Webb on Viramontes

Submitted by alum96 on

I know Vic is a fan favorite due to workout videos (Freddy Canteen says hi) and enthusiasm unknown to mankind, so thought I'd give some talking points from this morning's radio show - most is known but the new info may be how hard they plan to work to get Vic back.  (spoiler alert - not so intensively)

tl;dr - decommit was a surprise but at this point UM has a # of targets and is not falling over itself to get Vic back in the fold due to variance between # of open spots in class vs # of targets who UM has a viable chance with.  If they reconcile it will probably come after mid January after UM gets word on a good # of other targets and UM will be better able to determine if they have a spot to fit him in.  So not a plan A guy at this time.

http://www.wtka.com/2012/09/06/podcasts/

  • Vic is a jack of all trades recruit
  • As for as Michigan was concerned a man without a position - he could be FB, QB, LB, S
  • He had long expressed no real preference what position he would play in AA...then suddenly word leaked UM wouldn't allow him to play QB and he decommits.  Come to find out that info wasn't correct; someone within his circle threw shade.
  • UM would have allowed him the opportunity to try at QB.
  • At this stage he is "one of the recruits on the board" as opposed to "THE guy" we need to get back.
  • Harbaugh is visiting running backs rather than fueling up a jet to fly out to correct things with Vic.
  • This is a year UM has a large # of targets and UM has more viable targets than openings right now.  How hard they pursue Vic will be a function of how other guys fall (or not) in the class.
  • Webb would be surprised if this was resolved in UM's favor before the coming dead period (mid Dec - mid Jan).   If there is a reconciliation it would be after the dead period... as rest of the recruiting board clears up.

FWIW you are definitely one of the most informative posters we have here.  I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all the research and work you put in to keep us informed on....well....just about everydamnthing concerning Michigan football.

It's funny to me that you can post all kinds of nasty stuff about other posters and very few people make any comment at all about it but say ONE NICE THING about somebody and half the thread implies you're Google searching same-sex marrage states.

I think we're implying that you don't even have to Google them...

Lighten up, man.  If any of my guy friends were to say "Hey man, good job on working out, I can really see the improvements..." do you think anyone would let him off the hook?  In most large groups of males, sincerity is appreciated and punished accordingly.

1) They're now ALL same sex marriage states.

2) EVERYBODY loves innuendo, not just the MgoBoard.

3) The word "innuendo" itself lends itself to, um, innuendo.

4) I have no idea how I'm going to get out of this one now without looking like I want to have sex with everyone on the board.  Not that there's, well, you know.

Nah, I am giving a cliff notes - basically an inner circle guy of Vic said naughty untrue things.

What is strange is even if someone DID say you cant play QB, based on what Vic said earlier about willing to play anywhere should mean he wouldn't care.  But this tells me he obviously wants to play QB if at all possible.

That's what I still don't get about this whole thing. Either he wasn't being honest when he said he didn't care if he played QB, or he simply "wasn't that into us" for whatever reason. Because if he was that into us and did want to play QB, you'd think he would check directly with the staff after getting "shade" from his inner circle buddy. At least give Michigan the chance to directly confirm or deny it.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anybody, regardless of what he was saying. Who doesn't want to play the highest profile position on a football team?

The fact that he apparently didn't try to get confirmation or clarification from the staff before decommitting leads me to guess that his decommittment is also due to a desire to play much closer to home.

I'll be very surprised if he does sign with us at this point. He will play QB for some program out west.

So I'm getting old.

How long has "throwing shade" been a saying? I've never heard it until about a week ago and now I've heard three or four times. Just exactly how far behind the times am I?

Michigan football team was one of the first teams I saw dabbing. IIRC, during the Utah game Kenny Allen and Sypniewski dabbed after a made field goal. I think Jabrill might have dabbed after a tfl too.

I had no idea what it was a couldn't find anything after searching online. Then a couple weeks later it just blew up and everyone was dabbing.

Totally unrelated Webb is "nervous" about Bush Jr (talked to Bush Sr yest) but UM peeps are more confident than Webb.

In his conversation w/ Bush Sr... dad talked about wanting to know what system his son would be playing in (i.e. will LBs be going downhill, how aggressive, etc)- and 3 of the 4 "finalists" don't have DCs right now (UM, Auburn, GA) to answer these questions... but FSU does.  Aside from obvious things such as legacy FSU and his sister going to FSU that comment added to Webb worry.   But dad is high on #Harbaugh even though no DC.  Webb stressed his worry is independent and not what he is hearing from inside the fort.

Bush Jr and Jones are the 2 top viable LB targets right now which would be supported by the amount of visits and manpower we are sending to these 2 guys the past 2 weeks.

It was discussed in 1 of the threads yest.  It wasnt shade throwing IMO.  Clint has a low rating on Bush, like mid 400s - squarely 3 star.  His dad tweeted a remark about it and Clint responded with specifics about why he has him rated there in relation to other 4* LBs.

Start here and then read Clint's 3 responses on Dec 3rd.

Thank you, if I have any further shade throwing queries I know where to go.

I've been a little concerned about Bush's size as well.  On film he doesn't look physically beastly to me, and when I've seen subsequent pictures of him, he seems a bit undersized.

I have no expert opinion on his game, I assume the instincts and toughness overshadow that concern, if it's one at all.  It's just that we had Morgan and he was good, but great blockers got the better of him in big games.  Presumably Bush Jr. has better speed and athleticism as well, given he didn't inherit the throwback gene.

This is where Sam's natural optimism gets the better of him—he never should have bought the notion that Bush was likely to end up at Michigan in the first place. With Bush's family ties to FSU, proximity, and the fact that FSU has been in national title games recently with a stable staff, this has a Seminole commitment all over it.
