I think you missed a "have" in there...
no, YOU'RE off topic
I think you missed a "have" in there...
Thanks. I phone and to pissed to type.
Let's all head over to Seth's and ring his neck. And I want my $19.95 back from Kenpom! He doesn't know shit.
Edit: wring. And I'm kidding (sort of)
Just finished watching the recording because i got out of work late.I chalk that up to a lot of lucky shit. Did they miss more than 1 shot in the last 10 minutes?
Look...it's bad, but it's not "move us down 3 seed lines" bad. We'll be at worst a 3 seed. They're playing like crap on the road cause they can't handle the pressure. The tournaments are on (somewhat) neutral court. We should be ok.
I disagree. I think they pretty conclusively proved that they should be moved down at least three lines, you just can't lose to a terrible team like that and not get punished. Add in the trend which makes this team very likely to lose the next three games and bow out early in the Big Ten tournament and I'd say 5 or 6 seed to end the year is a realistic expectation.
Dude, tonight was a neutral court. More or less. The Bryce Center is NOT, I repeat, NOT an intimidating place to play. This was effectively not a road game, at least not in the atmosphere sense. Did you see their student section? There were maybe 50 kids there.
If this team can't handle the pressure of that court, they sure as shit can't handle one in the tournament, when they'll be playing solid teams every night. Not the hapless, desperate, nothing-to-lose mentality one we just saw win tonight.
I'm telling you, home court means EVERYTHING in the Big Ten. In case you forgot, IU lost to Minny last night.. so it's not like Michigan is the only team underperforming right now.
Still can't tell how Michigan is going to do on neutral court.
But yeah, It's a little disturbing at times, idn't it?
Penn State is garbage, usually.
But tonight, they shot 50% from 3, for 30 points. Tonight was also a rare game in which we committed 10 fouls in 12 minutes <-- these two stats are all you need for an upset. 27 trips to the foul line gives you an opportunity to score up to 49 points. 49 + 30 = 79.
79 points simply off of getting to the foul line and making 3s.
And there's no such thing as 3 point defense. It's random. So stop running your mouths about defense. It just so happens that every team gets hot at the 3 line against us.
Three point defense is only random if you play it. I don't think KenPom or Brian or anyone with functioning eyeballs would say that if you leave scholarship athletes open or don't close out or don't raise your arms in the air that that increase a teams likelihood of making threes.
It is easy to get hot against teams that don't guard you.
Just keep telling yourself that all these poor shooting teams are getting lucky against us.
Stauskus is one of the worst road players I have ever seen. I dont care that he shot the ball well tonight, his turnovers were making me rip my hair out. Everytime he is even close to pressuered, he just throws it away. 5 TOs to 1 Assist tonight, absolutely terrible. He is just so flustered on the road, so nervous. I dont want to hear any excuses about being a freshman either.
Can you believe we thought this team was comparable to the Fab 5? ONE thing that sets the Fab 5 apart: they played each game like it was their last. That one factor is the difference between two consecutive championship game appearences, and a loss to the only winless team in conference play. I hate to say it, but Beilein has taken this team as far as he can...he doesn't know what to do know. I think lining up a replacement or getting some better assistant coaches is in order. Beat State.
my first thought tonight as we blew a chance at the title by not showing up against a vastly inferior opponent on the road, was the @northwestern game the fab five blew to ensure that they never won anything.
i love the fab 5. but they took nights off too.
I would take a Sweet 16 trip in a second. But I don't think they win 4 more games this year.
But we are Michigan for better or worst. Frustrating young team. Go Blue!
IU, Florida, PSU, Miami (yes, that Miami)
We out rebounded them 38 to 26. The problem was we the turnovers were 15 - 9 against us and Burke had 6!
The big difference was three pointers. We both shot 20 - we made 5 and they made 10.
Time to regroup...Crisler better be rocking on Sunday. Go Blue!
Unfortunately, I see Chrisler being pretty subdued. I think this loss has really shaken peoples faith and enthusiasm in the team. If they start out poorly against MSU(and they will) I think the crowd(which is naturally subdued anyway, let's be honest) goes away along with home court advantage.
We're not the #1 team in the nation. We're probably not even in the top 5. However, as ugly as that game was I still think we're a Top 10 team.
