Welcome back Bi-Polar Michigan fans! We missed you!
Thank you for this public service announcement.
You mean we're not going to win a national championship this year, and that we're probably going to go something like 7-5/8-4? OMGZZZZ
Of course we're going to win a national championship this year.
Point for the title alone. Love it.
Reading this board right now, I'm pretty sure we deserve to be the first team to win the Tears of Unfathomable Sadness award without actually having lost the game. That hasn't happened before, right?
Boise State won last week during a bye.
In which case, I'm not sure which is sadder - winning the award when you got a win, or winning when you had a bye.
I shall meditate on that as I read this board.
Thank you. +1
I was just sitting down to post the same thing when I saw this.
Missed you like a canker sore...
Wouldn't it be like You miss me like... Cotton Candy.. or Michigan winning football games.
Not you Bouje! Those you mention in the subject...
Amen, we are what we thought we were, no more no less, they will be ready next week. We aren't good enough to be picky about wins yet. Deep breath everyone.
"we are what we thought we were." I don't think anyone thought DR would be that good, or the O-line. And Stonum? Had a great day today. It's just that the offense has taken a great leap forward (perhaps on the shoulders of one player), but the defense has taken a much smaller one - good enough against UConn & ND, not so much against UMass. So, maybe the "improvement gap" is what is causing everyone to complain.
Maybe it would be more precise to say that "the defense is what we thought it was." But even then, there are bright spots. Mouton?
I'd rather have the defense get shreded today against Umass and get a few weeks to learn from it then blow Umass out and get destroyed by state in a few weeks. I'll take the panic.
This is correct.
I believe DR getting pub for his stats is great, but it's no substitute for UM performing well as a whole. When's the last time we had a Heisman winner on a team w/ more than a couple of losses.
Considering we have only had 3 winners its really hard to compare. If Drob keeps it up he wins heisman even if we go 7-5/8-4.
name a heisman winner from any losing team.
We're not a losing team. Unless your trying to say we are going to finish with a losing record.
Tim Tebow 9-4
Bo Jackson 8-4
George Rogers 8-4
Im sure there are more too.
QB, ND, 2-8 in 1956
UF went 9-4 the season Tebow won the Heisman, the fourth loss coming to U-M, of course (after balloting).
Not bad, but they weren't contenders either.
Think you're cool for "calling out" alleged bi-polar UM fans? Think you're making a bold prediction that we'll blow out Bowling Green? No one's talking about Bowling Green. I think that I, and a lot of other rational, educated Michigan fans, are looking ahead to the conference schedule and see NO WAY for this defense, as it's currently comprised and coached, to stop anybody. Period.
So then your predicting a 0 in the win column for big 10 wins?
where I said that, but since you asked, I see 4-5 losses in conference. Because of the defense. Which is a major concern to anyone who knows anything about the great game of football. Which apparently a lot of posters on this blog do.
who was expecting us to win more than 7 or 8 games this year
"I DONT SEE HOW WE CAN STOP ANYONE IN THE CONFERENCE. PERIOD!!!!!!"
If we can never stop them, then we will never win a game in conference. I disagree. Completely. You're an idiot.
You're like George Costanza when he pushes the little kids out of the way during the fire.
that comment was to be taken literally, but it's obvious you're a tool that likes to try to call out disappointed fans in the heat of the moment. Fellow Michigan fans I might add.
Dude, I remember when you first arrived on this board and were a freakin leper. You got shouted down regularly for being such an ass. Then you learned to operate more respectfully and survived your initial carpet bombing. Congrats. Looks like you're back to your old tricks.
I'm calling you out for a fucking stupid comment.
End of story. If you want to bring up my posting history that's fine but ya know what I don't care and anyways I have more points than you therefore my penis is bigger than yours!
(that's what it means right?)
It means you overcompensated for getting the hell negged out of you when you first arrived by dinking and dunking your way to a huge point total.
Riiiiiiight, man. That's what it means. It also means your big penis is located above your neck.
And yes I am a prick/douchebag/asshole/dick head.
Just shut it.
(Though that's one of the many reasons I stay away from Magnus...)
4-5 losses in conference is still really - really - not that bad. I think most of us expected 7-5 or 8-4 and not contending for the Big Ten title this season.
I'd be thrilled with the CapOne bowl this year. Something to build on for next year.
Only in my wildest dreams were we going to improve from a 5-win season to a 10-win season, especially when the back end of our schedule is loaded with the B10's best, and we miss out on two of the biggest cupcakes in the conference.
And they aren't exactly known for their "stout" defense.
This + a lot.
People don't think I am but I am.
You know what happens when you look ahead? You get caught with your pants down. Kind of like Michigan's D today.
...this is the sort of reaction Bouje speaks of...
something Bo said:
"we're going to encourage each other"?
You may have to prove the rational and educated part another way, cause this post isn't cutting it.
Indie rock thread for GY! something E was bs and was not appropriate for today.
Rebut my post if you're going to neg me. Don't be a bitch.
"Rebut my post if you're going to neg me. Don't be a bitch."
