Just got a text from a friend with a Scout membership and was informed that Michigan and Wayne Morgan have parted ways. He was the silent commit as well. It sounds like Jarrod Wilson is who the staff is after now to fill that last DB slot. These guys don't mess around.

Wayne Morgan Update
If true, this really saddens me; I liked Wayne and know he loved Michigan.
You're write up about Morgan sounds pretty accurate from what I've heard.
Shitstorm in... 3... 2...
Regardless were Wayne ends up playing college ball at. Good luck to him. Wonder what happened over the last 48-72 hours that it all went down hill.
Focus now is on solidifying the 4th DB spot (safety). Offensive Line, DT's & securing Mr. Wormley. Go get em Hoke & Co.
Is there any reason why that we might know of?? Are the coaches the ones directing this ship now or has the recent commit of Standifer caused this to happen? Hmm, sorry to hear though. Seemed like a legit kid.
Reasons weren't given but apparently the coaching staff informed Wayne and his coaches of the decision earlier today, so for whatever reason, the coaches appeared to have backed off.
is it that hard to put 2 and 2 together? They just picked up Standifer and need a true safety for this class. It seems to me that they were waiting for one of either he or Standifer to committ and he just took too long. Now (if what the guy above says is accurate) they are focusing on a true safety and Wilson would be a great one.
I liked MOrgan a lot, but of all the DBs we have been in on, the two I was most excited about from the start were Richardson and Wilson. I would love to have him.
This also sends a pretty strong message to other recruits out there. UM is filling up fast and if you want in, you better get in now. I feel bad for Morgan but he will land on his feet somewhere.
If true, I wonder what happened to change things so dramatically?
Tatgate is what happened. It's open season on Ohio and OSU recruits.
I saw the article on Scout, but I don't have an account, so I wasn't sure what happened. I thought it was something like this from what DG tweeted. Does anyone have any details about the "parting of ways?" We heard as late as today that they were still on good terms.
This is sort of a mixed occurrence to me because I've been a huge fan of Jarrod Wilson, but I really like Morgan as well. I hope we can land Wilson.
Needs to post the TomVH call light!
tyler o'conner may be commiting soon any word on that?
NW or Mich St
one is a ivy league school in Chicago that goes bowling every year. The other is all like "so am I bro and like, we recruit nationally around the nation!"
prior to ivy league.
and they technically don't go bowling EVERY year and i don't technically want to type a million qualifiers on my iphone since i am clumsy enough on it already.
really good point though.
According to MSU, it's between NW and MSU I believe.
its either time so push harder for Gunner Kiel and if he doesnt come then go after Austin Appleby before other schools realize how good he is
Well that's really a shame. Is that Morgan just wants to make more time and Michigan wants to fill the position quickly, or is he just not that comfortable with UM? If he's going to part ways, better than late in the process. I really liked Morgan, but I also like Wilson, but haven't heard anything about him and UM recently. Hopefully it works out.
but it seems like Hoke & Co. are laying it out there like "of those offered, we want whomever wants us". Those who commit first will be Champions.
Want to come to Michigan? The empty lockers are filling up fast, so pull the trigger and let's do this thing.
Silent Commits don't equal Commits.
And for that matter, commits don't equal signed letter of intents.
I'm kind of upset about the way this happened though. I assume that to be a silent commit, the coaches accepted his commitment, and knew the date he was planning to announce. Then, they accepted the commitments of Gant and Standifer and basically gave Morgan a big f-u. What's up with that? I'm all for a super class or whatever, but I assumed that silent commitments were to "save a spot" and announce when you're ready. Clearly that's not what happened in Morgan's case, and I think that's terrible. I'm not trying to start fights or whatever, but I honestly don't understand what happened, and I don't think it's fair to Morgan who (I'm sure) thought his spot was safe with his silent commitment.
You said it yourself ("...but I don't understand what happened"), but you probably just don't know all the details. All we've heard about these coaches from the recruits so far is how honest and down-to-earth they are. Assuming that they just yanked his spot doesn't really fit the pattern.
anyone with inside information EVER saying that Morgan was the silent committ. Many people here obviously assumed it was, but no one like Tim, Tom or anyone I would give credence to said it definitively. Perhaps he wasn't the silent committ? Maybe that silent committ is still out there.
Sam Webb said in his piece that Morgan was the silent.
From what I have read about it, you are a little off in saying the coaches said F U to him. It looks more like his coach and family telling him to take his time with the process and take all of the visits. He pushed back his announcement and decided to take all official visits, so the staff told him that they were looking at others to fill the spot and if he waited that long, his spot will be gone. This didn't make Wayne happy and both have now gone their seperate ways.
I hope its not us backing off thinking we can do better. That's SEC work. Would guess that is not the case.
more his family and coaches wanting him to take his time
and then dumping him in August.
