Weis Critical of B10 Officials
Weis has decided to let his concerns on the officiating be known.

Weis failed to mention that the officials flagged us mercilessly in the first half. I wonder why considering his objective appraisal of everything else???

Weis had better be careful. He has MSU this week and I believe the Big 10 will be officiating the game.

What does he think he is going to accomplish? As bad as Michigan was jobbed by the time keeper in East Lansing AND the game when Desmond Howard was tackled at the goal line for an obvious PI, bitching about it did not change the final scores. So Weis better get over it - Game over Charlie! Bet the ND fans that really understand football see this as a distraction before another tough game. If "Irish" reads this it would be interesting to get his take.

There should be a number of complaints about the officiating. The number of holding infractions by the ND OL that weren't called should be embarrassing for the B10 officials. The second to last ND TD probably doesn't happen if the mugging on Graham is properly called. The PI against Cissoko gets offset when ND was backed up to the own goalline when Sam Young grabs Roh by the collar. And there are many others.
The officiating wasn't perfect, but it was bad both ways.

Also, the pass to Rudolph that got called back because Young "held" Roh was probably a bad call. Roh was practically falling already after the chip block. Young's hands were outside the frame of Roh's body, but it wasn't an egregious hold. That was a big play, in my opinion, because Rudolph made a nice catch and run.

This issue with that call was that all the umpire saw from behind was Young grabbing Roh outside the frame of his body and twisting him down. He would not have had the advantage of the multiple angles that were on the replay. From what he would have seen it looked like an obvious violation.

I noticed the bad calls that went against Michigan, not that I'm unbiased. When I left the game, I was thinking that M won despite some calls going against it. When I got home and heard about the Irish complaining about the officiating I was surprised.

Since it was the Big Ten officials who told Charlie if he didn't go for two consecutive passes in an obvious late-clock-killing situation, they would penalize them.

Consecutive pass plays were not the problem. The bomb on second down instead of a higher percentage pass was the problem, especially with Armondo (spl?) Allen out of the game.

Okay, so the foot out of bounds might have gone our way. But the alleged interference went both ways. Unless you want to be ultra technical and call interference on both players, slowing the game to a halt and making the officials more obstructive, you let them play. I can understand the objections up to this point. Weis may have had a claim on the foot out of bounds and I can even understand why he wants maximum protection for his receivers (though classier coaches won't broach the subject).
But the rest of the ramble was pure drivel. Might want to consider preparing a statement next time on a sensitive subject. I was not the only one to see no calls on obvious holds against Brandon Graham. You just can't go there. Those calls go both ways.
The worst part of the ramble was the feeling that officiating is a zero sum game. Either we get the calls or you get the calls. That's exactly the wrong approach. Officials aren't suppose to "give you" calls. They have to be as objective as possible. I know that's impossible, as officials are human beings. But if you don't strive for that goal, what's the point of having officials in the first place? You might as well have the home team's coach call the penalties.

didn't it seem like more time should have been taken off of the clock? It appeared that it took at least three seconds from the time the player touched the ball until it went out of bounds.

the entire game last night and made a point to look for these calls. This is BS. The complaint about his receivers getting smacked around should be met with, "your receivers need to STFU and play football." Tate and Floyd mocked and talked sh*t to BooBoo and Warren all game. I hope the B10 crew lets him have it before his game with Sparty.
