I look forward to kicking anyone's ass.
Well...we're in better shape than Iowa
Stanzi might have blown the last two games of his career, but at least he'll always have America
ROCK, FLAG AND EAGLE!
One of the primary reasons I think RR deserves one more year is that next years team is going to be loaded with talent, depth, and game experience. That is going to help any coach look good and I'd hate to see that Charlie Weis/Willingham effect where everyone thinks the new guy is great because he wins with the old coaches players.
Where we WIN?!?
Also, we didn't really roll over and die out there. We could've, and maybe that would have been more comforting, but our guys fight their a**es off this year at least.
til we beat everyone on our schedule by at least 20 points and go undefeated New England Patriots style ....... but win the big game(national championship). The year will be 2012 with Rich Rod as our coach..........and yes this was a dream I had.
you sound like THE_KNOWLEDGE
THE KNOWLEDGE shall return, he is currently stuck in a worm hole.
NO, just trying to be optimistic.
I had a dream last night that Michigan beat Ohio State today in overtime. So much for that.
Iowa still has the largest truck stop in America. While passing through there on my way to Mexico City I stopped and bought a waterbed, Burrough's Naked Lunch, a Grandfather Clock with an extra long hand, and some Vidal Sassoon conditioner for $27.87. Viva Corn.
Right on the Wisconsin border at I-80, Iowa also has the Amish-run truck stop. It's not the biggest or flashiest, but damn, the food is good. You can also buy muffins the size of a baby's head, and, if you really are into that kind of thing, drop $500 and up on a handmade quilt.
Amish-run truck stop
I'll have to go there. Gotta see it to believe it.
Didn't we say the same thing about Penn State a year ago?
but everyones depth chart on the defense included...Woolfolk, Turner, Dorsey, Emilien Campbell. If we lose Woolfolk, Avery, Crawford, Black, RVB, Demens in the offseason and preseason I'll readjust accordingly, but based on the playmakers they lose and our entire offense( that went up and down the field on them this year) returning they are in for a revenge tour ass kicking.
Revenge Tour '10...no?.....do I hear '11...?
Ya it is amazing after they extended ferentz for so many more years that they would have fallen this far this year. Specially considering they had 26 seniors? Yikes..
We have what? 3 or 4 seniors that play leaving? We ended with the same record and they had 1 more win than us in conference.
It will be nice next year having a quality amount of depth on both sides of the ball, although our D will still be pretty young. But we get Woolfolk back, and Floyd. Although floyd has a lot of work to do if he thinks he is gonna play much. He was horrific when he played man coverage.
I live in Iowa and the story out of Iowa City is Iowa lost a RB commit last weekend after he witnessed a fight in the Iowa locker room after their loss to OSU. It is just a rumor and we know how that goes, but the kid decommitted and committed to Wisconsin. If that is the case, that is a very bad deal for the Iowa program and not something you expect to happen under Ferentz.
Letting recruits into the locker room after a loss.
b/c I'd like a transcript sent to he and his mother if no. Pls cc Zettel
Are all the BHGP commentors yelling for Ferentz' head? Or are they more rational than the freep/mlive U of M fan?
eating their words re: Brian's prediction for Iowa this year.
If I were Brian, I'd set up a job that automatically emails them his prediction and their calling him stupid every morning for the next 9 months.
I checked BHGP's vent thread and was surprised at how many were calling for Kirk's head. Those that are waiting on Kirk want other changes made on the staff. Imagine MGoBoard with a million less mentions of Harbaugh..
I can't believe an Iowa fan could be calling for Ferentz's head. He has turned a pretty historically mediocre program into a relatively solid team year over year. Iowa fans have become spoiled with him and forget they aren't a traditional powerhouse. Iowa is at a serious disadvantage from a recruiting standpoint and should be ecstatic over 8-4 seasons. 7-5 wasn't what they expected but it isn't the end of the world. They just step off the ledge.
He's a good coach, but Iowa's actually been a pretty good program for about 30 years now. Hayden Fry had them right up there with UM and OSU in the 1980s.
Iowa has essentially had an interim DC for most of the season with Parker out for a diabetes-related amputation. No doubt Iowa underperformed this year but not having Parker definitely hurt them. I have to believe they'll be looking for a new DC next year.