I'd just add make it an intelligent rebut. Not just a "you mispelled this" or "you suck" kinda thing.
Why is it not OK to express discontent after watching the team play poorly, but just fine to shower them with non-stop praise when we play well? I understand that fans sometimes get a little bit irrational at times, but the people who are upset about the defense have a legitimate cause for concern and have every right to say so. It isn't time to jump off the deep end yet, but sometimes there just isn't a silver lining no matter how hard you look for one.
Because they were IRRATIONALLY high last week in a last second win against ND and IRRATIONALLY low this week in a win against UMass.
I guess that's just human emotions they are just irrational idiots.
It fine and yes the defense played like crap today, but alot of people are jumping off the deep end. Yes be considered but there is no need to be angry in a win, when we probably played down, and each game is its own.
Agreed. If anything, it seems as if M is pretty much on track to meet "expectations" 7 wins, give or take one. Does anyone else think the make-or-break game will be MSU? It just feels as if a win would take off a lot of a heat. A loss, it seems, would be hard to get past, no?
The next most important game is BGSU, then INDY, then MSU.
Period. End of story.
I concur with bouje. bowling green is the point of emphasis for the next seven days. let's concern ourselves with bgsu and nothing but bgsu.
I love that kind of technical talk. Yes, and this year apparently we're going to have a huge beta as well, which will make for a bi-polar season. Very entertaining.
BTW. U Mass 2-0 coming into AA; BGSU 0-2, playing Marshall tonight. UM should be better next week. If not, then yeah, a long rest of the season.
Or something to do in Finance? I know that you're talking about high beta stocks. :)
Metaphorically. I think we're going to see brilliantly called plays and execution, and also some really boneheaded execution. Comes with a young team who has not played together. Not very profound, but we all should keep that in mind.
Not everyone. There've been a small number of us who've been consistently saying we'll go anwhere from 5-7 to 7-5, and none of that gets a conference championship. The game today, along with UConn's defeat, just confirms that assessment, as least it does to me. We've got a good offense and a bad defense, along with an absolutely miserable kicking game. Eight victories looks like a dream at this point.
I personally see >6 but I can understand 5 but the people on here who say "WE WILL BE LUCKY TO STOP ANYONE AND BE LUCKY TO GET TO 5 WINS" are the scum of the earth. They are pond scum. They are idiots. The lowest of the low.
Scum of the earth huh? Man you are a fucking stupid 12 year old.
I'm a drinking 25 year old who is sick of all of these whiny bitchy Michigan fans.
get the fuck off of here because after your defense gives up 37 points to fucking UMass there are going to be fans bitching.
Now go ahead and round up your "posse" that you've built up here and neg me.
I don't have a posse. Most people don't like me.
You're getting negged because you're being a douche. Get over it.
Can't understand why.
I hope that you're not a fellow graduate of the fine institution whose football team we support, but I fear you are.
I graduated in 2007 with a Chemical Engineering degree and a minor in Economics. I've had season tickets since 2003.
What's your point?
We just saw a letdown on defense. That should be a wake up call to come back down to earth.. After RR said, "This coming week won't be pleasant ", I'll bet we will see a lot better output on D next week.
I couldn't agree more. I just don't understand these people sometimes.
seems like a classic bully to me. Calling folks who don't believe what he does idiots and scum. Wonder what that says about folks that like that sort of thing?
And what does that say about you for you to say that some of the things that I've said are "some of the wisest things I've ever seen said on this board"
and then to say this post.
a crazy bastard. Michigan's season is not helping my condition. All I'm saying is that not everyone's gonna agree with you; you need to respect others and just agree to disagree. There's very little fact on this entire board; it's 99% opinion.
People who think Bouje is wise are truly the lowest of the low. I mean, this kid is just spouting stupid shit and trying to seem boss to his dumbass followers.
What "Stupid shit" am I spouting?
Like I said earlier: IF YOU ARE GOING TO NEG ME AND DISAGREE WITH ME GIVE ME A FUCKING REASON WHY. Don't just say "you are wrong you're an idiot".
Tell me why is what I'm saying "stupid shit and trying to seem boss to his dumbass followers".
When Woolfolk went down I went off on Brian and told him not to give up on this season. When we won the previous 2 games I've been quiet and this week when people are jumping off of a fucking building I'm trying to do some chaos mitigation to try to stay realastic with our preseason expectations.
So please REBUT me. I "anxiously" await your reply.
Sorry if this double post (I hate these darn touchpads!). While emotions run high, people need to keep a perspective.
1) Our offense is good. We will score points on anyone, seriously, even against Iowa, Wisky and those guys just to the south of us.
2) Our defense is not very good - I know this is obvious, but what I am leading to is that there is little margin of error for them. If they come out flat. If they do not properly prepare. If they do not maximize everything they can do to be the best they can be. Then the results are what we just witnessed.
That is the point Rich Rod keeps hammering away on when he says that we are not good enough to take anything for granted.
