4 wins from another B1G Title.
Now let's bang...
...posbang, that is.

Here's a gif of Tubby dancing.
I don't think this is correct. We are tied with Wisconsin, and they beat us head to head. We only play them once. Am I missing something or wouldn't Wisconsin be Big Ten champs if we were to be tied at the top with just them?
EDIT: I guess I was wrong. Same record is a split title. I guess it makes sense considering they didn't have to come to our place.
We both win the conference, but they will get the #1 line in the B1G tournament- I do believe.
I don't think the B1G has a tie breaker since they don't have a balanced schedule. What ever the final records are is all that matters.
I think we would get #1 Seed if we win out because we would have an overall ranking better than Wisconsin. For instance if we were #1 or #2 and Wisconsin was #10, we would B1G Ten #1 Seed.
http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/100606aae.html
Let's say Michigan and Wisco finish the regular season atop the rankings. Wisco gets the #1 seed because of tie-breaker #1. Ranking does not matter at all.
TWO-TEAM TIE
1. Results of head-to-head competition during the regular season.
2. Each team's record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings (or in the case of a tie for the championship, the next highest position in the regular season standings) continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
3. Won-loss percentage of all Division I opponents.
4. Coin toss conducted by the Commissioner or designee.
If it's a multi-team tie, then ranking still doesn't matter:
MULTIPLE-TEAM TIE
1. Results of head-to-head competition during the regular season.
2. If the remaining teams are still tied, then each tied team's record shall be compared to the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings, continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
3. Won-loss percentage of all Division I opponents.
4. Coin toss conducted by the Commissioner or designee.
F'n Wisconsin.
Exactly...
Precisely ...
Good Gotham, that one damn shot. It haunts my dreams.
People, come on . . . I click on this thread thinking it's going to be jubliant and you're all buzzkills. The Wisconsin game doesn't matter now. This result effectively wipes it out. We win out and we're Big Ten champs.
If you haven't figured out Bo Ryan made a deal with the devil yet...
I'm not mad at the hoops deities. Ohio State could have easily gone the other way, and I would MUCH rather lose to Wisconsin.
He didn't make a deal with him, they're the same person.
It makes the MSU game must win (as well as the other road games) and most likely removes the chance to win it outright. It goes from only a major collapse costing us the title to having to win out. That game still matters big time.
Here's what I mean. If IU, as expected, had won today and we had won in Madison, we'd be in the exact same situation as we are - one game behind IU and likely needing to win out.
The breaks tend to balance out. People forget how close we came to losing to Ohio at home. And IU's loss to Illinois was arguably as shocking as ours to UW when you think about how big a lead they gave up. Anyhow, if we had won in Madison, maybe IU would have brought their "A" game tonight, knowing they had to protect their lead in the standings.
this have a way of evening out over a season or through the years...
now, lets lock this shit down and win a big ten championship.
I now get mad if I even see a halfcourt shot get made. It's become a sickness as I can't even watch video of the fans at an NBA game making a halfcourt shot for prize money without wanting to punch them in the face.
They've done nothing wrong, but I just get irrationally angry at half-court shots....that and Cheese. Basically.........Fuck Wisconsin.
Because Wisconsin = Cheese and F#*k Wisconsin, that's why.
Nobody said it was rational
Aren't you people forgetting MSU beat them in Madison and they still have to go to EL next week? They won't win that!
I would actaully love to see them win that game, then lose against Purrrooooo shit... Well at least lose against Penn ssssoooooo shit .... Well damn.
...that the Wisconsin game would huant us for a long time. Even if we manage to win out & somehow luck into an outright B1G title and possibly even an NCAA title...I still think that game will irritate me everytime I think of it.
I guess that I need to start boozin again. F'n Lent scrifices!
need to win out. Don't celebrate yet!
We? I see that Badger you half-court-miracle-loving bastard.
DEATH TO BACKBOARDS. DEATH TO THE HALFCOURT.
And just like that MICHIGAN's BIG Ten title hopes are very much alive!
