Webb says people are reading too much into Harbaugh/Wheatley photo

Submitted by AnthonyThomas on

Wheatley told Sam that a deal is "far from done" and that there has been no formal interview. Of course, the fact that he and Harbaugh are old friends will help us, but the post with the photo says the two were finalizing Wheatley's contract, which isn't true.

I can't wait for spring practice videos, Harbaugh's interactions with players, etc. Oh and 'Hello' posts. Something more tangible than the terrible information that has been thrown around concerning the coaching staff.

Been getting the impression Wheatley has been Sam's "source" for everything he's posted on the topic for a few days now. This negotiation began when Jr released his "Top 4" w/out M on it. Everything since has been an attempt to juice the offer to Sr, while meanwhile his boss quit his job, and not once has it been stated by any "source" that Sr is a "shoo-in" to follow Marrone wherever he ends up. As soon as Sr hears the $ &/or years he's looking for they'll be a new Top 4 with us at the top. Git er dun

YO Jersey! I don't pay for that Scout (or Rivals) crap. I get my info from this blog, which is perfect for my needs.

If the OP didn't state that Wheatley was the source - which I do not believe it did - I responded solely to what is in this thread. Um-kay? All this drama because I used " " around the word source? Really?!

I'm not from, nor in, New Jersey. I think I've been there three times in my life.

And, if you follow Sam's link, it was free.

Which brings me to the following point: if you're only going to get your "info from this blog", that's fine. However, I would like to point out that your assumptions, like some of the info posted on his site, aren't always the best source of truth.

That was my first thought. He's being interviewed for an assistant coaching position, not director of the CIA.  Why would he be in town for a full day, go out to dinner with Harbaugh, but then be "far from finalized"?  I find it hard to believe, given the hectic lifestyle of football coaches, that he would have all this time to just hang out and not get to business, especially since he will be looking for another job if this one doesn't pan out.

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Webb just related this morning that he knew about the firing of Hoke well before it was public knowledge, but he intentionally and specifically refused to break the information before UM did because he believes there are certain situations where being first to report news isn't doing the right thing by the people involved.

IT'S NOT HAPPENING!

You know, if Jim Harbaugh can't seal the deal with bottomless fries and a mushroom burger, then maybe he's not the right guy for the job...

Is Bob Stitt still available?

He also said an interview would happen today and Wheatley may very well end up on staff. But at the time of the photo, nothing was final. Do we really believe Harbaugh told some guy's dad at Red Robin that they were finalizing a contract like was mentioned on the previous post?

This is how the echo chamber starts. Guy takes pic with Harbaugh and Wheatly, asks what they are doing at Red Robin and Harbaugh jokingly says with a smile "We're just finalizing the details to get this guy in Ann Arbor" followed by giving Ty a friendly punch. Random guy is too star struck at moment to pick up on obvious sarcasm, so he relays message to buddy, who posts on a website "Its a done deal". Some are skepticle, but enough people glancing over see its a done deal, then they spread that same thing onto other websites.  Now people are simply reading "Rivals confirms Wheatly finalizing details". The story has gotten so far from its source, that people don't question it because they don't even think they have too. This is why I always wait for the pros to confirm things before getting any hopes up.