Here is a first-pass look at 2011:
|Sep 3||W. Michigan||Win||Baby Seal|
|Sep 10||Notre Dame||Tossup||It's ND. Strange things can happen.|
|Sep 17||E. Michigan||Win||Baby Seal|
|Sep 24||San Diego State||Win||Baby Seal|
|Oct 1||Minnesota||Win||Adam Weber graduates. New coach.|
|Sep 3||@ Northwestern||Tossup||Senior Dan Persa vs. our secondary.|
|Sep 3||@ Michigan State||Tossup||Senior Kirk Cousins. Denard avoids endzone INTs.|
|Sep 3||Purdue||Win||Snake Oil.|
|Sep 3||@ Iowa||Win||Stanzi graduates. Denard throws fewer INTs.|
|Sep 3||@ Illinois||Tossup||Scheelhaase takes the sophomore leap.|
|Sep 3||Nebraska||Loss||T-Magic takes the sophomore leap.|
|Sep 3||Ohio State||Loss||Senior Terrelle Pryor vs. our secondary.|
That is a tally of six wins, two losses, and four tossups: if we split the tossups, 8-4 plus a bowl game. For us to exceed 8-4, our D will have to show substantial improvement.
September 3rd is going to be a busy day
gonna be tough to get up for ND after those 8 games on Sep. 3
Wow, we sure do play a lot of games on Sep 3. Is that like a split squad spring training game?
More practices before the bowl game that way
I can't edit the comment now, so you're stuck with that. Sorry about that.
my b :( lol its okay, we got the picture i think
It all comes down to the defense. If we can be even average, I'll agree with this basic framework. But without a major revamp, any game is a tossup.
Also, Iowa at Kinnick is a Win? Really?
Also, Iowa at Kinnick is a Win? Really?
Totally agree. No game against a quality Big 10 team can be considered anything more than a tossup at best given UM's recent history. Actually, we haven't really been smacking any middle of the road to bad Big 10 teams in the last 3 years either, so, chalking those up as wins is risky business.
Where Northwestern and Illinois are toss-ups is pretty damning.
Man we've really lost our swagger as a fan base. Northwestern is not going to be a toss up and neither is Illinois.
How come no one is willing to believe?
Our line of Martin RVB Black and Roh is going to be the Big Tens best. Demens looked great today and now he has some playing time under his belt for next year. We drop in Woolfolk in outta the sky, the whole secondary will be dramstically better. You make the biggest stride between your frosh and soph years and the between the year you get your 1st experience. These guys will look dramatically different next year. We will have some depth. Don't discount the embarrassment and having RVB, Martin and Woolfolk as our Senior leaders in the offseason.
Oh and our offense will average 50 pts a game next year.
Get on board people. Everyone could see what was going to happen this year. Just trust your eyes you know they will be way better don't let the Valenti attitude weigh you down.
The Valenti attitude is the only way for me to not get pissed off at games. He's damn reasonable with most things.
The reason most people dislike our line is because it's just RVB Martin and Roh
If our defense improves I can easily see 10 wins.
another 5-0 or 4-1 start for us to get carried away about.
I'd argue that SDSU is more of an adolescent seal. Much better than WMU/EMU ...
I'm telling you, I'm nervous about that game.
There I said it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it
This year, NU--not that NU--has 8 seniors on the two-deep on the offensive side, and seven on the defensive side, with 5 senior starters on both sides. A lot of freshmen and redshirt freshmen in the 2-deep. And they lose their senior kicker(s) and punter.
They should be knocked around a bit too, by that time. I would at least designate this a tossup. But your caveat about the defense definitely applies.
Hell, every game (except maybe home v Purdue and the Baby Seals) is a tossup, depending on whether or not the D shows "substantial improvement."
Dammit I'm tired of playing the Michigan directional schools. At least EMU managed to win some games this year.
is not a baby seal. They are actually a quality football team this year (http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/21/san-diego-state-aztecs) with their only losses coming in close games against quality opponents. I would still think we win, but it's definitely not automatic.
WIsky as well. Talking heads said this was their last year before rebuilding
Unfortunately we don't play Wisky next year.
I am in competition against whiskey every year.
Exactly why I, also, like our chances against Wiscy next year.
Our 7 billion - zero win against Minnesota this year was awesome.
Also awesome: Shaft theme music is playing in the background of the Weather Channel right now. Saucy.
First laugh after a very tough day.
So you are saying.....?
