 PM ^
Review: The 18 year Laphroaig is simultaneously the peatiest and the smoothest whisky I have ever tasted.
Definately the tastiest scotch I've ever owned, though I have an unopened bottle of 17 year Glengoyne also from my wedding so I will need to try that soon.
August 30th, 2012 at 8:48 PM ^
Aaaaaaand that's what I get for trying to post this from a smart phone.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:26 PM ^
Blazefire, you're local, right? So where did you find Midas Touch for $9.99?
August 30th, 2012 at 5:28 PM ^
Temperance, MI, just over the border from Toledo. Midas Touch for $9.99 at Food Town at Lewis ave and Temperance Rd.
Good to see another MT fan!

Dortmunder Gold is the usual go-to on any type of sporting event so that along with some Two-Hearted leads to a good night.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:36 PM ^
I started too early. Those things are tad too strong.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:36 PM ^
a steady dose of homework tonight. I have to get it finished up so that I don't have to worry about it on Saturday when I can watch football all day. I might have to put the games on in the background though.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:42 PM ^
Gatorade. Maize and Blue gatorade mixed.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:48 PM ^
But doesn't that make green gatorade?
August 31st, 2012 at 10:56 AM ^
BLUE GATORADE AND VEGETABLE OIL
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'll be at a wedding reception this Saturday, unfortunately, and drinking Champagne to toast the bride and groom. At least the reception starts an hour before kickoff. I've already checked with the bar at this particular club, and they'll have at least one TV tuned into the game. And the country club is only 5 minutes from home, so I should be able to leave, take off my suit, see the whole second half in comfort. I think I'll be driving alone and have my wife take a separate car.

New Belgium! Either the Trippel or Red Hoptoberfest. Excited they are in Michigan. Anyone been able to find Sam Adams Fat Jack? Both times I've been to Holiday Market they are sold out.
August 30th, 2012 at 6:31 PM ^
It's New Belgium's Ranger IPA for me. Finally in Michigan and I love the 22 oz bottles.
August 30th, 2012 at 8:25 PM ^
Ashley's serves the 22oz bottles, which is great!
August 30th, 2012 at 7:02 PM ^
Trippel is amazing, I love "Buzz in a bottle".
August 30th, 2012 at 7:35 PM ^
Just about to crack my first Fat Tire. Grabbed a Red Hop as well.
August 30th, 2012 at 8:50 PM ^
Also going for a couple Red Hoptobers. Six pack was on sale for $9, which isn't really that bad in DC, sadly.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:44 PM ^
Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest and Laguintas Hop Stoopid. Just picked up a case of Oktoberfest - Prost!

Midas Touch tastes like mushrooms, PS.
August 30th, 2012 at 11:48 PM ^
That's one thing I DEFINITELY do not taste in there.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:46 PM ^
with a pckled bean and a pepperoncini fully submerged.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:47 PM ^
Ichabod from New Holland Brewery. Such a good pumpkin ale.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:47 PM ^
Agreed...the only one I'll touch. Great balance.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:49 PM ^
So I can only assume Spotted Cow or other delights from New Glarus.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
Spotted Cow is a tourist beer, If you have to drink New Glarus drink their IIPA or Uff-da Bock (if they still make it). I'd sooner drink anything from Milwaukee Brewing Co. or Lakefront Brewing Co. than anything from New Glarus.

DIRTY BASTARD
August 30th, 2012 at 5:58 PM ^
Dogfish head variety 12-pack (not all to be consumed tonight) or some Ommegang Three Philosophers once my roller hockey game finishes up. So goddamn excited for some football!
August 30th, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
Ommegang does not get nearly enough love in these drinking threads. Cheers to you my good man. As for me, I shall be enjoying Bell's Kalamazoo stout and possibly some Centennial IPA from Founder's.
August 30th, 2012 at 5:58 PM ^
I'm starting with a 22oz bottle of Southern Tier PumKING. After that, it's a selection of various other pumpkin brews. I love this time of year. Probably end it with a 22oz bottle Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin.
I love World of Beer Altamonte Springs and World of Beer Orlando !!!

New Belgium 1554 Enlightened Black Ale.
Now if someone wants to brew up some 1997 Enlightened Maize and Blue Lager (some sort of late summer or fall seasonal with a touch of blueberry, maybe) or some such, I'd be all over that... As long as it's not Wild Blue. That crap is, well, crap. I've had some quality berry craft brews and they're awesome when done well.

In Florida.
