Week the Last: Best thing you saw this season

Submitted by mi93 on

As college football fans, I hope we can all agree that last night's game was very entertaining.  As Michigan fans, I'm sure we can all agree that 2016 can eat a bag of dongs.

I enjoyed the season despite all M losses being heartbreakers.  Lots of positives from this team and of fun things from the great game of college football.  And since the college football season is officially over (don't question it), one last time, what's the best thing you saw?

For me, on the Wolverines side, tons of young players saw the field.  Programs that reload have talent everywhere.  I know it may be more commetary on the upper classmen from a talent perspective, but the Harbaugh meritocracy looks very solid.  We are much closer to perennial power than we all should have expected in year 2 give the prior 7 years.

Non-Wolverines best thing, I'm not sure if it's Western going undefeated (rumor has it they have one more game even though college football is over), Eastern going to a bowl, or all three service acadamies going to a bowl.  All three of the above warm my college-football-lovin' heart.

Non-football, thank you to the board for participating in this topic.  It's been very enjoyable for me to read every Sunday morning.  I'll do my best to read through to see if the board would be willing to do this again next year.

Happy New Year all and I wish you all an incredible 2017.

Minus Iowa (fuck Kinnick Stadium), this team looked legit. Maybe not quite elite yet, but we spanked the bad teams and gave the elite teams all they could handle. Hell, even Iowa played well down the stretch. All this with obvious deficiencies that should be addressed by the recruiting in the next couple years, although I'm not sure we'll see a defense like this in a while.

We finally have a defense that can stop spread attacks and played well vs. OSU. So many guys contributed big plays this year. I love good defense and we have that now.

Our defense will continue to have good direction, especially with the new contract extension. And our running back stable should be in good shape (even better if we get Najee).

1. FINALLY stopping that Goddamn OSU offense. 2. Miami (NTM) becoming the first team in college football history to finish 6-0 after starting 0-6, and conversely, Baylor and their deranged university finishing 0-6 after starting 6-0

Tommy Armstrong returning to the OSU/Nebraska game is definitely my top feel good moment for non-Michigan football.

Michigan football-wise:  I've mentioned it before but beating Rutgers 78-0.  That game was a defensive thing of beauty.

This program recruits well, has an identity on both sides of the ball, has generally good special teams, develops players (think about how far Speight has come), and generally has good in-game coaching despite some blips here and there. And it seems like the team is group of good citizens. And Harbaugh makes it all fun. This season was heartbreaking at times, but Michigan is in a better way than it has been for more than a decade.

The restoration of order with Sparty. They probably won't be 3-9 next year but they are not going to be 11-1 or whatever again either. I expect to beat them again next year and that future in-state recruits will (generally) think of them as a secondary option.

Was at the Wisconsin game so the Lewis INT is up there and being at the Colorado game to see Peppers return that punt. Indiana game wasn't great but being at the game at the end to see the players making snow angels was cool. Still, too many blown opportunities. Play Peters next year. Need a better QB.

Hash browns and Bacon, lots of Bacon... Also Chris Evans, Peppers, mid season Speight, Taco and McDoom! My favorite play had to be when we stopped Barrett on 4th down, to beat OSU on the road. At least that's the way I remember it.

The best thing I saw this year was Harbaugh's ability to imo outcoach Urban and Jimbo with a shitty line and a below average run game. He didn't coach a flawless game last night, but I thought he kept us poised to win a game we should've lost by more than we did. Those boys were fast asf, more explosive, and just better overall. Couple that with the play of the young safety Mettelus?, Gary, and of course Evans, we have the young athletes to dominate athletically in a couple of years.

The white team makes a successful goal line stand to end the scrimmage and the sideline storms the field.  And dances and carries on.  For winning a spring scrimmage.

That display led me to subscribe to a streaming service with BTN and ESPN instead of hit or miss with pirate streams like Front Row Sports.  Worth every penny this season.
