Well it looks like Anchorman 2 could be happening.

First Steve Carell tweeted this:

Watch Conan tonight. You will be glad that you did.

Then Conan tweeted this:

Conan O'Brien ‏ @ConanOBrien

Ron Burgundy makes an incredible announcement on my show tonight.

Part of me wants a sequel, because I love the original, but at the same time I really wish Hollywood wouldn't do so many.  I worry that it will be a lot of rehashing the original and kind hinder the original's uniqueness and what made it so good.  I have mixed feelings on this if it happens.

I know when I first seen the tweets I was super excited, now thinking about it, its probably not going to be as funny. Then again it can't be any more  terrible than the crap they are putting out now I mean "The 3 stooges" looks like garbage I hope that film crashes and burns.

Holy shit, an Anchorman 2 would be amazing. They could parody modern news networks (not naming names) just like they did older ones in #1. There would be tons of material, so long as they don't push it too hard it would be a fantastic movie.

Someone needs to come up with something new. TV=court drama, cop drama, hospital drama, occupation filming. Movies=sequels, comic book movies and Adam Sandler.

When I moved to San Diego, I can't tell you how many of my friends congratulated me on moving to the Whale's Vagina.  That either says a lot about the popularity of Anchorman, or perhaps it says a lot about the maturity of my friends.

I opened this thread thinking it was titled 'Way OT - Aquaman 2' with appraisals for RDT.

Nonetheless, Ferrell's invovlement with the film's production will satisfy me in itself.  He's stated that his favorite comedy (of the millions) he's made is Anchorman, which leads me to believe he will not let a sequel disappoint.  He's too good for that.  Ron Burgundy is too good for that.

The genius of Will Ferrell is that he hasn't resorted to sequels or otherwise over-extending his characters.  In fact, he often isn't even the featured star.  His characters are strong and in small doses they are brillant too.

Just compare it to something like Austion Powers/Mike Myers.  The first movie was awesome but the rest were total shit money grabs.  Although Myers is (debatably) just as funny as Ferrell, he's overplayed his hand and doesn't inspire anywhere near the same loyalty in fans as Ferrell does.

I guess that Anchorman 2 is just another sign of the times and indicates how desperate Hollywood is in the financial crunch.

I actually liked Austin Powers 2 more than 1. But maybe because I find Dr. Evil way more funny than Austin Powers.  3 was as stretch though.

Meyers didn't overextend himself, he just made some unfunny movies...Love Guru...and stopped making movies for himself, getting divorced and all that.  Ferrell is just trying to go back to a successful well before he goes down the same path...Land of the Lost...

Just simply throwing a few debatable thoughts out here...

But Old School is in a class of it's own (again, in my humble opinion).  It's a great movie in so many ways, mostly comedically, but all-around great script, cast, directing, etc.  It's more than just a bunch of laugh-out-loud lines and cheesey scenes (like Anchorman is imo).  There are some of those, but even the nude-streaking scene isn't just a raunchy lol scene, there's so much there and the scripting/improvising done by Wil Ferrell is great.  Luke Wilson and Vince Vaughn are awesome as well.  Imo, this is where/how Will Ferrell shines as an actor; not playing a starring or "lead" role but more of a "supportive" role.  Still getting as much screen time as the leads but NOT necesarrily the main guy.  Perfect example is the role as Chaz in "Wedding Crashers".  I would place that movie on the level of Old School.

Step Brothers, Elf, The Other Guys and Anchorman are in the next tier.  Pretty good movies overall.  They try too hard at times to be funny and shocking, but damn there are some great scenes and lines (Step Brothers especially).  I haven't seen "Everything Must Go" so I can't place it.  Stranger than Fiction is in a third tier; different role for Will and a decent movie, nothing great.  Then, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory and Semi-Pro = Not very good movies.  I didn't find them very funny (minus a few scenes from Talladega Nights, but overall it tries to hard and is too "lol, this is shocking funny stuff" for my taste).

I know I'm probably a horrible movie critic to many of you.  Just throwing out a few of my opinions on the funny guy Will Ferrell and his movie selections.

I am not going to argue with you. These are all opinions that you, and the fellow above you, are entitled to.

In terms of acting and plot, Stranger Than Fiction is by far WIll's best movie. It is funny at times but more of a serious role for Will. The plot is much deeper than any of his other movies and speaks to something greater than us. I know we are not supposed to talk religion on the blog, but as a recent seminary graduate, I cannot help but take notice of the theological issues that Stranger than Fiction makes light of. These are all thoughts for a later day, but you are entitled to your opinion and you are not wrong in any way.

Stranger Than Fiction, I did not give enough credit.  I personally didn't love the "movie" (plot, story, all those concepts), but again, that doesn't mean I don't respect it and respect the job Will actually did in the movie.  It showed he can do more than just the "things" I mentioned above; much deeper role and he nailed it (pretty well done).  I was pretty rash and whizzed through writing what I did above so I didn't elaborate very much and kept things pretty vague i.e. not explaining my stance on Stranger than Fiction and not saying that I though parts of Semi-Pro were pretty damn funny.

It is all opinion, mine, and mine alone and I don't wish to force my views on anyone else (not claiming anyone thinks I am).  I really do hold Old School in high regard; like that movie is on, like, the level of Academy Awards, for comedy (I'm totally serial about that).  Everything else gets compared to Old School and I've seen few movies/comedies that compare.  That was going to be my initial point!  I of course got carried away into a bunch of other different themes/viewpoints.

The Tropics...in Flint, like total wtf.

A one-hit wonder who spends  all his money on a second rate basketball team that he lords over like a king but who is at the same time so obviously lacking in self-confidence that he can't even get laid by his own sexy wife.

The old school b-ball nicknames like "Coffee Black"

Flint Michigan Mega Bowl!!!

"Where are you precious?"

Seriously, anybody who was alive in Michigan during the 1970s/early 80s, how can you not love that movie?  The characters, the cars, the bars...it's all so familiar.

PS...Blades of glory is also a total riot...but maybe you have to be an ice skating fan to really appreciate it.

I seen't Will Ferrell in Everything Must Go. He looked bombed-out and depleted. Sort of like what I would say about Afghanistan. Then I seen't Will as Ron Burgundy on Conan and all I can say is wow, that's a shit ton of make up.

I look forward to Anchorman 2, however!

As somebody who actually works at a local news station in San Diego, well, here come a new round of jokes for us to roll out at the afternoon editorial meeting.

Great post.  Question:  Do you all have a dispenser filled with Black Panther cologne there at the office or is the responsibility of the anchorman to bring his own?  Just curious . . .
