The way different sites bring UM news

Submitted by MichiganMan_24_ on

Counting down for the season to start so we can discuss real football but i need to vent for a moment and i ask  to see if anybody has noticed or if its just me..First, I go to many places UM related to get different views and info..Have LOVED this place since i first took a look..The members make it great, It hasnt changed much and that is fine because it doesnt need to,It covers UM from all angles and its to me the 1st choice for UM talk.

247 keeps up with recruiting well, TTB Magnus does a good job and i appreciate that site also, Maize and Brew i have just come around to recently but i like them as well.

The thing with all i have mentioned is they keep it positive and still remain realistic with UM sports..I would recommend any of these sites for a person who enjoys UM discussion.

NOW to the place i just cant stand..I do Bleacher Report for it is a easy way to keep up with ALL things sports not just UM..I peak at OSU,MSU( both always rainbows and butterflies),Yankees,Orlando Magic (ok, i dont ever look at the Magic page) and they are always about that team and whats going on.

However if you look at the UM section it is just PURE negativity and i dont like the "Hater" thing and it gets thrown around too loose but they just hate on UM.

Let me use examples..Its once a week they make articles about Is Hoke On The Hot Seat ? (hey look they JUST wrote a new one) And they LOVE this so called QB controversey and "Michigan not recruiting as well" and tht is passed off as UM class ranking have dropped off..No shit dirtbag !! maybe its because of the small classes they have brought in to respect the numbers rule but no that is NOT mentioned..they push readers to believe its just Hoke not recruiting well...These BR writers just made an article that Funchess is not worthy of being a Biletnekoff contender...i feel the hate is real over there, please if you havnt been there dont give them the click but if you have do you feel the same ?

Sorry for the offseason post..i promise the season is close

Bleacher Report sucks. They have always stirred up controversy for clicks, which is okay sometimes if you mix it in with actual news. ESPN does this sometimes, too, but I usually just ignore the pot stirrers there.

Anyway, thanks for the mention.

Did you expect to get something substantive out of Bleacher Report?  There's a reason people get banned for posting Bleacher Report articles here.  They have a handful of decent writers because they overpaid the shit out of them, but the site still fucking sucks.

If an article on the OSU site is about freshman its "Incoming studs who will take B10 by storm" if its on the UM site its "Incoming freshman who have to prove themselves"

It has turned me off and i think the UM writers are garbage..count me out

i guess the question is do they also do the same to other conferences. that is do they always favor the top two or so teams in every conference and dis the rest . this would indicate a bias in the editorial manner rather than specific hate of UM. i don't want to go look this up and give them clicks but perhaps others can chime in.

Bleacher Report also has a terrible habit (which not ll of their writers share, but it seems pervasive) of not giving proper credit to their sources when they do pull stuff from other sites. I believe they've taken information from MGoBlog once or twice and not properly credited the work, but it has been shown that they've stolen material from other sites. That's merely one of the reasons they are "site non grata" around here (with a rare exception - it has been allowed a few times under unusual circumstances).

Quite a while ago I would read Bleacher Report and I found it to be almost the Wikipedia of sports pages. Seriously, it seemed like any idiot could put something up there. I've been told it's better now, but I doubt it could have improved enough to be worth my time.

After the point system breaking on MGoBlog awhile back I am truly in awe of how hard it is to have great user generated content.  I acutally often read the comments on MGo before reading the main posts, now that the system is fixed.

Sites like  BR that have user submitted articles that follow click bait and SEO rules you get an unholy trinity of crap.

BR was brilliant.  They gave anyone with a keyboard a chance to write.  Then they made them all do top 10, top 25 and even top 50 posts, making users click from page to page to page.  This told Google that they were providing a high quality user experience.

Of course, BR pieces started showing up in the top two or three results on Google for a lot of keywords.  Then, they hooked up with CNN and started paying professional writers to fllesh out their content.

Most of their content sucks but they sure did figure out how to game Google, even in a world of Pandas, Penguins, and every other animal Google has unleashed on webmasters.

There's a reason this blog has a pretty strong distaste for BR and using it as any type of "source".  It's absolute crap, designed to generate traffic and little else.  Sure, there are a couple of good reads there with some of the "national" writers, but for the most part it they are board topics that get stretched into 400 words, 100 of which are original.

My first exposure to Bleacher Report was in 2010 when a "UM Expert" broke down what he expected to be the depth chart for the upcoming season. He lost me when he suggested Karl Tech would be a starting linebacker. Now, I struggle to believe that most of you even know who Karl Tech is- I certainly didn't until I read that article- it's because he was a walk on. With 0 career tackles.

If michigan goes 13-1 and wins the rose bowl, their tune will change. News media is fickle. Just look at the redskins "controversy." Nobody said a peep until this year. Now there is righteous indignation everywhere.
