I guess we should of saw that one coming. It makes me mad though. Even if we have had a few bad years we are still Michigan and it's an 8:00pm kick on Halloween weekend in the middle of Big Ten play. Maybe Rich Rod has some more bulletin board material?
Were not good enough for Penn St now!
I think they should probably have a white out for every home game after they go to Tuscaloosa . . .
Kind of a crazy idea, but what if we wore "throwbacks" to the early seventies, when we had white pants and our away jerseys didn't have a bunch of goofy stripes all over them? It'd be a nice way to show them what we think of their lack of a white-out, especially if we kick the crap out of them.
Is going to be full, and I'd hate to have to be anyone to feel the fury coming from Michigan once the season starts...
Well I guess we'll just have to beat them and make them feel stupid...
They will blame the loss on the fact that they didn't have a "White House". According to them, there is always a catch when they lose to us.
catch when they lost to us was from Manningham.
The PSU decision-makers might want to take a look at the ESPN decade-o-thon that Brian just posted, reacquaint themselves with Henne to Manningham, and reconsider whether or not that doesn't still sting. With a divisional split of the conference, they might not get another chance for a White House against Michigan for several years. And did the drubbing in '08 against Threetidan really assuage all their pain?
If Michigan is 7-0 (or even 6-1) going in, which is certainly possible, they'd better buy a lot of bleach.
Perhaps they're more concerned with their level of play than their opponent's.....
I'm thinking of making the road trip out for that game - any advice on eateries and dealing with fans in Happy Valley?
when it gets closer to gameday. I might be able to help. Bottom line is College Ave before the game, and win or lose stay out of the bars after the game unless your with some dedicated Nits fans.
Should Start a Black Out
The boys and I are going to road trip it out there as well. Should be amazing!
Is that embarrassing to any body else?
Not yet, but it will be pretty embarassing come Halloween after we smack the shit out of Penn State with them completely overlooking us.
... it will be embarrassing to them.
we dominate the series for a decade, they win a couple in a row, and now we're not worthy of the locals wearing some white t-shirts? Man, I know it's a broken record, but the season can't get here soon enough ...
we're or we are would suffice.
PSU has some of the most delusional and insecure fans on the face of the planet. My parents a block M flag flying off their house and the entire town knows them as them "Those Michigan people". The flag has been vandalized repeatedly. Most notably after the Super Mario catch. You just learn to ignore them and move on.
You are, in fact, alive and well then?? Or are you writing this from a flotation device somewhere off the coast of Pyonyang??
Shoe, stand by to mobilize the Coast Guard...
Say what you will about North Korean labor camps, but we have kick ass broadband. I'm hoping the pirated BTN feed is up and running by Sept.
(I a even replied to your comment way back here. I popped up for air when the SNSD Domino's commercial went big.)
Also I take it by your comments about Happy Valley, you are/were a resident of the Keystone State?
We could have totally worked around the stories... the profile would've been about you, not her. Maybe next offseason?
Yes, Keystone State... currently fairly easy to catch a Big 33 game, if that helps, haha
Next season my MGoPoints will have expired ands I'll be nothing. Unless I preemptively break up with her and date a Japanese girl for the future of "Just Met My Future Japanese In-Laws". If you're looking for subjects though, have our glorious leader give you my email and get in touch with me.
I'm from Amish Country in PA, how are those state beer stores treating you?
Doesn't know about MGoBlog. Till you've posted all your stories, and have to start looking for a Vietnamese girl.
MGoShoe was in the US Navy, not the US Coast Guard. If you want real power at sea, your best bet is the Navy, not the Coast Guard.
I don't mind sneaking up on people this year.
SHUT UP, WE GONNA KICK YO ASS!
More like we're too good for Penn State now.
until we put up 500 yards of total offense againt UConn, Denard and Tate combine for 300 yards passing, 4 TDs passing/rushing, and three RBs average over 5 yards/carry, and Taylor Lewan is tossing ends to the ground like gnats (except when they crash inside and Denard reads and keeps for 25 yards).
I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait.
I was thinking about it the other day, and I'm just not buying all this dangerous game with UConn. I think we run all over them, even worse than against Western last year. Over by the third, with lots of messages sent out across the landscape.
Wow, I hope you are right. UConn should be a solid team. In the old days I would be confident but I will take any win over a solid team at this point. I would be happy with a one-point win over UConn on a missed FG. Anything to get the win.
She says she feels like they were the smuggest, most self assured jackholes on the planet when they first petitioned for entry into the Big Ten. I'm starting to think it's less self assurance, and more of an inferiority complex. I mean, really, green and white and blue and white aren't very far apart.
