WAY OT: Everyday use of MGoBlog meme

Submitted by readyourguard on

I was working with our QBs and WRs at our football camp last week, and my QB threw a ball 3 feet over the head of the receiver.  Without thinking, I yelled out, "NICE CATCH TACOPANTS." Of course, everyone stopped, stared, and asked "who is Tacopants?"  To which I responded, "He's Jason Avant's 11foot imaginary friend who is made of butterfly dreams and has infinite eligibility.  Try not to throw to him too often."  It got a laugh, but it also got me to thinking how much MGoBlog infiltrates my everyday venacular - aside from consuming endless amounts of time which my wife and boss absolutely love.  Hell, I'm actually at my customer's office typing this.  HALOL.

We also have the running backs apparatus we use to teach ball security.  When it's time for that part of the practice, I direct the skill guys to "head over to the dong forest."

I've also coached girls softball and take a much different approach than I do the boys on the football field.  When my right fielder heaves a ball to the first basemen, despite repeated instricutions NOT to, I put on my pouty face, stick out my lower lip, and wait for the the other girls to yell, "SAD PANDA!"

Am I the only simple mind who is so easily influenced by so many things from here?

Sad Panda is probably ok to use in public, since it's from South Park and therefore has much greater exposure, but tacopants is much more obscure. Next time try using Henri, the otter of ennui. You're sure to alienate and bring much cajoling and shame upon yourself.

Also, one time at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, I blurted out, "I don't have enough points to start a new discussion, but I heard that my name is Magnus and I'm an alcoholic."

I find myself using the (!) in emails every so often.  Probably not specifically from mgoblog, but I associate it with Brian's writing.  I've seen others that frequent the blog use it outside as well.

I have a folder on my desktop called "Charts!" where I put downloaded and cropped charts and data from Bloomberg before it goes into presentations...

I watched a live recruit commitment on my first date with a girl at Olive Garden. Went on MGoBlog for 2 seconds saw that Arnett was committing and clicked on the link and watched the thing through my phone. Disappointed he chose Tennessee and said a loud "way to choose an SEC team that can't win" and she looked at me and let me tell ya that was a fun night. ;-)

Like most deities, His origin is probably disputed.  I know they have been dealing with Angry Iowa Running Back Hating God for several seasons, but I was under the impression it was an MGoThing.

Hell, they may all derive from Orson's Angry Old Testament God...

I'm a new poster but have been reading for quite some time, and yes, MGoBlog memes have infiltrated my life.  My dad and several of my good friends are avid readers as well, and we all reference many of the memes in conversation.  It has even hit the point where we discuss occurences on the board, like "did you see (insert user here) got neg-banged today?"

I have used many of those mentioned above, in addition I have used OMG! SHIRTLESS! to describe someone's unnecessarily shirtless facebook profile...

Much like the rest of you, I get crickets

The last time I came up to campus I kept moderating my friend's comments.  I kept track mentally and was like, "Wow, Christine made three insightful remarks this weekend.  Much cred to her".  Stupid statements all got a YouSuck motion and a flamebait label, as well.

and we can't stop trolling each other IRL, either

I also have dropped a "+1" here and there, usually on facebook posts.  The only other one I can recall using is "Nefarious Eduardo" from the recruiting board.  Actually, I don't know that's I've actually used it--I just find it curiously hilarious and have made up my mind to use it whenever I get a chance.  So, +1 to whoever came up with Nefarious Eduardo.

I also use the term Nefarious Eduardo whenever I can, and in various contexts.  None of my friends know exactly what I mean by it, but I usually use it to describe someone who's being a buzzkill, party pooper, and just generally disappointing me.

For example, "Yeah, Dan had to leave early.  He was acting like a real Nefarious Eduardo."

I know this example and the ways I generally use the term don't match up with the dictionary definition or recruiting board definition, but I just find it too funny of a phrase to let go by the wayside.  It's also great because sometimes people act like they understand what I mean by it, as if it was a pop culture or historical reference.
