WC of Softball: Border Battle V live on ESPN (8:00 ET)

Some big news for the USA this week, with presumed starting pitcher Kalani Ricketts not playing in the tournament. This tournament is also important because it's the last event before the IOC meets in September to add either wrestling, squash or baseball/softball for 2020.

Former Wolverine Amanda Chidester is on the roster tonight, and will help team USA try to defeat Canada in Oklahoma City.

I'm kind of torn with this game. I'm friends with one of the Canadians on the field and one in the dugout, so maybe have it end at like 9-1 in 4.5 as opposed to 8-0. OTOH, 'Murica, so I don't know if there should be any mercy for the girls from the Great White North.

Go Canada!! Fans of the sport who want it in the Olympics should be rooting for Canada too right?? Isn't that why it was dropped? No competition

Interestingly, the Santa Fe New Mexican put out a good article on the World Cup (HERE).

For those who plan to watch throughout the weekend:

"Along with Japan and the U.S., Australia and Canada (third and fourth, respectively, at the World Championships) have capable squads. The five teams will play a round-robin tournament from Wednesday through early Sunday afternoon. After that, the fourth- and fifth-place teams will play, then that winner will play the third-place squad, followed by the top two finishers playing for the championship."

The article also does a nice job summarizing the effort to get softball back on the IOC radar, complete with some quotes from people involved in this tournament which detail how they feel that this effort matters for the sport.
