Before we all jump on the Hoke bandwagon...

Submitted by ademock27 on

I was doing little research and realized that SDSU only beat two teams with winning records this year and both were service academies (Air Force, Navy).  The rest of SDSU's wins this past season came against teams with final records of 4-7, 2-10, 4-8, 1-11, 3-9, 3-9, and 2-11.  After seeing this, my excitement  from this afternoon's press conference vanished.

I still will support any man who is the coach of Michigan, but this has caused me to revert back to pre-press conference feelings of uncontrollable nervousness.  That said, Go Blue!!

anyone is on the hokey pokey bandwagon here except in a "screw you we aren't going to sink to the level of the freep and other quasi michigan fans who actively tried to get RR fired" sort of way

we all want michigan to win big, this seems like a win medium move but whatever we'll see how it goes

what is going to happen?  It is "win big" if you want it to be win big.  Or, it is }win medium" if you want it to be win medium.  It is what it is and the ladder is undetermined.  I obviously define "is" differently than you.  Why?  Because we have no freaking clue yet.  Unless you're rolling in The DeLorean, you know nothing about the future!

If you say you support Michigan, support the coach.  If you tell me you and Hoke go way back and he is not a man of character, I'll entertain because at least you have some sort of credibility.

Other than that, your "win medium" comment doesn't mean shit. Your attitude is exactly what we don't need.  We have an awesome coach excited to be here.  Step 1...

it's okay to be skeptical. it's not going to make us lose games.

I don't like the hire. But I promise you I will be just as passionate and hyped for our student athletes come early september, as the fiercest of hoke fetishests.*

Do you really think that RichRod was as excited to be here as Hoke is?   I don't disagree that RR was excited to be here.   But the excitement level isn't compareable.   This has always been Hoke's "Dream Job" while it was just an escape from WV for RR.

I am a new arrival on the Hoke Bandwagon,,,I have trouble supporting before a coach has been identified,  I really hope that his record the last couple of years is more him than the total body of work.  That being said, it's refreshing to have a Michigan Man that loves being here and has his dream job.  Now lets see what he can do with it..Go Blue

Thanks for that bit of info that I clearly did not know already. Of course the board sentiments are going to change. What good does it do to keep bitching about not wanting him to be our coach? We've learned that it does nothing but make things better. It's time to move on.

Are you reading my posts or are you just spouting off sh*t?

I SUPPORT THE MICHIGAN FOOTBALL PROGRAM.  But just because I support Michigan football doesn't mean that I have to think that Brady Hoke's sh*t doesn't stink.

He doesn't walk on water, we aren't going to magically win a NC next year.  Let's temper expectations a bit shall we.

And then when they are met people jump to AA Torch and PItchfork.  Some people on this site think that the glass is half full, others think that it's half empty, all that I'm trying to say is that it's HALF it's just half until we get more data points.

Like I said, I haven't seen anyone spout off about how Hoke ownz Tressel or that we're going to rampage across the land and start winning titles immediately.  I see a collection of fans willing to support their coach and be a little bit excited and perhaps a tad irrational on occasion.  It's beyond our control, so can we just roll with it and be a little excited?  Come on man.  Look at that belly.

How do I get points?

Every time you post a comment or reply in a thread you get a point.

Wait… then why do I have negative 60?

You can't see this yet—you won't until you get to 100 points, naturally—but all posts/comments come with the ability to vote up or down on them. If you post things that are displeasing to the general populace, you will lose points as people downvote you. You get two points per upvote and minus one per downvote.

How can I avoid downvotes?

Don't be redundant. Don't use stupid nicknames like O$U. Spell things correctly. Don't post useless replies like "I agree" and whatnot.

What happens when I get huge numbers of negative points?

I get dinged and I check your profile out to see if you're pure troll or not, and ban appropriately.

Hoke might be a fine hire but he is not perfect and not above reproach.  I see a lot of untempered enthusiasm for this hire (much like I felt the last time).  But I've learned to be a bit more rational this time around and are looking for indicators that Hoke will be a great hire.  He says the right things so we will see, but I am seeing enthusiasm that is out pacing the facts.  I'm sure it will be fine but there are some issues and everything will not be perfect and we should not pretend they will be.

I'll support the coach and not be a douche but I think that it's right to be skeptical with his MEDIOCRE AT BEST record/accomplishments.

I find it sickening the level of support that Hoke got on his first day compared with the level of support that RR got his first day.  Many on the board think that Hoke is Jim Tressel or Bo Schembechler reincarnate.

You can have criticisms of the coach and be doubtful of him and still support him and the program.

You think that we should blindly follow him until he messes up, whereas I think that RR got the shaft and I'll be skeptical until he proves me wrong.  And I hope that he proves me wrong but the fawning over the guy is ridiculous.

No it is not ridiculous. It's called being a fan. When you say you support someone while saying that you are skeptical about him you are being completely hypocritical. Being skeptical is having doubts and to some degree expecting failure...

BlueArcflash

hypocritical is railroading one coach on day one then saying the next coach should be given as much time as it takes. what is that, and of course no one is big enough to face up to saying it. everyone here is a RR supporter now and no one bad mouthed him since hoke was hired.

The support we give is merely an assent of positive feeling with no real ramifications outside or our little world.  Yes, I expect some failure with Hoke based on lots of evidence of past performance and present conditions.  It doesn't mean I want failure but I am pragmatic enough to expect a certain amount of it.  If you a really such an uberfan maybe you should bet each weeks paycheck on a Michigan Victory.  If you wont does that mean you are a hypocrite fan who is skeptical, having doubts and expecting some degree of failure?

Well, seeing as 99.9% of bloggers here have 0 experience with coaching elite football programs, and profess undying love for all thing maize and blue, yes maybe we should blindly follow. What's the alternative right now? Complain and complain and complain until we truly become just like ND wandering the coaching carousel abyss?

I get that Hoke wasn't the sexy hire. I get that RR was treated unfairly when he got here. The MM meme is utter bullshit, at least the way it's thrown around lately. All  those things bother me. But what's done is done at this point, for better or worse. I'm not going to sit hire and whine and bitch about it and look at Hoke as the enemy until he proves me wrong. He seems like a genuine dude who has the right work ethic and might , just might succeed here.  That's enough for me to blindly follow the guy. At least until we get a sample size of greater than 0 Michigan football games.

I find it sickening the level of support that Hoke got on his first day compared with the level of support that RR got his first day.

I don't understand this line of reasoning.  Yes, it was completely unfair that a segment of our fanbase (as well as many former players) were opposed to RR from day one.  But why should we wish the same treatment on his successor?  It's bad enough that it happened once.

Look man, Coach RR is a fine coach i liked him and i wish him the best of luck whatever and where ever he ends up (unless its that that school in Ohio or  lil bro) but im not going to dwell on him leaving or getting fired anymore, its time to move on. Stop being so negative towards our coach, towards the new Michigan family member! Lets wish Coach Hoke the best and success for years to come and bring the program back to its winning ways!

No, I don't really plan on following Brady Hoke.  It's the players that need to follow and Brady Hoke's job to lead them.  Not me, I am proud to be a MICH fan.  My role is to support MICH.  Thats what fans do.  Maybe your more than that.  Whatever that means.

Am I skeptical about him being the best man for the job, sure.  But he has the job and me spending hours analyzing his past acimpishments, or lack of them,  or worrying about his lack of them; isn't going to change that. Nor is it going to lead to any constructive or positive outcome.

Yes,  I seek reasons for hope rather than reasons for more despair in somethng I have no real stake in, other than the stake I choose to put in it.  That does not make me a sheep.