The post I'm replying to isn't "trolling". In my opinion it is "overrated" just because that's the most accurate of the available options (even though that isn't great either), but he isn't actively trying to stir the pot or actively trolling.
I do sense I will get a "trolling" moderation tag for this, but personally I think it is closer to "overrated" or at least "flamebate" personally.
does Morgan holding off on his commitment equal a total parting ways?
But I always thought that Wilson fit a bigger area of need. Best of luck to Morgan however, he seems to be a good guy.
I feel bad for Morgan if this wasn't his decision, but hopefully it all ends well and he ends up somewhere where he can be successful.
It's nobody's decision but his own.
I don't know if that's even true. It sounds like he wanted to commit (or even was a silent commit), but the coaches backed off. Which would make it not his decision.
that don't want to go public when the class is filling fast leads to the staff backing away. It appeared Morgan was ready and wouldn't be for awhile. The staff decided to go in a different direction and I hope it doesn't bite them in the arse. Wayne postponed the original announcement and then postponed again. Hoke and company didn't feel like waiting any longer for a kid that already told them he wanted to be blue, but didn't want to tell the public.
With only four spots currently left we could be in a world of hurt. We need at least three more Oline and two DTs. The staff has to know more current players are going to transfer or they are confident we have enough skill players on offense that we don't need to recruit any this year.
Even though it appears like we're running out of room right now, I've heard that the coaching staff is recruiting as if they have 22-25 spots available. I'd be surprised if we didn't end up with another SDE, 2 DTs, 3 OL, 1 DB, 1 WR, & maybe even 1 QB/RB in addition to what we already have. I don't know how the staff is going to make room for everyone, hopefully they won't have to go all Saban to do it.
I think all our 5 foot 6-8 lil guys will xfer to a bigeast or mac school where they belonged in the first place. unless they want to play special teams their whole career. there were already a few that left to open up slots. for once attrition might be good. ha!
I would only welcome attrition in the event that there is a coaching/scheme change, which obviously applies now. Kids that signed up to play for Rich Rodriguez and/or a 3-3-5 and/or a spread offense are certainly encouraged to find a program where they can be properly utilized. Having said that, those that stay will be champions.
Double post.
I do think it's a bit harsh to say that our "shorties" are not Big Ten caliber. I can't remember any slot ninjas- or the offense in general-losing us any games.
Check his Twitter account. Bummer.
Too bad when he caused a lot of excitement and discussion being the silent commit.
Oh well good luck to him wherever he ends up.
This coaching staff doesn't mess around one bit-Morgan seems like a great player-but obviously there are bigger needs with a true safety than another tweener.
If losing out on Morgan means snagging Wilson I think we'll all manage
I'm confused. The coaches backed off a 4 star top 150 defensive player but recently accepted a pair of generic 3 stars? Admittedly, I don't know shit about football recruiting but it seems a bit odd. Academic or character issues maybe?
At this point though, I trust their judgement. At the end of the day you win and lose with "your guys", so if they're confident in Standifer and Gant, I will follow suit.
It might be part of an ongoing effort to establish/maintain our staff's ties to key Ohio HS programs.
Your speculation is incorrect.
Fair enough. What evidence do you have to support your statement?
Are you asking what evidence I have that the coaches stopped recruiting a top rated player from New York to pursue a player who is good but not as well received by the scouts from various websites so they can maintain a presence in the lower regarded player's state?
Maybe there's a few other up-and-comers on the guy's team, or someone from the HS coach's staff knows somebody from the Michigan coaching staff. There could be any number of mitigating factors here. Maybe we just want to maintain momentum in Ohio. Who knows. I just find it hard to shut the door on some kinds of speculation as opposed to others when Ohio HS programs are producing a lot of recruits this year, and will have similar good years in the future.
It's all good. Although Morgan was really highly touted I had wanted Wilson in this class from the first time I saw his film and heard his coach (Ricky Powers who is a former UofM football player) talk about his game and what kind of person he is. I feel like this staff won't sit on their hands for a recruit and this kind of proves that. They are setting a precedent and I love it. Get on board or we'll move on and find someone who REALLY wants to be apart of Michigan. That is my opinion, anyway.
I posted something similar (above, and 13 hours later!).
I LOVE the precedent...the train's leaving the station, get your arse aboard or someone else will take your seat. IMO this is why we're getting so many early commits. Pipkins and Shittu...this class goes mega-platinum with your commitments.
Is it possible that Mr. Wilson is a 'silent commit'?
Completely OT and random, but did the recent addition of the third Starship Troopers movie to Netflix instant viewing put you on Casper Van Dien kick, and return you to a yearing for the good old days of at least B+ movie effects? Cause it did me.
that Anthony Standifer is from Crete ILLINOIS...?