Also Tubby's seat just cooled down.
Possibly get that would be better than tubby??
They think they can get Shaka Smart. Apparently there's some connection with Minnesota's AD.
It's Minny. They fired Glen Mason for Tim Brewster. They don't need to get someone better. They'll probably still fire Tubby after this and hire that cheerleader who hit a flip throw from halfcourt.
F*CK F*CK YA BEAT THE SPARTANS!!!!!!
MARCH 10TH may just have turned into The Game of the Year (assuming we beat MSU)
Fuck half court shots.
If not for that, we'd be in great shape at least a shared title.
It's time to move on from that. All we have to do now is win four games, and we're Big Ten champs.
JM? That couldn't possibly stand for Jim McIlvaine, former NBA player for the Bullets hailing from Racine, WISCONSIN, could it? Nice try you Ryan-worshipping fire-crotch-loving bastard.
This would be funnier if I could believe you were joking.
Our basketball team gets a huge break tonight and all people want to do is relive the most painful moment of the season? If we win out, we're Big Ten champs and a surefire #1 seed in the tourney. Don't look for warts.
Winning out is going to be extremely difficult, and we wouldn't have to do it were it not for that miracle. I think it's pretty normal to point out this fact.
McIlvane played at Marquette. If anything he probably hates the Badgers more than we do.
where is tasnyder01's thread? that dude called it with minutes to go, and now there is no remnant of that wonderful thread. ah, mods.
You might have to travel south to a warmer climate to find that thread. I heard Bolivia is nice this time of year
I posted it with Minn up 7 with a minute left to go. Figured I'd get some flak, but...I went to Bolivia? Wut?
No not you. Just the thread because as soon as everyone saw it, we all knew what the reactions were going to be and by the time I got to my computer it was already gone
Bolivia is no place to enjoy life from what I've heard; however, unknowingly residing there is just plain tragic.
You could do worse in South America. You could do worse in Mexico.
and the first fifteen were pretty much all "you should get banned for posting this" and "WTF dude". This one popped up and it looked a lot more promising.
By the nice team!
Yessssssssssssss
We are going to have some BIG football recruiting opportunities coming up in Chrysler. Gotta get some guys on campus.
They use Chrysler to recruit. Chevrolet if its Pryor.
Crisler* Person, not the car
Don't spell that like that.
Sorry guys. Autocorrect. I'm ashamed.
Gonzaga has a legit shot to be #1 in the polls next week. That is total bullshit
God I want Gonzaga to be the one seed in our region if we are a two and the two if we are a one.
I would consider being a 2 seed in Gonzaga's quadrant equally as awesome as being a 1 seed.
Winning out will be a tall order, but its nothing they can't achieve.
I just want to step back for a second and think about if, hypothetically, Michigan wins its next 3 games and sets up a winner-take-all game against Indiana for the league title. I can't possibly fathom what the energy in Crisler will be like.
I'm afraid it is over spring break. Which reeeeallly sucks.
If I had student tickets and I would have been out of town. I would pay the extra money to come back early for the game. No hesitation
I looked at every game under John Beilien over student break, he's 17-6 (17-4 with 2007-2008 data removed because holy shit we were bad). Of course, he is only 2-1 against ranked opponents over break.
Attendance wise, 18 out of 23 games over break saw attendance greater than the season average. And the ones that didn't were to inferior, nonconference opponents (NCCU, FGCU, Bryant, etc.)
I think we will be okay.
It is at 4 PM on the Sunday before classes start again the next day. Do not panic! Crisler will be hopping!
And, as an added bonus for me...I'll be there!
I've got a feeling it's gonna be loud and rowdy. Everybody still has a ticket to the game(unlike the MSU game) and it's the day before classes so almost everyone will be back
Theoretically, anyway. I'm not a Michigander but aren't students not in class for that game?? And will they fuggin' stay if that scenario plays out?! (Cecause I'll drive the 6.5 hours from Iowa to help fill that place for a moderately price ticket.)