It could have been just coach speak (I doubt it), but I was happy to hear RR state after the game that it will be a long week for the D
While no one is expecting them to be great, we certianly expect them to put forth a maximum effort each week. Both in preparation for a game and during the game. There is no room for error when it comes to this D. And you can throw in the kickers too with this message...
Rodriguez said a couple weeks ago: "our team isn't good enough yet to play poorly and win"
I'll add to that, "... unless it's against a I-AA team."
Come on, tell me you don't love us and truly miss us. A couple of weeks ago we were ok with going 7 and 5 , last week some of us started smelling roses and hoping for a national championship and a heisman together :D. It's ok though, we're used to Hightower expectations and bi-polorism, it's just the way our fans have fun.
I agree with the prediction for next week. Also I have to give some credit to the umps minutemen, they are pretty athletic, they do have a good QB he should be drafted by the end of this year and they have an acceptable defense. I do have to remind myself that our offense will have to win us games not the defense! It's going to be tough watching Michigan this year, but the fan has to hope to feel better during the games, not feel ashamed when Michigan is on defense. We have to solve this problem.
Anyways, great point, we have to chill out, this was a good lesson for our boys, this should make them stringer for the next 2 games. Even if they decide to drop us from the rankings, I don't care, a win is a win, we are 3 and 0... I'm happy enough, eyeing my goal of 8 and 5 this season... I'll be content with that... Go blue
That's what fans do. No one wants to be calmed down now any more than they did after the UConn or Notre Dame games. We'll go back into rational "What exactly does this mean for the team" mode in a couple days, but for now people just need to yell and scream and freak out for a bit. Trying to tell them to shut up because they're yelling and screaming something different than you isn't going to help.
Just about the only thing that may keep me sane. Again.
That stuff is so much fun to throw in water.
6 wins is "reasonable" now (seen it mentioned several times)?
We're already at 3... With BG next week... Sorry, but if thinking we won't win more than 2 BT games is reasonable I'll gladly stay in the "crazy optimist" camp.
Sometimes I'm amazed by what passes as a "fan".
But Bouje calling people bi-polar is kinda like Paris Hilton calling people slutty.
A spade is a spade and who better to call a spade a spade... than a spade!
And what do you mean by "you people?" ;-P
So it didn't go exactly liked I dreamed but dreams don't always come true. I was having Appy flash backs in the first half so I'm good with the victory. I definitely enjoy watching this team even in a sluggish outing.
It was funny that a couple of days ago somebody posted that he was worried about the next few games, and the general sentiment was that he was overreacting and should stop being a downer. Now, everybody is pushing caution and lowered expectations.
I think the team will recover from this close call, and defensively it looked like the team was just not prepared/did not execute the gameplan properly. With a solid week of coaching, I think they will make the necessary adjustments. And for all of the concern, the team is still 3-0 and won a game ugly. That wasn't the case the past few years. This defense is way too young and inexperienced to be consistent, but as the year progresses I expect to see them grow up and play better. UM is still behind the Iowa/Wiscy/OSU set in the Big 10, but they still should make a bowl game.
but a win is a win. I blame The Knowlege for not having a post this week.
Our D was dominated by Mass all day long. Over and over and over. I'm sorry but Obi and Mouton are not getting it done....at all. It is exactly like last year. Our LB play is absolutely abysmal. I stopped and watched 5 plays during today's game just to watch Obi misplay things and never react properly to running plays. I cannot believe there aren't any instinctive linebackers on that roster. Give me anybody else, Demens, Fitzgerald, damn give me Brandin Hawthorne, I don't care how big he is....at least he can fill a hole. Mouton just isn't consistent, but Ezeh is just not good. That secondary could hold up to be average if we aren't getting gashed by a running game that gives up 5 yds a carry. Just once I want to see Ezeh hit somebody in the hole instead of waiting flat footed to make a tackle 5 yds downfield or completely whiffing. I understand youth in the secondary, but there is no excuse for Obi....please give me the walk on fullback, anyone is better.
I think it's pretty fucking idiotic to assume that the back ups would somehow outperform the starters. The coaches see these guys play day in and day out. They're going to play the guys that give them the best chance to win. You can play armchair quarterback all you want, as long as you realize the coaches know more about football than you ever will and that they actually get to, you know, observe the players on a daily basis instead of basing their decisions on such brilliant statements as 'someone's gotta be better, right?'
We ran the ball 41 times. We only attempted 14 passes. Our main goal on offense was to get the running game going from someone other than Denard. While it would've been nice to rest Denard some and let the other QB's play, essentially, mission accomplished. Did our defense get roughed up? Sure. But one of the marks of good teams is that they manage to win even when they don't play their best. And we managed to do that. We have a couple of weeks to fix the defense before conference play starts. Relax, worriers. Even BMWs need repairs from time to time.
Sports causes people to be irrational. We want to win every game and win every year. However to me thats no excuse and people who constantly bitch are constantly annoying. Yes, be happy when they win. Yes, be disappointed when they play poorly. People need to keep their emotions in check and out of the extremes because after all, you are not a coach and do not play Michigan football.
We're fans. Enjoy Michigan football losers.