No offense to him, but Morgan could play Safety or CB, as potentially could Standifer. Gant, to the eyes of most, is the most athletically limited. I personally felt they should have waited until he camped to extend an offer to see if they were full with people who IMO seem to be better prospects. Maybe they didn't think Gant would commit so fast, I'm not sure.
Oh well, hope this all works out and hope the coaches get the guys they want
I too was very intrigued with the fact that Morgan can play both CB and S for us where Gant seems to be limited. Anyway best of luck to Wayne
I know what you mean about versatility, but I am looking at it a little differently. Part of what I like about Gant is that he is a true, hard hitting, run stopping safety. I get that he isn't so likely to step in at safety, but is that such a bad thing? I'd rather take two true safeties and two true corners if I have my choice, as opposed to four catch-all DBs. Let's just wait and see how this plays out - it may work out for us quite well in the end . . .
Part of what I like about Gant is that his father rocked the position in Maize and Blue and his uncle (cousin?) won the Heisman Trophy and dominated the world while playing for Michigan.
and he's a legacy. You've seen Animal House. It's important for the future to stay true to your past.
I have seen Animal House, but I'm also a samurai from the 1800s feudal Japan. I know from experience that staying too true to your past and not looking to future leads to Meiji Restoration which leads to WWII which leads to 2 atomic bombs which leads to one of the largest technological revolutions the world has ever seen.
Samurai + Nintendo = $$$
Tip of the cap to you sir, but:
I've seen Animal House as so have Braylon Edwards and Troy Woolfolk (both 3 star legacy recruits).
While you could possible make that argument for Gant, taking a legacy kid in OH really helps keeps relationships up. But the generic 3-star argument shouldn't work for Standifer. He's already started to gain steam in recruiting circles, and it's lucky we got him early. His film is very impressive, and the only thing that's gonna keep him from being a truly elite prospect is his speed.
I figure I'll trust GMat's talent evaluation over Allen Trieu's every day.
No doubt. But if I can't vent my completely uninformed opinions on high school football juniors I've never seen before then I really don't know what I'll do with my time. Besides...I am the liquor.
Bong in the background=excellence.
That's something you don't see in the Midwest every day.
once the ball dropped on Tresselgate Hoke and Company have seen a kink in the fence around Ohio. and if you can take talent from Ohio you should prefer it to a kid from the east coast. take that talent away from your competition. especially if Morgan doesnt go to the big ten. its strategy to lock down the recruiting scene localy and push Osu Msu Notre dame etc. it brilliant IF we get equal talent.
Can we possibly hope that this is just an amazingly clever way to re-implement the suspense of his announcement, considering the way his "silent commitment" went not-so-silent?
I was tipped off about Wilson a little while ago, I'm trying to get a hold of Ricky Powers. One of Morgan's coaches mentioned the fact that Michigan was still recruiting DB's even after Wayne's silent commitment. Mentioned as in they weren't happy about it. I'm not sure why since we all knew they have told other DB's how many they would take.
As long as they know that he will have competition at any big time college he goes to. Maybe that's why they are pushing Rutgers.
Is the interest reciprocal?
Hmm, that is a bit interesting. When Morgan was the silent commit, Richardson was our only other DB, so wouldn't they know we were still gonna go after some more? Confusing, but oh well. I really like Wilson, espeically his protoypical size for a safety, so if we can get him, it would be OK to me. Really like Morgan though.
Unless they were under the impression that would be it for DB's. But the staff has been open with a few recruits in saying they were looking for 3-4 (maybe even 5) DBs so I'm not sure what would have happened there...
It seems to be a case of just deciding to move on. If you have a supposed silent commit and he keeps putting off his public announcement, that sends a message that he's having second thoughts.
Wow. They must not be too familiar with recruting and how it works.
if thats the case maybe its for the best
I think the coaches have confidence in Standifer staying at corner and wanted another sure safety in the class, bringing us to where we are at today.
I think Morgan's spot was taken by Gant. If Gant doesn't commit on Tuesday, Standifer's commitment is probably for the first safety spot, and Morgan still announces today. Then Gant ends up the one left out in the cold.
Either way I hope Wayne the best and I'm sure he will succeed wherever he goes.
EDIT: Just saw the posts saying it might have been Wayne who stepped back first (which makes more sense seeing the events with him the past few days). Still wish him the best.
He was probably scared off by this new investigation of Denard running drugs for a Mexican drug cartel after escaping from prison by digging a tunnel under a poster of Rita Hayworth.
/OSU 247'd
Is claims he was selling tickets for shit tons of money. Tickets to WHAT?! Michigan was bowl-less for one year and I doubt UM family Cap One tickets were stunning. What a joke
Is that really what they are claiming? That's some serious deflection right there. I guess they can't handle what is going on with osu at the moment. It's understandable.