We are undefeated at home and on neutral courts. All our important games coming up are played at home or on neutral courts. We're no longer going to be considered for a #1 seed, and we're no longer B10 Title Contenders, but a good finish to the regular and B10 tourney season will get us a #2, or #3 seed at worst. PENN STATE was the worst possible loss but I think we play angry and beat MSU. Purdue and IU will be challenges. Defense is not a question mark anymore. It's a huge problem.
This team just doesn't want to play angry. After that blowout against Michigan State, they should have came out and destroyed Penn State. Instead they let them play too close at home. Then the team plays them in a rematch on the road and loses with no defense and too many turnovers.
Is no way in hell this team beats MSU, no way.
I guess we shouldn't even show up.
Might prefer a forfeit over what the alternatives appear to be at this point.
I think a large number of Michigan fans still care more about the effort than the result. I know I do. We should be a frighteningly good perimeter defense. Instead we are terrible. Since we have long athletic perimeter players the explanation is simple - lack of effort.
I feel like I am watching my 8 year old play. He thinks he's playing hard and he's really playing at about 60%. I pull him aside and talk to him about it and he says he totally understands. He then goes out there and plays at....60% and acts surprised when I tell him he was playing the same way. At some point it is up to the players to decide how much they want it and to actually leave it on the floor. Tonight not one player left it all on the floor. When the entire team does that, they lose in the most embarrassing defeat if the year.
passion and hustle?
Stauskas was awful with 5 TOs and only 1 assist.
Being mcgary, was parked on the bench, inexplicably, for the last 12-14 minutes. Instead we got Jordan I Only Set Picks Morgan.
Aaaaand here we go with a bunch of excuses.. This is pathetic, this team is not a top ten team and lacks leadership biiiiiiiiig time, they gona loose in the first round, mark my word...msu will come in our house and embarras us again, im sooo pissed at this guys, hving the biggest fan base in the country and they cant even do us proud... Im done, football season lets go
All I learned tonight is that turning over the ball 15 (15!) (YES 15 TIMES WE TURNED THE BALL OVER) and the other team shoots 10-20 from deep, you're going to lose. It's amazing it was even close.
We should play well on neutral courts. Cheer up guys.
Season pissed away right there. Unless Michigan comes back to life and wins out, they aren't going to even get a first round bye in the B1G Tournament. Kiss 1 seed goodbye and maybe even a 2.
Get ready for an even worse foul disparity against Izzo. The stripes made sure that we couldn't touch their jock straps in EL. Remember Burke fould 3 and 4?
Oh shut up about the fouls. What are you, fifteen? Don't blame this loss on the referees, that is what ESPN.COM and MLIVE commentators do. I thought we were better than that. You already had one thread deleted.
And turn your hat forward, it's unbecoming of a Michigan Man to wear it sideways like that.
All confidence seems lost. This team had all the confidence in the world for the first half of the season, but they were not prepared to crash back down to earth. They have reacted badly and have regressed. This is on the coaches and the players. Let's hope this is the kick in the ass they need to get going into the NCAA tournament. It doesn't look good now, but this can be a great team if they catch fire. I'm keeping the faith. But today still hurts like hell...
Looked confident because the competition was horrible, pretty easy to see that now.
As the season goes on we look like we r getting exposed each n every way n if trey goes down we r screwed n look like an avg team without him... the one complaint I have had n have always had is michigan never seems to get a 6 9 guy or taller who can block shots n play good defense.. r def seems to look worse each game if we play like we have been we r gonna out 1st round or sooner.. we had a chance to keep a #1 seed n we blew it...
While this is a young team, when you have no presence down low, rely on jump shots and play a non pressure D, expectations need to be lowered. This team relies to much on Burke and is prime for a very early exit in March.
The current state of mgoblog right now. http://3432-boston.voxcdn.com/files/2013/02/beastmodetoinfinity.gif
In fairness, that guy up there did say he threw a chair.
But did someone catch one like she did?
for so many different reasons. SHE-HULK SMASH!
Has had an immense struggle in closing out games all season. There were several games early in the season on which we were lucky to escape. It's finally come to fruition tonight and that's on the coaching staff.
At least our expectations have become high of the program that we can feel disappointed when we drop from one seed and conference championship talk. I know it may not be what people want to think about -- I'm content to be a grumpy the rest of the night too -- but it's good that we've come so far, and to have so much on the line. A few short years ago, we were (kind of) like Penn State was tonight, nobody talked about us unless we had a huge upset, but now we're on the national scene.
