Way OT: Hurricane Irene Open Thread

Submitted by profitgoblue on

I was thinking that this thread could serve as a way for people in the line of Hurricane Irene's fire to keep all of us MGoMembers updated as to their status and experience.  Looks like eastern North Carolina is already starting to get hammered and is in for a sh-tty next two days.  Check out the NWS radar:  http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=MHX&product=NCR&overlay=11101111&loop=yes

Anyone in NC able to check in and update all of us on how you're weathering the storm?

[EDIT:  Looks like I should be a CNN reporter:  http://ireport.cnn.com/open-story.jspa?openStoryID=655725#DOC-660225]

(If this is just too off-topic for y'all, feel free to shut this down - I definitely will not be offended.  I just thought it might be interesting for people in other parts of the country to see how a hurricane affects people on the east coast, especially since this could be the storm of the century as far as the Mid-Atlantic and New England is concerned.)

was already pre-poned from 7:00 pm to 2:00 pm tomorrow.  But now that they're cutting out all public transportation as of noon, I wonder if they'll completely cancel the game.

EDIT: As of the evening sports report, game is still on for 2:00 pm.

I live 30 miles from the epicenter of Tues quake and now I am under a 'tropical storm warning'. This has been the damn strangest week of my life. Someone at work today asked if I have the essentials stocked up. Yep.... a case of beer, 2 bottles of wine. Should be good.

On the bright side, I did have the feeling that with the earthquake and a hurricane I had every right to call that little hottie who told me she would only go out with me if the end of the world was coming.

mgoshoe will appreciate this: the clouds are moving SSW in Raleigh Durham ... (i.e., we are well to the west).

A dad at football tryouts told his brother in Moorehead City was getting really heavy weather already / is all boarded up and ready to ride.

We are just hanging out here bracing for it to get worst.  I live about 10 miles from where it is forcast to make landfall.  Glad it will most likely hit as a Cat 2.  Just hope she doesn't slow down.  We are getting about 30-40 mph gusts and heavy rain right now.  Power has already been off and on a couple of times.  Just a matter of time before we are playing Monopoly by candle light.  Everyone in the path stay safe.

So, I live in southern PA.

Just moderate drizzle and breezy. If you look at the radar, it looks like DOOM over our heads right now.

But, no doom. Just clouds, breeze and drizzle.

The dog even wants to go outside.
