national champs baby
We just lost to Penn State... I don't even know anymore... Snowflakes
Drink your kool aid Bro. But the Team lost to an 0-13 team.
That matters. This effing team should have crushed these guys
Make more excuses
And we should have been s Carolina, OSU Nebraska and ND.
Best case scenario now is a 2 seed in the same quadrant as 1 seed Gonzaga. No more Big Ten title aspirations.
This team has regressed more than any team in the country. No one that has watched them during the last three weeks would put them at fourth. They are beyond terrible on defense.
Whammy!
Relegate Stauskas to the bench, his defense is atrocious and it outweighs what he does on the offensive end.
Blank.....Blank......You're not looking at the big picture here.
He has dead legs, wasn't a plus defender before and his once-automatic 3-pt shot has regressed--short on a lot of them. A physical specimen like GRIII can log a lot of minutes as a freshman, but Nik has been on the court too much...don't understand why Matty Vogrich couldn't have gotten some minutes.
This team can score flashy. Too bad they can't defend or rebound. I can't defend Belein anymore. They don't have to be MSU or OSU great, they just have to be not lazy. They sag off on the ball. They hedge every pick (often poorly) and they are terrible at rotating to shooters. They never pressure or try to cause turnovers. They don't box out. Against the worst team in the fucking conference they play laxadaisical with the ball. Since MSU the effort and improvement has been non-existent. What a joke.
Hail to the Victors!
You nailed every point on this one. These guys are soft and, yes, I know they are freshmen. However, as we UM fans know....freshman absolutely can play with fire, emotion and passion. Man....I would love to see a little Rose and Webber in our boys (minus the $ handshakes, of course).
A day after the door to a #1-seed and a B1G title were flung wide open again, we blow a 15 point second half lead to Penn State to effectively shut the door on either of those happening! Damn it!
Team lost interest when it got up by 13. Tough homer calls were tough, but to be expected on the worst team's senior night. I feel coach should've done something. I don't know what, but that slide from up by double digits to down was pretty quick and seemingly without much effort by PSU.
There are no corners in space.
This is one night we definitely missed Stu and Zack. Veteran teams understand to bring it every game and take care of these games on the schedule. Young teams play hard in spurts and think they can take stretches off. We played hard for the first 10 minutes of the second half and thought the game was over.
There were multiple times tonight where PSU lost the ball, or had a rebound fall short, under our basket and we had a guy right in position to dive on the floor and pick it up. Repeatedly, they beat us to the ball. I'm sure that will get some guys chewed out in the film room. That's effort.
College basketball is great when you're beating more talented teams b/c you have guys like Zack and Stu. The other side of that coin is a team like this, which is more talented than most (though not as talented as a lot of people seem to think they are). Young teams f--- up. The Fab 5 went 11-7 in the Big Ten...This is just the way things go sometimes. These guys still need to learn a lot of things - a lot of them weren't born when the Fab 5 got to Michigan!

Yeah well we're kinda fucked there now aren't we? We're going to lose Burke and Hardaway to the draft and no way in hell does next year's team have the potential this one had.
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
I think there's a good chance Hardaway comes back. He needs to work on a lot of things...Also, Michigan has some very good players coming in, and we shouldn't underestimate the improvement McGary, Robinson, etc. can make over a year.

And that Big Ten would have killed this Big Ten.

The Fab Five joined a team that had four returning starters. They eventually beat them all out, but those guys were still around if needed. We would have lost in the Sweet 16 without Riley having a huge game against OK State and then Voskuil came up big in the Final Four against Cincy.
A freshman is maybe the fourth best player on this team.

We can go around and around on this forever. Bottom line: the Fab Five were exceptional and even so, they had bad games. I don't think that can be disputed.
This team is not so good that it is immune to a bad loss. We had done a good job until tonight of avoiding that bad loss, but it finally came.
That Big Ten was much better than this one, but none of this year's freshman are as good as Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, or Juwan Howard (or maybe even Jimmy King)...It says a lot about where we are in college basketball when we think a sophomore is an older guy. Trey Burke can't buy himself a beer, can he?

So...spring football starts soon.
And spring break is next week (if you're in college).
If you are indifferent to both of those I am so sorry, I have nothing to help you.

