Way to score free UM - IU Tickets

Submitted by StephenRKass on

So my daughter is a senior in HS, and just got a recruiting postcard from Indiana offering a pair of free tickets to one of three games, including Michigan. We filled out the form online, and now have a ticket to the game for both of us. It includes a IU sponsored tailgate as well.

Catch:  you obviously will have to sit through a recruiting spiel, and you have to know someone who IU wants to recruit as a student. But the "guest" coming along can be anyone. So if you have a younger brother or sister, or a son or a daughter who's a HS senior, and you live within driving distance, this is a cheap (free!) way to get a pair of tickets to the Michigan - Indiana game, and a meal to boot. Smacks of a timeshare sales pitch, but I can live with that. It's bonding time with my daughter, after all.

for recruiting when you both show up in M gear.

That said, IU actually has quite a few excellent academic programs, so I would definitely encourage her to take a look at what they offer. That's a fine degree right there.

That also said... how sad is it that they have to give tickets away to PROSPECTIVE students, no obligation required, to help fill their stadium?

Apparently, you can go to an IU game for $5 if you are 1) with and IU student and 2) have a student ID of any school that is NOT the opposing team.  Not sure about how valid this rumor but it game via a friend that goes to IU.  I will say that a few years ago, tickets were given to me at a tailgate and there were quite a few offers for free or cheap tickets.  A lot of students go to tailgate and don't care about the game.

I spent 2 years as a student at IU and, yeah, they pretty much give the tickets away... I think it was $7 for a ticket.  They were also giving tickets to the bowl game away to anyone willing to make the trip out there.  Tailgating was awesome, and I got to see UM and Wisconsin play there so that was cool.

Also, they take photos of the stadium whenever OSU or Wisconsin plays there to make it appear full.

To the OP, IU really is a great school and beautiful campus.  Enjoy your visit there!