Winning out will be a tall order, but its nothing they can't achieve.
If we can't win two home games and road games against two teams with losing records, we don't deserve to be league champs. It's not that tough of a road.
it's two top 10 teams, one of which is the odds-on favorite to be the number 1 overall seed once the tourney starts. That's a pretty tough road.
And what are we, chopped liver? I'm pretty sure we're #4 in the country in both polls. If we're as good as our ranking suggests, we'll defend our home court. We have a score to settle with both teams and we'll be playing them in Crisler. If we can't beat them, we don't deserve the title. Last year we split with the other two co-champs.
One game at a time boys.
TUBBY TUBBY TUBBY TUBBY TUBBY
OH GOD I WANT THAT WISCONSIN GAME BACK SO BAD
Ah, well.
FUCK YEAH
Yeah lets not talk about that game anymore. Makes me want to punch a hole in my wall.
We need Wisconsin to lose once for BTT # 1 seed purposes.
Out of curiosity what is the tiebreaker if we go 1 and 1 against teams we are tied with?
We'd be 1-2, assuming the win at the end.
It's the record against the #3 team (and if necessary, the #4 team, etc.) - but that only matters for BTT seedings. Any team tied for first is regular-season champ.
I believe it's record against the next highest team in the standings. So if we win out and split the title with IU and MSU finishes 3rd, then IU would be the 1 seed in the BTT because they went 2-0 against our 1-1 versus State.
domain?
/seinfeld'd
This is going to be a crazy end to the season. Let's win them all and get the Big Ten Championship!!! Go Blue!!
We still have to beat 2 top 10 teams, but at least we get them at home.
Last time Gophers beat a #1 team: 1989
Who won the national championship that year?
:)
Home court means EVERYTHING in the Big 10 conference
And we know who has the longest home win streak in the B1G.....
Doesn't Wisconsin hold the tiebreaker over us and Indiana? If we both win out, won't they win it outright?
No. But they will go to the Rose Bowl.
Same number of B1G losses = Split title. If both Michigan and Wisconsin win out, they both have 4 losses and both win a share of the title.
Yes, Wisconsin holds the tiebreakers right now but that only matters for B1G Tourney seeding.
I hope to God that will play Wisconsin in the BTT. I cannot wait to shit all over them after what they pulled at home.
literally.
It's possible but unlikely before the final game of the tournament.
Wouldn't Wisconsin win based on winning against Indiana and Michigan? Or is the regular season title based solely on record?
Record alone. I think tie-breakers help determine seeds but record alone is what counts for the overall title/getting a banner. *Record against Wisconsin last year was the tie-breaker used for seeding in the BTT.
It would appear you're right. I thought all three split with each other last year, but I went and checked and Michigan State beat Ohio State both times.
No wait I misread it. All three split with each other in the regular season.
MSU did not beat OSU both times. OSU's win at Breslin gave us a share of the conference title in the final game of the season. That was a pretty exciting moment.
Edit. Beat me by a second.
I think OSU beat MSU once? The top three split against each other I think, hence the tie-breaker getting down to similar opponents record.
Sparty beat Wisconsin twice, we won the only game against them and OSU split, giving OSU the worse record and the 3-eed, us the 2-seed, and Sparty the 1-seed.

We win out, we hang a banner. We're probably sharing the conference championship with either Indiana, Wisconsin, or both, but a banner is going up regardless.
Anciliary benefit, Michigan winning out means denying Sparty a share of the title. Yes please.
Fuck Wisconsin.
Indiana still plays OSU in Bloomington but the Bucks are 0-5 on the road against ranked teams this year.
Sparty plays Wisconsin at home.
We On
Dance???
You can't be serious.
Forty minutes later here we are.
Go blue!
/that game would not end.
Was that the longest minute of basketball in the history of the game?
Someone had to say it
Why are we worried about tiebreakers? Plenty of bball left. I doubt UW wins out and MIchigan has to win out for it to even matter.
