Way OT-Need laptop bag recommendation

Submitted by mattkast on
My old backpack is starting to fall apart, and having to put my laptop into a sleeve all the time gets annoying. I have a 15 inch MBP (the new, slim one), and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a messenger bag or backpack? Thanks in advance

I am currently using a 15" MBP as well. I have been using a Chrome messenger bag for about 5 years. Great design, made in USA,lifetime warranty, but I do see alot more of them on the streets than when I bought mine in SF. They are element proof, as long as you don't submerge them. Nearly indestructible, I have used mine for everything, and haven't been able to scar it yet, without a doubt the toughest bag I've ever seen.I use a neoprene sleeve sized for the pro inside of the bag. http://www.chromebagsstore.com/bags/messenger-bags/metropolis-buckle-ba… Last week I visited the Freitag store in Zurich, and I must say their bags are great. I bought a bag for someone as a holiday gift, but I will have to get my own bag soon. I would wait for my Chrome to wear out, but that will never happen. No two bags are alike, as they are made from recycled goods. I saw a ton of these bags while riding the trains in Switzerland. http://www.freitag.ch/shop/FREITAG/shop.jsf#/families=messenger

There are a lot of vendors out there who make bags specifically for Macs. Solid brand names that come to mind are: STM, Speck, Tucano and Incase. Personally I have a Timbuk2 bag, solid/cool looking bag, decent price.

Can't afford a bag after dropping 2k for the notebook eh? I actually found mine at a Marshals - lucky/random find. I have a 13.3" pc and bag. Fits great, snug on the sides, enough room on top for the power brick/cord. Just hopped over to their site btw, looks like they're having a sale through the 7th.

I've got a 17" MacBook and carry it around in one of these: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW219ZM/A?n=backpacks&fnode=MTY1NDA2N… It's got plenty of room even with the laptop inside and is actually one of the slimmer bags I've seen. Pretty minimal with lots of pockets for a charger, ipod, etc. Would definitely recommend it. They also make a "sling" pack, which is the same with one less pocket and one diagonal strap. I had a swiss army pack for my last computer and thought it worked great too.

I got the Oakley Icon 2.0 backpack on sale for about $50 from steepandcheap.com which is a clearance website for backcountry.com. It's held up to about 2.5 years of lugging my law books and laptop around. The biggest flaw for me, both of the zipper handles for the main compartment broke so I had to borrow parachute ties from another backpack.

I can vouch for the incase backpack that RDubs mentioned above. I use that one for school since it can hold books and a laptop. Also it has the cleaner look than Targus, Swiss, Ogio, Oakley, etc. When I don't need to carry books around I use my Patagonia Single Shot. (It seems that this years model does not come with a laptop sleeve also they changed the materials.) http://www.patagonia.com/web/us/shop/luggage?k=1G&ps=1 They do have messenger bags that have laptop sleeves. Patagonia products tend to last a very long time.
