somehow we're only 124th
Efficiency? What about Super Bowl hopes? Nil.
Yeah. They have to find a good replacement now and I don't see one out there. Welker fit the mold perfectly. That he's gonna be catching balls from Peyton pisses me off.
Amendola and their own in Julian Edleman. There are options. May be a notch below but they have options.
Edelman did a good job, but Welker has been so smart in his route running and he always seemed to find holes in the D just at the first down marker.
Now, if only he could make the big catch in the big game...
Is Tim Dwight still available?
I'm a 5'9" white guy... So you're saying there's a chance!
Steve Breaston. I'd be very happy if that happened.
NE offense is predictated on option routes from WRs/TEs especially at slot WRs. Welker excels because of his ability to make correct decisions in route runnings which is why he's almost always open.
I'd love it. I'd also love Brady to Breaston. I just don't see either happening. I did see a report that Cribbs was a possible target. I'd be ok with that, too.
I wouldn't mind Brady to Vincent Smith, either. With the exception of his skin pigment, Smith fits most of the standard "white receiver" stereotypes.
And actually playing reciever in college
2 years and $12 million? Seems pretty reasonsble - I can't believe that the patriots didn't match that offer.
Didn't he make like 9 last year?
Yeah. There had to be more to it. The money was there. I heard there was some tension between McDaniels and Welker.
I agree. There has to be another aspect to this decision, if that is the deal he is accepting. It could also be a respect thing - maybe he felt that the patriots were not giving him as much respect as the two TEs despite his phenomenal numbers. The franchise tag, limiting him in some of the early games last year etc. might have contributed to this decision.
I thought Denver needed defense and they reached their cap limit with WR and OL. These guys will certainly help Manning, but did anybody else see the safety Buckner the Ravens game?
Yes, but actually, that guy was playing really well all season. What Denver needs is a starting RB and perhaps a mammoth NT
They had a pretty good running back a few years back but the guy kept trying to throw the ball...
Belicik running everybody off just like always. Brady wanted him around, Kraft wanted him there for life, Brady restructured his contract to give the team money back. It's all about business to Bill, though. He only caught 118 passes last year, averaging a first down each time. Now Peyton can have 3x 1,000 yard receivers returning next year.
Peyton Manning does love his white receivers out of the slot. Great signing!
Denard to the Patriots in the 2nd round.
Fact: The Patriots would be come my "new team", after years of being a Dolphins fan, if they picked up Denard Robinson.
For the record, I am a huge Pats fan and I'm pissed that this happened. I can only hope that they know something everyone else doesn't. They've been good at building through free-agency and the draft, both, so we'll see when the time comes.
I sure hope so! I'm very upset w this news unless they can find something better. And to Manning no less...ugh.
Think of all the Patriots players who signed free agent deals only to not play up to the expectations.
I wouldn't be too worried about the Patriots they have been the most consistant team in the NFL the past 10-15 years.
Even more of a reason to bring in Denard now. He's a solid 3rd-4th round pick that Belichek can bring in as a potential replacement for Welker and be yet another X-factor in that Patriot offense. And having the best QB in the NFL throwing to him will automatically him better.
a slot with better speed and size, but not the craftiness. I think they'll draft a speedster like Swope or Tavon.
Denard is not a wild idea as Bill likes tough, versatile guys. DR also lets them take a safety in Rd 1 and DR in a subsequent round.
draft Denard - plug him into the slot and he can become Brady's favorite target. No need to panic.
Danny Amendola I think could become a big thing for the Pats. He's flown a bit under the radar but shown flashes of brilliance and New England seems to get the most out of those type of players. Still must hurt a lot to lose Welker.
After you posted this, it was announced that the Pats just picked him up. YOU ARE A WIZARD.
Being a NE fan im sad to see him go, Brady and him are best friends not just teammates..good luck Welker, u did a lot for the Pats
As a Broncos fan, all I have to say is FUCK YYYEEEEAAA!
They just seem to discard and plug in players, acquire draft pics to acquire more draft picks, but they don't really seem like they're building anything. You think they'd be going all out with a QB and coach on the backend of their careers, but seem to be treading water.
Sooner or later they're going to regret not cashing in.
I know Brady has actually started to express frustration with them constantly rolling back picks for next year.
Five years, 31 million, 10 million guaranteed.
For those math majors, his average year will be 6.2 million a year. Welker is getting 6 million a year for only two years. More money over more years (I know he's younger, but he hasn't done what Welker has in his career), I can't help but wonder if this is Belichick making a point?
I wonder how Tom feels?
I hope that's the case. If Amendola comes in and puts up Welker-type performances, we'll have a pretty good idea why the Pats were willing to let Wes go. For Tom's sake, I hope they hook him up with another quality receiver in the draft. They owe him some spending on his receivers for once. I'd love it if they were able to drop Lloyd and pick up a Jennings or Cruz.
I'm more interested in the Pats finding some DB's.
Kinda strange the Patriots wouldn't match the offer since it was only two million more than theirs? I think I remember early last year they were giving Edelman a lot of Welkers snaps until it became clear he wasn't able to handle that role.
I think Amendola has potential to be like Welker when healthy but he just can't stay healthy. And Gronkowski and Hernandez are already made of glass.
That's a cruel joke going from Brady to Manning. It's just not cool.
The Amendola deal might have more long term upside to the Patriots, but as a Brady fan I would have preferred matching the Denver deal for Welker as he is more of a proven commodity and has atleast as many years in him as Brady's window for winning another ring (2-3 years).
Fucked that chemistry up now. I dont think there is anyone that can match the chemistry that Wes and Brady had. What a slap in the face for Brady to let Wes go to Manning!
i'm sure someone already said this, i just can't believe NE wouldn't match 2yr/12 million..
