Shoot this is an incredible development if proven true. Like many here I'm not a big fan of adding Rutgers, but I could see adding Syracuse and Maryland would actually be welcomed.

If we could just add ND and either Syracuse or Maryland on top of Nebraska, I like where we're going with this!

do we get to vacate any wins they had in the ACC/B10 challenge and look to see if we actually get a win for the conference? Better yet, give us a win  in any games they played in and then re-evaluate.

This is not as crazy as it sounds! I've seen Penn State games from the 80's on the B10s greatest games!

Before today, I would have said there's as much chance of Maryland leaving the ACC as Tom Izzo leaving EL. I don't know what the hell to think any more. The world is flying apart at the seams.

..in my underpants, singing "Whaaaaat the fuck oh, what the fuck-is-going-on!!! ?" over and over in my best operatic solo.

No, wait. That is what I want to do.

I thought the point of conferences was to have teams in close proximity of each other play and get those local rivalries going and allow fans to travel to the games. This is all thrown away so some stuffed shirts can dig their snouts even deeper into the cash troft.  I hate it. Notre Dame, ok makes sense. Syracuse, Rutgers and Maryland don't belong in a midwest conference. Same goes for the Pac 10 expansion, While we're at it B.C. has no business in the ACC and South Florida, DePaul,Cincinnati, and Louisville shouldn't be in the Big East. Oh well,..can't fight the system.

living in the North East. However, there is no way MD is leaving the ACC and all of their respective basketball rivalries.

I think they'll leave for the right price, but their rivalry with Duke is epic and would be hard to just drop.  Of course, they could simply schedule it as an ongoing OOC game, which would ratchet up excitement for the meeting every year.  I agree that it would be tough for MD to leave the ACC, but no impossible if it could line the AD's pockets.

That's true, but the big difference is that Maryland has actually won some meaningful games against Duke in the past, and would still be considered a true "rival" to Duke.  Heck, this year they had the same ACC record as Duke and split the conference title.  That is far more than MSU has accomplished recently.

I'm pretty sure MaizeandblueDevil will agree with me, Duke alums/fans don't give a shit about Maryland.  Actually, it's more like Michigan/PSU except let's pretend PSU won the 2005 game against Michigan.

Duke enjoys beating Maryland, but yeah.  Not.  A.  Rival.

But people need to take it with a grain of salt.  That includes me; Lord knows I'm guilty of it too..

(My original post came off as dickish, so my bad.  I had an American Bulldog barking at me to go outside, and I cut my thought short lest I have to clean up a pond of dog pee)>

Didn't take it as such at all.  I'm just interested in verifying it.

On the Syracuse side, it's all quiet on the western front.  No one is saying anything at all.

I don't know what this means, but in my opinion Syracuse has played this whole thing professionally.  But it's gotten eerily quiet.  There was a rumor earlier today before any of this "report" that said that SU had been communicated a conditional offer contingent upon Notre Dame accepting.

This makes sense for a number of reasons: 1) Rutgers leaving does nothing to the Big East, 2) Syracuse leaving will break up the Big East, 3) Syracuse has been a good partner, including the additional 10-year series they've signed, and 4) ND's administration sees SU as an academic counterpart more than any other candidate.

That said, who knows.  No one on the hill is saying anything right now, and the Syracuse Post-Standard has been pretty silent on speculation and reporting anything, which I believe is upon direction from SU.  If we do hear something to confirm, it's probably not coming from Syracuse.

... it's Nebraska first, then everyone else...

Seriously, football-wise, Nebraska is better than all these schools put together...

But the story may get Notre Dame off of his high horse and make a decision.  Note the story was sourced from Indiana.

It's Delany playing Swarbrick like a drum.

then expansion will be purely about the money.  That's what's happening with the Pac 10 and it's happening here.

Nebraska:  Tradition, people will watch.

ND:  National following.  A lot of haters watch, too.

MD:  D.C.

Rutgers + Syracuse:  NYC (at least that's what they're hoping)

All the schools are going to make a lot of money from this.

...groups of schools.

This guys says it's Nebraska (already offered) plus Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri and Notre Dame with Missouri offer contingent on Texas accepting.  As reported by orangebloods.com, Texas and TAMU are meeting tomorrow to review their options.

If we feel that we need to get to 16 teams and be ahead of the curve I think those are the best teams.  Add ND, and secure a strong east coast presence with 3 teams on the Atlantic.  Those teams would help us with the big city markets of Baltimore, D.C., New York, etc...