I am so sick of the consistent lack of energy on this team. Come out playing like shit, get a 14 point lead, and get flat out worked down the stretch. It's not just who we lost to, it's how common this lack of effort takes place. I'm taking the next3 games off. See you all for the big ten tourney. I hope we win, but I can't handle getting this pissed twice per week every week.
This is usually the point in the hoops season where I say, "Whoops, at least we're awesome in hockey." I can't even say that this year.
Pointless as no one will read these comments and just post their own depressing thoughts, buuuuttt...
The inability of anyone other than Burke to handle the ball is becoming an issue. The pressure defense killed us; even Burke struggled to get around the double team up top.
Defense was atrocious all fuggin' game..what's new, right? We rely on help too much which I think throws all or our rotations off; it's not that they don't rotate, it's that the on ball defense is so horrid a second person is needed to stop a penetration and from there kick out and dishes are made and succeed because at that point any rotation is already behind a step or two. I could be wrong on all of this but I've been trying to figure this bad defense out. Their slow, also, which, applies to the aforementioned.
Couldn't agree more. The ability of other teams to seemingly steal at will is starting to really become an issue. We definitely need more competent ball handlers(a reason for the Trey Spike rotations perhaps). I think everyone has seen on tape that Michigan just cannot handle pressure and they're all starting to apply it. This is the second year in a row that the offense has BADLY regressed, if it's a trend next year I think some questions need to start getting asked. What sucks is we just got our hopes back up after the Illinois game and the Indiana loss which makes this worse. Did something in this team just fundamentally break when Wisconsin hit that miracle three, I'm starting to think so. Maybe there's just a sense that the world is against them and they're tired of fighting it, which might be why they gave up in this game.
On the whole I am done watching the team this year, as a four game losing streak and early round exit feel pre-ordained now and quite frankly I hate rooting for teams that visibly quit. For those of you with the intestinal fortitude to keep watching, bless you and you are better people than I.
Chaos is found in greatest abundance wherever order is being sought. It always defeats order because it is better organized.
The effort is a thing of concern, I agree. I don't think they quit, though. You MAY be on to something about the "them against the world" notion. Fighting that and giving in may not necessarily equate to quitting. I would strongly suggest not giving up on these guys. Sure, take Sunday off, keep the emotions away from watching the Sparty game. Take next week off against Purdue, too. I'd say come back for the Indiana game but at the least come back to these guys when the play in Chicago in two weeks. Will they continue to struggle? Maybe. Maybe not. If the effort still isn't there/back after taking a week or two off, I'd agree that it wouldn't be worth a fan's time and emotion to watch. Don't give up, though.
Snowflakes are supposed to be unique and pretty but these snowflakes are all filled with anger and hate. My mom lied to me.
There is no chemistry out there. The coaches have made us a one-man team. "Give it to Burke". It's Burke and then the rest of them, not a unified group. I feel like the other guys on the team are looking forward next season when Burke's gone.
Not a fan of these guys at all right now. Let's hope somebody figures it out before all is lost.
GO BLUE!

so whens the spring game?

Here are the final shooting percentages...
| FG% | 3FG% | FT% | Eff. FG% | |
| MICHIGAN | 51.7% | 25.0% | 65.0% | 56.0% |
| PENN STATE | 47.4% | 50.0% | 74.1% | 56.1% |
From the standpoint of effective FG%, it was extremely competitive. Indeed, we bested Penn State for offensive rebounds (14 to their 9) and total rebounds (37 to their 27). The two things that jump out in the stats are this - Penn State had more steals and we committed more turnovers. We also sent them to the line quite a bit - 27 FT attempts to our 20.

Thanks. Was just going to take a look at this info. myself. TO's hurt. And Burke had 6; very unorthodox (though one was charge and one was off a steal he made and wasn't able to get a "good" handle on the ball). 50% 3 pt. shooting from them is our lackluster defense. Sending them to the line was partially due to said lackluster defense; a few bad calls scattered in there but not as many as many here think.
The team that wanted to win more won. That is a problem. Penn St. isn't playing for anything but pride. Maybe if Michigan played for pride they wouldn't be in this embarrassing mess. No defense, no hustle, no rebounding. Apparently, now not taking care of the basketball. Glenn Robinson can do nothing but dunk the ball. He can't shoot. He doesn't want to shoot. He can't defend. Stauskas shouldn't even play his defense is that bad. Considering the stakes and what happened last night with Indiana, this is one of the biggest disappointments I have had with Michigan basketball in a long time. How can a young team regress this much. The Michigan team that went out and beat the shit out of Minnesota on the road 5 weeks ago was much better than the current outfit. If Michigan played Penn St. in early January, we would have won by 20. I am disgusted with how a team gets worse over the course of a season.
What ya gonna do when HOKEamania runs wild on you???
No defense, refs stunk, no chemistry or discipline!
Michigan's getting progressivly worse!
On a side note, I realize our defense was awful, but Penn State shot 10-20 from 3 point range. WTF.
The ghost of Sandusky rose up with around 10:00 minutes left in the game and struck us in the ass
Why were we hedging hard on ball screens when they killed us last game doing that? Did the coaches not watch tape of the last game? Ugh...
The undervaluing of Zack Novak has never been more apparent. I'll take last years team over this one at this point.

I guess you conveniently forgot that the fab five used to take nights off like this, remember Northwestern 1993?
get a grip people
