We ARE Michigan

Submitted by Cold War on

The winningest program ever. Most winning seasons. Most undefeated seasons. The ones who taught Notre Dame how to play football. Holders of the all-time single game attendance mark.

We play in the Big House. We wear the winged helmet. The Victors is the greatest fight song ever. Eleven national titles, and we've turned down five. Forty two freaking Big Ten titles.

Yost. Crisler. Elliot. Schembechler. Oosterbaan. Kramer. Ford. Harmon. Woodson. Howard.

Fergodsake, I'm proud to be a Michigan Man. And oh, yes, our rivals are Ohio and little brother.  Did anyone stop calling us scUM or tsun when things were lean for them? Hell no.

When times are tough, you embrace all of this. You don't toss it away.

We're not the Michigan of old? Always have been, and always will be.

There's never been a stretch of this many mediocre seasons in Michigan history since like maybe Bump Elliot in the 60's.  So since Bo came on board and Michigan really became the Michigan everyone remembers, there's never really been a stretch like this.

do NOT blow off their team after a single game and don't tell me that you would feel the same if the score we're different

What the hell do you mean, "blow off their team?" People are asking some hard questions about the direction this program is going in light of the evidence. That's rational thought, not disloyalty.

We're all on spending our free time on MGoBlog because we're Michigan fans, guy.

I was also there from 1996-2000, and they were indeed awesome years, but at the same time, I do understand what the OP is trying to do and ask people to embrace the history of not only the program but really the culture of the Michigan program as well as that of the university which fosters it. I am as concerned as many about the direction of things right now (and like others, I don't find it entirely acceptable), but does it make me any less proud of the program and the school? Not in the slightest. I think that's where the OP was coming from. If so, I agree.

most of the 1960s when Bump was HC, even though he had many losing season, he was a Michigan man, and was the the Michigan man successor after Oosterbaan, who started off really well after Fritz but by the end had losing records in the late 50s.

In all seriousness I do appreciate you and your faith that this is not another lost year. I hope it is also I'm just not convinced. I just wish more of the fans who wish to be unyieldingly positive would recognize it is not hypocritical to be critical of this coaching staff yet a true fan of the program.

Shit, I'm not as confident in Hoke or the team as I would seem. I just recognize that constant, wall to wall bitching about it isn't going to help anything, and it's gets annoying as hell to boot. I'm with Brian, there's no reasonable course of action at this point other than to let the season play out and gather more data.

I hope the season ends well but I'm more worried about UT, PSU, and NU at home and the road game at East Lansing may be a loss cause! I'm not sure about OSU, we have a chance to beat them IMO! Are we going to be satisfied with 7-5 or 8-4 this season? If so Hoke & CO will have another year to prove themselves!

jdon is exactly right. I am so sick of M fans living in the past. TEN years since our last conference title, which is unacceptable. We need to stsrt winning now. I honestly do not know M keeps recruiting so well with how mediocre or even bad the football program has been for the past decade.

This kind of nonsense is exactly why opposing fan bases laugh at us and why we continue to make excuses for terrible performance.

this is our team.

this is our alma mater

But, right now it is frustrating.

For me it isn't the scores, the loses, or even how bad we look on the field.  It is the coach clapping in the fourth quarter, it is the players stedfast acceptance of failure, it is our fans trying to make excuse after excuse...

I want anger.  I want someone to appear pissed.  I want rage.

losing happens, unexpected bounces happen... but the way our players approach losing and winning as some sort of 'game' isn't acceptable; they are puttin all of their effort in, they are trying... IDK

Losing fucking sucks.

losing eats at our collective soul.

the acceptance of loses around here is embarrassing.

Lewan was plenty pissed last year. Didn't do anything to uplift the team. Rodriguez going apoplectic 20 times a game didn't make the defense good.

Obviously the team sucks right now and the program seems lost for the last 7 years, but it's absurd to think everybody has just given up. These guys worked their asses off all summer and in fall camp. You think they did that because they don't care? The team needs better coaching or better players or whatever, but I don't doubt they're trying.

If a coach is winning but gets irate, he looks passionate. If he's losing and gets irate, he looks like he's losing control of the team and his own mind. If a coach is winning and quiet, he looks stoic. If he's losing and quiet, he looks disinterested and meek.
