Way Too Early Weather Forecast: Big Chill Edition
It's December 2nd, which means the 10-day weather forecast provided by The Weather Channel extends all the way to December 11th, the date of the Big Chill at the Big House. Now, I realize a 10-day weather forecast is about as accurate as a Brendan Gibbons field goal attempt (...too soon?), but let's take a look:
The Forecast
Daytime: High of 34F and partly cloudy. 20% chance of precipitation and wind from the NW at 11 mph.
Nighttime: Overnight low of 26F with a snow shower. 30% chance of precipitation and wind from the W at 7 mph.
What Does it Mean for the Players?
Well, uh, I think it might be cold down on the ice. Unless it snows heavily during the game there shouldn't be a huge effect on the players, although the ice conditions in temporary rinks and outdoor rinks (we have both!) can sometimes be unpredictable.
What Does it Mean for the Fans?
All things considered it doesn't sound too bad. The temperature will be hovering around freezing, but most importantly there's not a lot of wind in the forecast. If things stay calm it should be a fairly comfortable viewing experience.

Anybody plan to tailgate...outside?

Our group is planning our usual football saturday weekend for the Big Chill. Should be pretty fun and similar to the cold weather for the Wisconsin game.

I mean i saw some frost and had a hat on in the morning of the Wisc. game but it was not cold at all during the game. I'm guessing most will take a few more measures for warmth. Walls for the tent, propane heaters, fire pits, grilling just to have the grill on, shots of whiskey, etc.
Are they doing parking at the golf course and pioneer? I assume Pioneer but I was wondering if normal football parking options were available.

U-M AD already got my $20 to park there in the Purple Lot. And I'd read that the AAG&O would be open, also for $20, weather permitting, of course.
Yeah, standard tailgate package will be in use, canopy, propane heater, grill, crockpot, handwarmers, footwarmers, plenty of alky bevy.
Stay warm and stay safe, people!

From annarbor.com article "Parking, traffic for The Big Chill at the Big House similar to football Saturdays in Ann Arbor":
All of the University of Michigan lots, including at the Michigan Golf Course, will be used, weather permitting. Each lot and the golf course will charge $20. Parking will cost $15 at Ann Arbor Golf and Outing.
Due to construction at the Michigan Golf Course, no parking will be permitted on the driving range.

Only for about 8 hours. Please God no wind and no freezing rain.

Our group too is taking this like a football Saturday. Arrival time is still to be determined (we usually are in the Blue lot right before 6 am). We'll have our tents, heaters, HD Sat. TV and all the needed food and drink to keep you warm. Even picked up some of Tom Brady's newest product line - some nice warm UGGs.... ;-)
I've been to the Cold War, and The Camp Randall Classic, and we tailgated like football at both, this should be great. Weather was freezing at both the other two games, this is looking better.
Go Blue!

That sound like good hockey weather.
The Big House will help obstruct the wind, and the ice will stay frozen.
The worst weather would be warm and rain.
They like it hard. :)

This sounds perfect. I actually wouldn't even mind snow. I am so damn pumped for this game.

I'd love to see some snow as I think that just makes an awesome atmosphere for outdoor hockey. But please no freezing rain. We don't need another Northwestern game from a couple years ago.
Either way I'll be tailgating and am excited to take in my first live M hockey game.
Then we'll be staying over in A2 and hopefully hit up the Imax.
