What are the main reasons you give someone -1 or +1 on MGoBlog???

Submitted by InRichRodWeTrust on
I am new to MGoBlog. I would like to know what everyone’s criteria is because I have got a lot of +1's when I didn't think I should have got them and -1's for reasons I can not figure out. Sorry that this is not a sports related question, but it is related to MGoBlog.

If it makes me laugh, +1 If I agree with a point, +1 If I disagree but somebody seems to have their facts and what not straight, +1 If I disagree and can tell the poster is just talking out of their ass, -1 I'd be lying if I haven't negged someone in a retaliatory manner. As a matter of fact I just did about three minutes ago. I don't do this a lot though. Other things I neg for: people who post on a subject that may have been repeated just to make token sarcastic "oh there aren't any other threads like this" type comment.....people that want you to know they are annoyed with something but had to tell you instead of just clicking somewhere else....stuff like that.

I never neg anyone (even if I disagree). If i were to, it would be because of something absolutely absurd or trollish. Even then, most people beat me to it anyway. Positives go to insightful or funny commentary.

I negbang frequently when people don't use proper grammar. For example, you said "criteria is" instead of "criteria are". As a result, I had to negbang you. Also, if anyone ever disagrees with me, even once, I will negbang all their posts/comments from here until the end of time. Welcome to the board!

+1's are handed out for: - Funny post. - Post I see that echoes my thoughts and puts it better, more clearly, or more succinctly than I did or would have. - Well-thought-out analysis of something that needed it. Generally, make me see something in a light that I hadn't considered, and I will +1. -1's are handed out for: - Any post that would fit right in as a Youtube comment, whether because the viewpoint is thought out extremely badly or because the grammar and syntax renders the post nearly incomprehensible. - Going above and beyond in the realm of dickitude or hypocrisy. - Trolling. Just so as to make sure they stay below 20. - Starting the third thread on a topic. +1's are not handed out for: - "Marshall, you're so funny man, you should be a comedian god damn." - Something I agree with but it's not out-of-the-ordinary quality. -1's are not handed out for: - Being a dick if I started it. - Minor English errors. (You have to actively not care what your post looks like in order for me to neg it.) - Starting the second thread on a topic, unless it's really egregious.

for not labelling posts OT. Also talking about mgopoints. During the olympics I found myself trying to support Canada and Canadian posters on here who were getting negbombed for not supporting USA. +1 for all pro Canada posts or obvious cases of Mgohate where non-USA opinions were getting negbombed. For saying this, I do expect to get negbombed. Go Canada! edit: also -1 for posts that are 'yeah i agree' or 'wtf' or similarly short posts that add nothing to the board other than an extra post to scroll through.

+1 if I agree -1 if someone is trolling or says "Oh here it comes!" when someone posts a duplicate post. Toward the direction of 0 if someone is undeservedly being pos or neg banged.

I usually give everyone a +1 for posts that are informative and/or give me a good laugh. Normally, I will only neg someone who is being disrespectful or exhibiting signs of troll-like behavior. I enjoy the diversity of opinions, and frankly, that is what makes this blog so great.

i +1 for outstanding info, analysis and opinion. in fact, i'll look for other posts that person posted and +1 those as well if the content provided in any one post is deserving of more than just one point. +1s for humor, good info, analysis, and legitimate questions are also in order. i -1 if someone is obnoxious (not to be confused with sarcastic) for no good reason, if the post has some sort of grandiose proclamation with no support (e.g. "RR should be fired because he's not a real michigan man"), if the poster didn't take the obligatory 5 seconds to use acceptable english or if the post is in direct contradiction to the rules brian has asked us to follow.

Generally I give +1's for funny and/or intelligent posts, even if I don't totally agree with the point. I'll +1 people who speak highly of ND, MSU, or even OSU if they do so coherently and with a sense of reality. I'll neg-bang someone who just starts stuff, who is trolling, or when my position in the MGoPoints hierarchy is challenged.

In the rare occurrences that I do neg someone, it is usually due to poor grammar/spelling or talking out the ass. Often times this goes hand in hand. I understand this is the internet, but this is a Michigan blog, so I think we are held to a higher standard. As such we should all be able to communicate clearly.

I typically don't neg people because I don't like getting negged...the little voting statistic thing would probably support that. Either way, sometimes when I'm short on time, I only skim a thread and read the points that have gotten + points already because those posts are likely good. Usually, I + those after reading them.

+1 -Funny shit -Informative posts -In-depth analysis -Recruiting info -Well stated opinions -Other shit -1 -Being a jerk (Ex: em0) -Horrible grammar (Ex: em0) -Trolls (Ex: em0) -Attention seekers (Ex: em0) -People who respond to a post with simply "LOL" or some other board polluting filler rather than simply giving a +1. -Other shit

The people I don't neg or pos are the ones who make the "let the negbanging commence" or "bring on the negs" type posts too. Those are annoying.....crap I just broke one of my own rules.....oh well whatever bring on the negs. I mean...eh...

Within five years, some kid is going to be named Posbang by his MGoCrack-obsessed parents. He may end up winning the Heisman at Michigan.

I +1 for the following reasons: -Made me Laugh -Made a great point or argument -Made a well reasoned argument that I might not agree with but adds to the overall quality of discussion. -When a post gets negged for stupid reasons I neg for: -Stupid comments that add nothing to the discussion -Hate speech and whatnot -Adding comments that have no value (For this reason, I sometimes neg myself too. Double edged sword.)
