What the 49er fanbase is saying

Submitted by elhead on

This is a wonderful read from 49ers.com, meaning the Comments section below the article and other Niner-related links.

Man, there are some pissed off people in 49er Nation, a whole lot of them. A cursory look at this says the sentiment is going about 20 to 1 in support of Harbaugh. They know that we're getting the best, and many call on the management to be fired and even for the sale of the team.

49ers fans are right.  I feel sorry for them.  They are as pissed as I was when David Brandon started being David Brandon.

They know that the owner and GM should have subjugated their egos, given Harbaugh everything he wanted and shut up.  Instead, they made the situation untenable for a coach who had won more games in the previous three years (41)  than the franchise had won in its previous seven years (39).

Their loss is our gain.  Thanks to Baalke and York for being some of the dumbest people to ever run a franchise (after WCF and the senile version of Al Davis).

Yeah see NOT Tom Brady I THINK the OP put it there as a point of interest, so Michigan fans could see how fans of JH's former team feel about him, about  losing him, and about the type of coach we're getting.

I don't believe his primary concern was for how Lions fans will feel. When thinking of things Michigan, try to realize that it's a national fanbase, not regional like the Lions.

I'm a diehard SF Giants fan. I'm a diehard Michigan fan. I don't give 2 shits about the Lions. I've mentioned a couple times on this blog the past couple weeks, as Harbaugh fever bloomed, that I vividly recall the Harbaugh-Schwartz set-to that got LOTS of people on this site cussing JH, calling him douchbag etc, forgetting his Michigan roots. So conflating Lion fandom with Michigan fandom can lead to some bad decisions.

I still dont understand how you let JH go.  The only kinda comparable I can think of is when Jerry Jones got rid of Jimmy Johnson.  I dont remember the details but it was a similar stupid decision.  And similar type of ownership.

I have zero compassion for the 49er fan base however being a Lion fan.  I'd kill for one 5 year period of success like they have had.

As a life long Michigan and 49ers fan, its def bittersweet.  JH is going from my fav NFL team to my fav College.  Haraugh will make this team truly a physical football team, the only thing im worried about is having greg roman as an OC, he tends to be very predictable play caller with lacks creativity.

Good. The people running that organization deserve to get fired. Harbaugh took them from mediocrity to perennial playoff/super bowl contenders and then they drove him out of town. Personally I couldn't be happier that they did.

Harbaugh.

The 49er fans remember where they were before Harbaugh came along and took them to 3 conference championships and the super bowl.  He truly restored that franchise and their ego-driven management has the gall to run him out of town...  I'd be pissed too if I was a 49er fan.  Luckily I'm not and I can just revel in the glory of getting a great coach with a history of turning programs around.  GO BLUE !!!

Jim looked tired and withdrawn.  I'm sure this has been a year he did not expect, some good, some bad.  Certainly wish him nothing but success here, yet I hope he also is or will be at peace with the events that have transpired.  Couldn't be easy to deal with that pressure cooker for so long.

Saw it mentioned earlier so I took the trip over to 11w to see for myself. They They are supremely confident in urbz. Some are flat out shitting on JH while others are happy with having a respectable 2nd place team til JH leaves to go back to the pros.

Was not worth the trip. Hopefully this helps keep you away.

Both coaches have met and exceeded all reasonable expectations.  The difference is, now we have a coach from whom we can expect the same.

We might not meet them, but once Harbaugh is announced we can reasonably expect to be on and maybe a smidge above their level again - not right away, but Harbaugh's Judgement Cometh, And That Right Soon.

Yea, Oline was playing musical chairs this year. Hell one game we were down to a 3rd string center because 1 and 2 got hurt. Other thing is we stopped running the zone reads and doing all these weird power run gimmicks that seem to be successful in the past. This year the Niners looked like a basic offense boring offense. A lot of people wanted Greg Roman's head because of that. That being said we don't need a GERG on O, so hope he doesn't follow Harbs.

I've heard that no small part in the change in offense came at the direction of management worrying about preserving the value of their newly signed QB, which is kind of silly b/c you don't build an offense around a Kapernick if you aren't willing to risk QB hits.

Amazing how personality issues can destroy what should have been a win-win for the 49ers and Harbaugh. Douchebaggery on the part of the 9ers front office is what sank this ship. The fans have every right to be pissed.

I have some friends who are fans of both the 49ers and OSU and are running through a while ream of rationalizations and criticisims of Harbaugh. Their crow tastes delicious already.

Niner fan here. I go on the 49ers forums a lot and they are pissed/ upset. We all knew what we had there was pretty special barring the crazy amount of injuries this year. I don't believe the 49ers will take a big hit like you would think but it will hurt not having him. We're about to lose a lot in FA but we also have people waiting in line from past drafts. That's why we had an A+ draft this year was because we filled holes that they thought potentially would be missing for next season. I don't think all is lost in San Fran. I am super happy that Harbs is happening though... he belongs in AA!!

I tend to agree. As a Niners fan, I'm confident we have a pretty good group of guys coming back next year, plus - hopefully- we will return most of the guys we lost to significant injury. Granted, I'm bummed to see Harbaugh leave the Niners and am selfishly happy to have him at UM. But I think there's a lot of hope for SF, and a solid coaching hire could sustain what Harbaugh has built.

In a nutshell, that is the tenor of about 95% of the comments on the 49ers official page, so let's just embed this:

On a general note, the rampant accusations of organizational incompetence in the 49ers front office seem entirely founded at this point, and it looks like we benefit from it. I can live with that.

They fired THIS guy:

"During his tenure, the 49ers won two NFC West titles, reached the NFC Championship game in three consecutive seasons and advanced to Super Bowl XLVII. Harbaugh is the only coach in the history of the NFL to lead his team to the conference championship game in each of his first three seasons, and his 44 regular season coaching victories rank second in the NFL during his four-year tenure with the 49ers."

I cant read that and then imagine firing the guy that helped make that happen

I have a friend that's a 49ers fan that is furious they'd get rid of a coach that was as successful as Harbaugh.  He thinks they should have dumped the GM and gave Harbaugh what he wanted.
