Way too early 2013 College Football Rankings from Andy Staples

Submitted by nmumike on

Since we had never too early bracketology post I figured I would post the way too early college football rankings from Staples.

He has us as at #12 only behind OSU in the BIG. I think with our schedule being more favorable this year we end up in the top 10, as long as we can run the ball (MANBALL). What say you Mgo community?

Of course he has Alabama, TX A&M and Oregon at or near the top.

The teams he has above us all have more proven difference-makers than we do, and the teams below us all have more question marks.

I don't like Stanford at #3. Their defense should be excellent, but their O was really pedestrian this year (they scored 28 or more just 4 times in 14 games) and they lose most of their playmakers. They were 8-2 in games decided by 7 points or less, making them basically a 9-5 or 10-4 team that caught a bunch of breaks and ended up 12-2.

Every time I see rankings like this I want to know what the hell is being ranked. Is it how good the teams are or where they're likely to end the season given their schedules? If I were doing rankings, I'd provide both, and I could see them being pretty different from one another. (Michigan 2012, for example.)

I think we finish better than this. Given our schedule we could be rated even higher. Given our performance this year, we should be ranked lower. Just win and it won't matter anyway

I say this is too low but I'll take it for now. I know we will have inexperience at a few positions but I think we're 11-0 going into The Game. IMO Gardner has a shot to have a Heisman type season. Defense will be much improved too.