We have to concentrate on Penn State first
As one of the guys sitting in Crisler two Sundays ago wondering why, with only about 5:00 left to play, we weren't seeing Blake McLimans and the rest of the bench getting some garbage minutes; I think we would be foolish to look past the Nittany Lions.
They are terrible, but wanting to avoid a winless conference season is a powerful motivator. One game at a time.
We own...Penn State. Now make it happen.
Here's the tiebreaker:
http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/110512aac.html
It doesn't look good. If we're tied with just IU at the end, it goes to record against the next best team and then working your way down. If they get to MSU (or OSU assuming IU wins) then we lose.
If it's Wisconsin involved, we lose (as would IU).
If both, then we're 3rd as you'd use head to head first, which puts Wisky #1. Then the same procedures as above for IU.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's just for seeding, right? If Wisconsin loses one more game (I'm guessing at MSU) and Michigan wins out, we share the championship with Indiana.
Go Blue!
I know we got a share last year because we split with MSU and Ohio, and they got a share too. But since Wisconsin has the lead in the series don't they break the tie? Can somone look into this? I don't wanna celebrate until I know for a fact we control our fate...
It's all about seeding. Head-to-head has nothing to do with the final standings. You get a share of the conference title as long as you're at least tied with the top team in the conference.
It was the same rule in football before we got divisions and a title game. In 2000, we shared the conference title with the 2 teams that beat us.
Don't we still need Wisconsin to lose one more time to control our own destiny?
It might not be from the basketball season, but this epitomizes how I feel about Wisconsin and how awesome Minnesota is tonight
This officially made my night.
that Minnesota is losing 42-13 in that shot. At least they kept the title belt from that badger
The B10 title is solely based on record. If Mich, IU, and Wisco all tied, Wisco would be the #1 seed in the B10 Tourney but all 3 would be regular season champs. Wisco only had to play IU and Michigan once which made their schedule much easier than ours or Indiana's.
Here's the tiebreaker:
http://www.bigten.org/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/110512aac.html

Who gives a damn?
B1G Championship > B1G Tournament Championship
As far as I'm concerned, if we win the B1G Tittle game, great, but I'd almost rather be well rested and make a run for the National Championship instead. Both tournaments will be hell to win and we already proved we can hold our own against the rest of the Big Ten. The only positive I see is if Indiana, MSU or us wins the B1G tournament, then I believe they're/we're a guarenteed one seed.
should win tomorrow at Penn St, setting up a huge game with little bro. Think if we win both IU and MSU we gotta be a lock for a 1 seed. (Disclaimer- thats a big IF)
If 4 teams share identical conference records at the end of the regular season, all 4 would share the Big Ten title. Anything to the contrary is news to me.
That's how it is. Last year there were three champions with the same record. Tiebreakers are only used for B1G Tournament seeding.
Thank God. Ain't no way ohio was gonna beat them in bloomington.
Just win out guys and it's ours. Thankfully the two toughest games left are at home. But they CAN NOT take ANYONE lightly. Not penn state, not purdue, not anyone.
We all remember what purdue did last year. That is a trap game being on the road. Just take care of business the rest of the way guys.
Michigan is big 10 champs. Who cares if there is a tie? That's only for the big 10 tournament.
I don't want to know your name. All I want is bang bang bang.
I like banging...
Go ahead.
But, MSU and the Indiana Clown Pants are tough foes, even if we play at Crisler.
I dont want relationship, all I want, BANG BANG BANG!
and remove all doubt!!
I will say Wisco screwed with us but they also did help by handing Indiana one of their three losses.
If Wisco loses that game we'd be in hot water right now. I know we should have gotten that win but I am happy we are in control of our own destiny.
Now have to handle PSU because they took it to us in Crisler and can beat us if we don't bring our A game.
We brought our, and being generous here, C- game against PSU, while they brought thier A+ game. If we bring our A game we'll win by 30.
So many people talking about how we can win this or what our seed might be.. Just enjoy the fact that Minnesota won and we're back in the race for first!
