It's back! I'm not sure what to do without it...
September 22nd, 2014 at 2:00 AM ^
I was checking back every few minutes while watching the Breaking Bad marathon. I now resume my regularly scheduled Sunday night MGoBlog reading.
September 22nd, 2014 at 2:06 AM ^
i thought the site was down because of some breaking news about hoke resigining in shame which crashed the server. i was sad to find out it was some other network glitch.
September 22nd, 2014 at 2:10 AM ^
I had the exact same thought. Surprisingly, while I have been railing on that hoke should be fired, then beaten, then fired again just for good measure, I was actually sad for him, as I think he is a genuinely good guy.

It's time this coaching staff and athletic department take responsibility for our beloved blog being down. What will their excuse be this time? Fire Brandon. Fire Hoke. Pay the Harbaugh brothers the entire endowment to coach and run the department. Then finally we can click and read and comment and vote without worrying whether or not the site will be here when we hit F5 30 seconds after posting.

"Well mgoblog came out ready to play, they were well prepared. Well Mgoblog had a good week of practice. Well I think the intensity was there but we lacked in some areas that im not responsible for. Well."
September 22nd, 2014 at 2:36 AM ^
I think it's kinda funny that of all the times for the site to go down it was today. I think Brandon and Hoke got tired of all the shit talking lol.
September 22nd, 2014 at 6:08 AM ^
Now Brandon however, somewhere in his marketing staff is the "what are they saying on blogs" person. And in that person's desk is an untraceable throwaway cell phone. If Brandon gives the nod the staffer calls a number and says "mgoblog" which launches a denial of service attack ...

So is Brandon quartering players in our homes now? I would willingly take a couple if it bothers you so much.
So, CALM DOWN AND QUIT YELLING.

We need this black hole as a repository for the sturm und drang of angst and humiliation caused by the football program and the AD.

I thought Brian must be working on that big site upgrade that was rumored to be done by the beginning of the season.
September 22nd, 2014 at 6:46 AM ^
I actually had the same thought for a moment, and late on a Sunday evening probably would be the best time to do it if that were the case, but then I was reminded that the word now is that the update will come sometime early next year. I don't know if the delay was explained specifically. Seems like it was just planned maintenance or a random outage.

Site back up. Had a full disk that was causing SQL to barf.
— mgoblog (@mgoblog) September 22, 2014
Sounds like it was a server problem or something (I don't speak fluent computer) on his end.
To be honest, I would've been pretty surprised if he did a big upgrade during the season. Website traffic is really high now, and I don't think he'd want to risk a lot of down time unless the upgrades were desperately needed (or he'd at least wait until a bye week, when traffic tails off a bit)
September 22nd, 2014 at 9:44 AM ^
sounds like it was a full disk. When disks are full, computers start to do weird things. Try filling yours sometime! Here is a handy python program to do just that:
September 22nd, 2014 at 10:17 AM ^
if we're talking about SQL and full disks, its an issue in at least one obvious way. Any transactions requested in the program have to get written to the SQL transaction log which then writes to the actual primary database file. To accommodate this, SQL usually has a built in autogrow feature make sure those ldf and mdf files have a enough room to write these transactions. This autogrowth can be set to anything from a few mb to gb, so if there's not a enough space left for that, anything in the application that requires sql is gonna have a problem, either with general performance as it struggles to find more room on the disk, or a straight up erroring out failure if there literally is no space left.

For using that new fangled SQL spread like Database instead of something tried and true like Jet. /s

Watch me shut off the Michigan internet...

In other late breaking news, apparently, one of the consequences of MGoBlog's having been down last night was that almost all of the posts in Sunday's Posbang Thread were DOWNVOTED. Considering the subject of so many post-Utah threads, could the site have been "Hoke Hacked" by a downvoter with a grudge? Was Roll Damn Tide/Wolverine In A Bag lurking and waiting for an opportunity to pounce on threads to downvote every post? Has anyone called for a Congressional investigation?

Me too.
He gave up all worldly cares and became a monk in Bhutan. They don't get BTN there and ESPN3 is very grainy.
September 22nd, 2014 at 11:02 AM ^
We need to expand the BTN footprint. The Royal University of Bhutan is only 12 years old, but they have a unique game day experience. Older alums will enjoty the visit because of the 22 degree tilt of proposed site of the new stadium, fans must remain seated and belted in during games. It gives new meaning to tired phrases like running downhill.

to see if they knew what big news blew up the blog. I found out it was because Mack Brown was our new coach! How come no one here thought of that?