Click the locked thread on here about it. The fact boosters would force Robinson to stay but let mallett walk is a joke in of itself
Take this FWIW, as I didn't read it myself, but my OSU-fanatic friend who religiously reads Bucknuts and OSU's Scout site said that not too long ago a poster was claiming to have purchased Denard's game tickets for a game (the OSU game?). The "forced him to stay" thing is obviously total crap...I won't be surprised, though, if OSU fans start to try to get Michigan players in trouble. That sounds a bit much as I type it, but we're talking about a bunch of lunatics.
Wish Wayne the best. Hopefully he'll find a place where he is a good fit.
I know, I know - read the above posts, etc etc, but just so the slow among us (AKA me) can follow, am I correct in reading that UM cooled off on Wayne, then he cooled on us? Seems a little like the Ron Thompson thing, if that is the case.
Can anyone tell me anything interesting about Jarrod Wilson? I had mostly been looking at the guys that seemed more likely, Morgan and Reeves.
And good luck to you Wayne, wherever you decide to go. We would have liked you here, but you have to go where you feel comfortable.
EDIT: It's probably all over for Wilson - I see that Sparty has offered him, and they are a national power . . .
Haha, sillly sparty think that they are a national power...but seriously, I actually read somewhere that MSU is on his short list of top choices, and we are not. But who knows, as that was from an MSU source. Hopefully we turn heat up on him.
Woooooh!
It sounds like we still wanted him, but were still recruiting other guys. He didn't like that, cooled off on us. It seems to happen every year, c'est la vie.
As for Wilson...he is a huge Safety prospect in Ohio. A lot of friends in OH are shocked that TSIO is not recruiting him. Duane Long, Buckeye blogger, loves him.
Really gotta trust the coaches on this one. Hopefully they are pretty damn sure Jarrod Wilson will commit here. To lose out on such a high recruit in Morgan who was silently commited here and not get Wilson would suck.
Isn't part of the thing with Morgan is that his coaches have never had such a high profile kid before come through their program and from the sounds of things it kinda sounds like they are trying to protect their kid.
It seems like their first priority is giving their kid the best chance to play early and I'm fine with that. So no harm no foul, sorry it didn't work out for either of us but best of luck to the kid and hope he ends up having a great career for himself.
He had a space reserved, so his coaches shouldn't care if M was recruiting other DBs.
I don't really understand why they parted ways. Maybe the coaches didn't like him going back on his word by delaying the public announcement or taking back the silent?
If the coaches liked him a player then they take him in jan or whenever if space allows.
Unless the coaches cooled on him as a player, which seems odd since there really isn't any new film on him...
Maybe Hoke just really wants to wrap this class up and start on the 2013 class...
Thoughts?
But maybe he will change his mind before Signing Day. Amen.
So what's the profile on Wilson? Couldn't fond his film on YouTube. Can someone fill me in
6'3", close to 200 lbs., and he's a 4-star to Rivals, Scout and 247. He'll be a free safety in college. Really athletic and a ballhawk. Could actually end up being one of the best safeties for us in a long time if he commits.
His head coach is former Wolverine Ricky Powers.
Wayne Morgan who?
kids got great ball skills. looks extremely comfortable catching the ball with his hands and away from his body. id like to see a bit more of him in coverage, but i definitely see a few pick sixes in this kids future
This kid had 10 interceptions and returned 5 of them for touchdowns. This guy isn't one of my top DB targets, he's one of my top targets overall. I've been enamored with this kid once I read what his coach, who played here, had to say with him. He's one of those kids you know would just fit right into Michigan. If we can get him, I will be thrilled.
Really interested to see how our DB situation works out with our depth situation in the next few years.
I dont know if somebody can confirm but I think Wilson just visited...looks like a straight up ball hawk. I think Mattison knows what those look like
He was in Ann Arbor earlier this week.
Any news on how it went? Earlier he didn't even have UM in his top 5.
Ialways assumed Michigan wanted both.
Just found this on Twitter...
Mattison was the D-line coach the last two years of Powers' career at UM, so there could be a nice connection there...
This is a shame and it's disappointing to lose out on a silent no matter what. Still, best of Luck to Wayne and I hope he was the one who backed off rather than the new staff reneging.
Does this mean that Sparty will offer Morgan in the hopes that they land a recruit that "Michigan really wanted"?
Personally, I would prefer they stick with 3 DBs and fill the rest of the spots with O-line, D-line and WR, maybe a RB if we can get Dunn. We seem to be in on a large number of stud lineman this year, many of whom were also looking closely at OSU. If we can pull some of those, I think we will be fine in the secondary after all the recruits we brought in last year.
Does anyone know why OSU didn't offer him, definitely seems worthy of an offer. Was he just not interested in them... even before the shitstorm?
several times in the state playoffs last year, which were televised on STO. He's a player and I was wondering why we weren't on him more than we were given his talents, his position, and our connection to Powers.
I'm happy to see we've upped the attention.