Bang goes the drum. THE MINNESOTA DRUM!
GO BLUE!!!
As of this moment, my (relatively optimistic) mind believes that we are even money to win (a share of) the BIG regular season title. In all likelihood we would have to win out but it is always great to control your own destiny while also having home court advantage (for the key games).
I am running out of hopslam :(
Wisconsin also plays next week @ MSU, who will hopefully be pissed off from losing to Michigan on Sunday. Anything can happen, especially with Wisconsin, but I don't see them coming out of Breslin with a win. Which will put them at 5 losses for the season, taking them out of the B1G championship (unless crazy things happen).
We control our destiny, no doubt about it. If M wins out, we'll be tied with Indiana at 14-4, everyone else will have five losses or more.
....Trevor Mbakwe uses his own coach to celebrate, and all is right with the world for the time being...
The funny thing about this game - statistically, Minnesota loses the shooting battle in terms of overall efficiency, but talk about timely shooting, and it's all Gophers. They deserve this celebration as it helps my alma mater.
This is another why I love college basketball. The players and coaches are so emotionally involved in their programs and that pure euphoria that they showed after that win is why college basketball is so much better than the NBA.
Did anyone else notice how [ not sure who it is ] is simultaneously spanking Tubby.... That's awesome.
On another positive note, Tennessee is giving Florida a game (UT has the lead at Halftime). We might get help on both the BIG championship and NCAA tournament fronts tonight!
I'm not convince that Indiana isn't going to lose to Ohio State before they make thier way to Ann Arbor. After that we just have to hope little brother takes care of Wisconsin at home and we won't have to worry about all this tiebreaker stuff. That is of course assuming we take care of business.
Beat Sparty
Brutus beats Indiana
Sparty Beats Wisky
Beat IU
Write book titled "How to be Big Ten Champs in 8 days"
Profit
You forgot the ???
You left out a step.
???
EDIT: I am too slow. And sad about my dwindling HOPSLAM reserve
We've still got a lot of work to do but it is great to control everything. Can't wait until the weekend.
Beat Penn State! And F Ben Brust!
We have total control over our overall NCAA seed as well. If we won out we would have beaten MSU, Indiana and then something along the lines of Illinois, MSU and Indiana again in the BTT if we were the #2 BTT seed. That's a lot to ask...but if it happened it would give us the best resume in college basketball. Next two weeks are gonna be crazy.
And....Bang goes the dynamite
I CANT BELIEVE MY EYES.
Thank you Minnesota!!!
Now slap the stew out of PSU.
My son went to UT, Thompson-Boling is a fun place to watch a game.
Hopefully Vols can beat gators. Anything that helps M!! Go Blue!
Treat it as football before the last two years, and seeding in the Big Ten Tournment = Rose Bowl. But shared titles still existed.
in late, but bang away baby!
Win just keep winning fab 5 this!
Well done Blue!
This thread is clearly missing praise for the pretty ladies presented for all to enjoy.
Did anyone notice the Purple Heart? The wound that never heals??
I apologize.
Should be an exciting finish to the regular season....Go Blue!
Lets GO!! Indidana is so beatbale, as it State. We can really do this!
Two times. Did you get "beatbaled" as a child??
DAMN YOU TO HELL!!
Now that I've also got that off my chest, I like our chances at home AND on the road the rest of the way thru the B1G season.
GO BLUE ! ! !
Wow, didn't see this coming. I went to bed early to get some sleep when Indiana looked like they were up fairly comfortablely. I guess not so comfortable at all. Awesome way to start a crappy weather morning.
Sucks is state gets all week to prepare...we better beat penn state and then we will have to play our best game of the year to beat state.
After the way we got humiliated in East Lansing a couple of weeks ago, if you can't get up for this game despite having to travel to Penn State on Wednesday....I don't know what to tell you.
I won't consider Michigan as having had "breaks even out" until the Wolverines throw up a desperation heave with the clock running out and win a game. Actually, the basketball gods still owe the Wolverines from a couple of years ago, too.