What do JoePa and a 3 story colonial home in Ann Arbor have in common?
Lloyd Carr owns both of them.
You, sir, are amazing. I'm sure you didn't come up with that one on your own but it's a great joke.
Also, I thought you were swimming with some fishes in the Pacific possibly with concrete blocks chained to your legs.
Maybe they anticipate the need to wave them rather than wear them.
I sort of get the logic, but it's pretty arrogant to say that not even one home game per year is special enough to deserve full on fan support. PSU can say this is about UofM's subpar performance the past two years, but I believe it is as much about PSU's expected level as anything.
UofM has owned PSU since they joined the conference in 1995. Most "experts" have PSU coming in 3rd or 4th in the conference this year with UofM coming in anywhere from 5th to 7th. If it turns out UofM's defense is much improved, UofM could actually enter this game as the favorite or pull an upset. Maybe PSU should be considered the arrogant school from now on.
about it now because we owned them for so long. I often get the "paybacks with lots of interest" comment when I call them out about it.
Whenever it's a student, you just tell 'em the last time UM lost back-to-back to Penn State they were in their parents' basement yelling It's Morphin' Time! or somethin' like that, and they usually just shut up or curse.
I suspect that that they know the Michigan game is the only one potentially worthy of their precious "White House." They've got a crappy home schedule, and a nasty road schedule this year.
I think they're holding the Michigan game open for a White House, assuming that Michigan has proven itself worthy. (It is a night game, after all, when I think the White House effect is particularly impressive.) Bless 'em for not diluting these things with more than one per year. If Michigan appears competitive a week or two before the game, they'll give us our due.
And we'll do more than appear competitive, I reckon.
It isn't very often when "crappy" and "nasty" are antonyms
What I'm hearing from PSU alum sources is that the Iowa loss stung...bad They don't want to have another Whiteout Loss and be 0-2 in the last 2 years. Suddenly the Whiteout isn't so scary anymore.
Make no mistake they know that this year could (and will) be a return to asswhippings by a Wolverine.
That may or may not be the actual reasoning behind the decision. However, the quote in the article suggests that Michigan isn't an important enough game for the PSU fanbase to White House. That's why we're all taking them to task. I think there are two options here.
1. The PSU is really that arrogant and think Michigan is going to get stomped this year by them like in 2008.
2. The PSU fanbase is insecure as you said, and is covering for that insecurity with arrogance.
Option #1 you have Notre Dame (Brady Quinn era, and last year when they thought they were coming to Ann Arbor to own us by 30, etc.) and Option #2 you have MSU virtually any year. Penn State fans: I'm not sure either of those fanbases is a good choice with which to be affiliated.
I've lived with it my whole life.
I don't understand that at all, but oh well...
Actually, Penn State is one of the bigger road games this year that I think Michigan can win - particularly because it's at night, at PSU and nobody give Michigan or RR a fighting chance.
Let's see how UConn, Notre Dame, MSU and Iowa games play out first, but if Michigan fairs well, then I really like our chances.
probably for the best. after we win, they can say "at least we didn't waste a white out on a loss."
"but if we would have done a white out we would have won"
they did schedule it to be a night game so they obviously think it is something. On the other hand, it will be nice when M goes in there a top-15 team and suddenly the game means oh-so-much and all that, especially since PSU is looking at another 8-4 season and Michigan is going to make a lot of people feel stupid anyway and I'm steaming a little right now because I can't wait until this kind of crap is no longer an issue.
PSU and its fans have short memories - nine straight before the last two anomalies. We'll see what they have to say after this year's game.
If I were a PSU fan, god forbid, I would be annoyed someone was talking like that.
Maybe someone from this site logged in:
"Maybe PSU doesn't want a "White House" this year because they don't have a QB capable of taking them beyond a 7 win season. "
After we beat them this year they will change their tradition to a Black Out.
I am from Pa and let me tell you I didnt hear so much as a peep from a PSU fan in the past, but the last 2 years have been hell for me here. My favorite question to ask the is "What's PSU's record against Michigan in the last 11 games?" Shuts them right up
I really don't care what the Penn state fans are wearing to the game. I care what the end result is - as long as we get back to our annual tradition of beating Penn State, I could care less if the fans are wearing white, pink or blue.
Also, this will be a tough game for us - young team, Sat night game in front of almost 110,000 fans - if PSU doesn't want the additional fan hype / potential intimidation of the White House effect, fine by me.
I would be pissed if I attended PSU and found out that I would not get to take part in a white out for a whole season. It is weak.
I will not come there.
Who cares? It's a stupid "tradition" and every other team in the country already has some form of it. It's not unique, it's unimportant, and I could not possibly care any less what Penn State thinks about anything.
