We lost to a probable top ten team on the road in a saturday night game. Our team is arguably one of the youngest and most inexperienced in the nation, but we still only lost by 2 points and were a freshman mistake away a 5-1 record and a media QB controversy.
We turned the ball over 5 times - count 'em - and still found a way to almost steal it from them at their place in a blackout.
Our defense played great (well, not great but played tough and when it mattered most) and our offense found a way to turn it on when their backs were up against the wall.
We found out that our messiah, the great Tate Forcier, is human. This game will enable him to grow and mature as a quarterback....which will amount to many more wins than the one we would've earned last night.
We also saw messiah #2, the dilithium constructed Denard Robinson, lead his first meaningful TD drive of his career. He made a huge mistake at the end, but any other year a kid in his shoes would be wearing a redshirt.
Brandon Minor, who IMO is one of the best RB's in the country, showed flashes of brilliance and ran HARD AS HELL. Once his injury subsides and he becomes a larger part of the offense, things will really open up for Tate and Denard. Remember last year??
Our team is 4-2 with an OT loss to a good MSU team at their house and a 2 pt loss at Kinnick...which is arguably the toughest place to play in the Big Ten.
This team is extremely young and has no depth. Year 1 in a new defense and year 2 in a new offense.
We'll still play in a decent to good bowl game, work our kinks out and set the stage for a pre season top 15 ranking next year. Now the target is finishing strong and making sure we beat PSU and OSU....which will make our season IMO.
It sucked to lose that one, but we're definitely on our way up.
