WAY OT: any mgofans that live near a Alamo Drafthouse, may help with the off season

Submitted by no joke its hoke on

Obviously this has nothing to do with Michigan sports but i thought is may help with the boring off season. If you live near a Alamo Drafthouse movie theater they are having a "Summer of 1983" movie lineup. They are showing classics such as The Deadly Spawn, Risky Business, War Games, National Lampoons Vacation, The Killing of Satan, Jaws 3-D, Octopussy, Screwballs, Trading Places and Scarface. And for one night only Return of the Jedi.

Mods feel free to delete but i thought this may give some fans something fun to do this summer for cheap, or for anyone that just enjoys great classic movies.

Alamo drafthouse is the name of a movie theater? That's totally misleading. But, alas, I must get back to work here at Sonoran Cabinetworks.... Never a slow time in our oncology lab.

I strongly urge you to go to one if you ever get the chance. the only bad thing is you will never want to go back to a "regular" theater again. They serve beer and pretty good food right to your seats, and have events set up for most of their movies. They are mostly in Texas but they havespread out to Michiga, D.C.' NY and many other places.

No locations in Arizona, so I'm out.  Fortunately I live fairly close to an AMC's new "Dine-In" concept which sounds pretty similar, minus the special events.  On-call waitress service to the seats, full-bar, good menu, etc.  But the best part:  fully reclining, wide leather "beds" in the "Cinema Suites".  I refuse to see movies unless they are in the Cinema Suites.

What makes the Alamo awesome isn't just the booze. There's definitely a personality to the theater, and their specialty programming (this might only apply to Austin locations) has always been great and varied and strange. I think there's a serious passion and deep-seeded weirdness to the Alamo that is very palpable that makes it more enjoyable than most other theaters.

But yes, serving booze is also awesome.

Holy shit man this is awesome, just found out there's one not too far from me in Richardson. Never even heard of these theaters til now, I usually go to Studio Movie Grill or Movie Tavern which are exactly the same with bringing booze/food to your seats (surprisingly good too)..but they do not have this lineup of awesome movies. Good look.

I live near multiple locations and it's always the first choice for movies at the theater.  Great food & beer selections, plus great special events like the one mentioned above.  My favorite was showing Jaws on the lake and having the viewers in inner tubes.  Then they hired divers to mess with the viewers during the movie.

Man was that a good time.  I also saw Earthquake! in the Natural Caverns, went to the Deliverance sleepover in the woods, saw Big Lebowski in a bowling alley, etc.

There is no better place to watch -- and experience -- a movie than at the Alamo Drafthouse.  The owner is friends with Quentin Tarantino and he used to come by to preview his movies there and hang out for hours.  Same with Robert Rodriquez.

I really miss living in Austin...

We are getting one in Kalamazoo, MI at some point this year. I have heard great things about Alamo Drafthouse. Can't wait.

First heard of Alamo Drafthouse when this pre-movie PSA (NSFW-language) they do made some waves online. Still looking forward to attending a movie at one of their theaters first chance I get.

They show these movies once in awhile all over town, down by the beach the Rocky Horror Picture Show plays every Fri and Sat at Midnight and down in LA you can catch old movies all the time. I think Scarface has been at the cineramadome for the past 10 years.....

I love Alamo Drafthouse. Awesome place to catch a movie. I'm lucky enough to have 2 nearby. A great selection of beers, fun movie events (quote-a-longs, etc) and best of all no kids under 6 allowed and a strict no talking/texting policy.

Word is they're opening one in Michigan too. Kalamasomethingorother.

I take some umbridge with the characterization of Jaws 3D as "great' and "classic".  Otherwise, this sounds like a lot of fun.  Wish one of these places was located in SE Michigan.
