Really hope Ryan Glasgow is healthy. If Glasgow has a bad injury, it will really hurt our chances the next three weeks as he is arguably the most important player on the defense. I love Hurst, and Henry, but Glasgow is a vital piece to this defense.

One player was caught by the ncaa, one was not.  ncaa has no power in handing out suspensions for a dui, that is between the school to decide and the police on how they prosecute.  The ncaa might suck but this isn't hypocricy on their part, just a matter of jurisdiction.

but it is not the 1950's, yet the NCAA is all about "Reefer madness" still ?  One essentially is underage, drunk and driving a dangerous weapon.  The other guy probably walked to get cookies and milk to cure his munchies.

Pot does not equal HGH ... and the NCAA should stay away from any enforcement action on ANY individual.

Is anyone else worried about our FB depth next year? Poggi isn't what you would call a true FB. I think Shallman is going to have move over. Would be really really nice if Kingston Davis could move over to FB and contribute in year one.

I discussed this with Kingston's father a few mionths ago (we used to work together for the DoD). LC was mystifed as to how mgoblog has projected Kingston as a FB and stated strongly that there's no way he plays FB. He visted Nebraska last weekend BTW.

I'm not the type to just rely on"cross fingers, hope the coaches turn a guy into a genius." Yes, the coaches are good, but you can't just turn someone into a player they are not. I'm concerned about next year's LB corps, for example.

That said, this is one area where I trust the coaches to identify and train a player to be reliable and productive next season. Fullback doesn't require a set of hard-to-find skills; you need to be reasonably big, you need to block well, and you need to know what to block. Unlike height, speed, and athleticism, these are things that can and will be developed and taught.

Makes sense if you think about it--there isn't exactly a slot for a 4-star fullback recruit on most recruiting boards; guys are identified as players and put into place in that spot. I imagine the coaching staff already has an idea who they will try to move and knows exactly what it will take to make them a reliable contributor.

I disagree.

If anything, Harbaugh has used his Fullbacks as dynamically as I've ever seen a fullback utilized.

And Harbaugh's offense will absolutely demand highly athletic and skilled players at that position, much more than is typically demanded of a full-back, anywhere else.

Houma has a 32-yd-long reception, 3 TDs, and a 32-yd-long run.

The 2 Fullbacks (Houma & Kerridge)  alone have about the same amount of carries as any back not named De'veon Smith, and just 20 less total yardage on the season.

If anything, it's clear that Harbaugh likes (or this year is an anomaly) to utilize a VERY dynamic FB. Harbaugh is a clear outlier in this regard.

Also, Kerridge and Houma check in at 6'-0", ~250 lbs. That's an incredibly rare size/weight combination (not saying FBs need to be short, but there is a clear lower-leverage advantage when blocking. Poggi is 6'-4". For comparison Peppers is RIPPED, and at 5'10"-6'-0" he's only listed at 208lbs.

Houma was also reported as running the 40m in the ~4.6 range coming out of High School. And, Kerridge was recruited by Harbaugh while he was still at Stanford. Vastly under-reported was how lucky Harbaugh was to inherit 2 dynamic and talented players in their last year, who could do the dynamic and demanding work that Harbaugh's scheme called for. Our offense would be much less potent without their running/catching threat.

There isn't a 4-star fullback on most recruiting boards because most of highschool and NFL football does not use fullbacks.

I'm not saying Harbaugh can't/won't find great replacements, but simply stating that just because the Fullback position, currently, is under-utilized across all of football, and under-analyzed by scouting websites, doesn't mean it's a simple position.
