Way OT: MGoPuppy Name
Need help from the community here on this one. I found a great dog from a shelter that I will be adopting tomorrow. I am trying to think of Michigan themed names and so far all I have come up with that seem sensible are... He's a yellow lab mix
Henne
Harmon
Maize
Woodson
any help from the board on this would be great thanks!
Nard Dog
My friend actually named her cat 'Denardo' which was often shortened to 'nardo'
Forward looking and unique to date.
Now that is a true Michigan fan dog's name. Unfortunately, the name is the easy part. Getting the dog to watch the game with you is the impossible part. Every dog I've had hides when the Michigan game is on.
Have you told the dog that GERG is gone yet?
Lloyd Brady Hoke
Our labs name is Schemey...after Bo of course. As others have said stay away from naming them Bo as it creates confusion in its similarities to "No," and personally I feel it's unfair to your new family member. I've also heard to stick with names that are no more than two syllables as it helps with training.
Here's some prior board posts on the topic that may help as well.

Stole my name! My fiance and I have already discussed this, and the first dog we get will be called Schemey, followed by either Brady or Mr. Hoke and then Lloyd. It's a wonderful thing.
That is all.
Shoelace
MGoDog
I bought a dog last December and went through a similar process. The classic, and probably far too obvious, is Bo. After thinking about it a whole I narrowed it down to players that made an impact while I was at school. In conclusion, I named my dog Woodley
Additionally, for reference, I know for a fact that Shawn Hunwick's dog's name is Maizey
Hunwick's not bad.
My 1 year old daughter is named Maisey.. I talked mom into the name, but mom got to spell it how she liked.
Saddened by the fact that i cannot steal Woodley. That is a fine name sir... fine name
Blue
I think it's a humongous Rottie mix.
I'm proud to say my Woodley is a Chinese shar pei. I recommend everyone look up a picture of one in case you've never seen one.
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog". I assume your sharpei is a total badass.
/this post references figuative fights and figurative dogs. I in no way, shape or form endorse actual dog fighting. See the picture of my 38lb lab mix below.
I tried to name my shar pei A-Train. But her being female and being out voted by the wife and daughter, I now have Buttercup. She wears a pink diamond studded collar. I fought for Victoria so it would be close to Victors, but lost that too. but she does high five after Michigan scores. If I give her a treat.
Our family went with Bo for our pooch. It was the better choice than his full name (Unicorn RainBOw Schembechler, clearly the kids had differing opinions)
Fielding
Bo
Fritz.
Lloyd.
Basically any of the former coaches first names.
Have to go with Fielding here, one of my favorites from Six Zero's The Blockhams. I'm glad someone mentioned it!
Former coaches provide great names - ours is Bennie, also a yellow lab mix!
Odoms.
That's perfect.
Brady
Two birds with one stone right there
i named our dog Maddie Stafford. She is a female American Staffordshire Terrier. I am a huge Michigan sports fan (Lions, duh) and my girlfriend is a UGA grad. We were both happy with the name.
But I was really wanting a boy to name him Charles Woodson.
I do like Henne and Shoelace as options for you though.
Already picked out for MY next Golden Retriever, but I am in a giving mood and will let you use it... but just this one time!
Already have a dog named Brady.
Fitzgerald. Fitz for short... He's going to have a big year.
but I have a friend who has a dog named Rodriguez... and yes, he is named after the ex-head coach.
...hard working, wears his heart on his sleeve, but somehow doesn't quite live up to expectations. Still, your friend must love him.
My dog will be named Barkley after Charles Barkley or because dogs bark, whichever story I choose.
That's turrible. Completely turrible.
What a knucklehead.
Nobody has mentioned Braylon yet?
Since it's a retriever, I think Braylon will be ok with that.
Carter
Hoke Borgeson or
Touchdown! (TD for short). Then every time you're watching Michigan play and they score a TD, your dog will come running, wagging his tail and join in the celebration.
I always thought Woodson would be a sweet name for a dog. So would "Blue".
We have an 8 year old Doberman named Woodson
I got a 15 month old red nose pit bull named Woodson too.
Just name him
WHEATLEY
Blue.
A relative of mine has tortoises and two of their names are Maize and Blue. So when they take, off he says "Go Blue!"
I had a maize tortilla once...and some blue tortilla chips!
the same thing 4 years ago with my Lab/Pittbull mix. I'm also a hunter and ended up picking Gunner. But the two names we were down to were Gunner and Runyan. I don't know but it seemed like a cool name for a dog but since my wife didn't know who he was she voted for Gunner.
